Wow @rocketear99 that’s incredible! Great job on your mini Dopey! you are so beyond ready!
December 23, 2019 at 12:11 pm #122224Paging starbee… pity party for 1…
I haven’t run for a week. After Sunday’s 17 miler I didn’t feel right on Monday. My throat was dry and I was coughing which I figured was because of all the cold air the day before. Tuesday I tried to run but was still too sore and couldn’t make it a quarter mile. Wednesday the sore throat was worse and so was my cough. I also had a headache, probably from all the coughing. Thursday I was super stuffy on top of everything else, so I skipped my run. Friday I had headaches and pressure in my face, a cough, and a sore throat. Saturday I really wanted to get out for a run but it all hit me like a train by the afternoon. Pretty sure I have a cold but it’s nasty. So much pressure and stuffiness I couldn’t breathe. All I wanted to do was sleep. So I went to bed early Saturday night and stayed in bed all of yesterday pretty much. I’m trying to look on the bright side that at least I’m getting sick BEFORE Dopey and not during, but I am SO mad that I started training more than 2 months head of schedule and I’ve still gotten behind hoping I can recover enough to do the mini Dopey I had planned for this week, although I’ll have to scale back that 23 miler to 20 since I couldn’t complete my 20 miler as planned yesterday.
December 23, 2019 at 3:40 pm #122242December 23, 2019 at 3:48 pm #122243@starbee Sorry you haven’t been feeling well When we finished our 17-miler (at a slower pace than you I might add), I felt pretty ready for Dopey and that any further distance milestone would be a bonus in boosting my confidence. That’s pretty much what it has been. Don’t get me wrong, the 20 and 24 milers we did showed me our joint and muscular endurance had improved since we weren’t experience noticeable pain until mile 14 and 17 respectively. But in both cases I felt I could go the full marathon if I really needed to.
At this point we should all take good care of ourselves as we train. If we get sick, catch a cold, or are having muscular/joint issues, we need to let ourselves recover as fully as possible. We’re kind of past the point of having an adequate recovery window if something new comes up. Christy and I are taking it easy and being careful not to overdo our endurance thresholds and find our footing (making sure we don’t fall). We want to be as close to 100% as possible going into Dopey. So please don’t press yourself too hard despite falling behind and you should be just fine when we get to Disney
December 24, 2019 at 10:57 am #122264@rocketear99 Thanks pal. Today is the best I’ve felt in probably close to a week but I’m still not back to normal. My nose is still stuffed and I have pressure in my face. I think you’re right. I feel like with 17 miles under my belt, after that it’s mostly mental and with the atmosphere of the runDisney race, I bet I could push for 26.2 miles. Especially with my corral E cushion I could probably walk some of those last 9.2 miles if I had to. But I would appreciate the confidence boost of going further than that beforehand and like you said, the muscle training that gives you is helpful too. You’re right, we do need to be especially careful at this point. I will try not to go too hard. Finding that balance between making excuses and being careful has always been a challenge for me! The weather has just gotten beautiful too! The high for today and tomorrow should be mid-60s!
December 24, 2019 at 11:23 am #122271@starbee I’m so glad you’re on the mend! Hopefully you’ll be fully back in another day or so! I know for a fact you will be just fine, you could easily walk the last part and be just fine. You will have miles of cushion before the balloon ladies even start since you’re in E! And like I said, just be in that first mini-wave and that’s even more cushion! Feel all better soon!
December 24, 2019 at 12:01 pm #122275@starbee So glad you’re feeling better! The weather is nice here too (for December). It’s not as nice as the 60s, but it’s as nice as the 50s! Great running weather!
December 24, 2019 at 12:43 pm #122277@nascfan Thank you!
@rocketear99 Thanks! Glad you’re also getting nicer weather! I know right, I want to go run soooo bad! But I’ll just walk the dogs instead. That helps for training right?December 24, 2019 at 2:11 pm #122285@starbee Oh every little bit helps!

Way to go on signing up for the half! You’ve got this. You are still in good enough shape and have enough time to successfully train. Be careful though! Don’t get hurt!

We went for a paced workout while visiting family for Christmas Eve in New Jersey. It was a wonderfully warm day at 53* and sunny! Great day for a run through the pine barrens! We ran for 0:30:00, a distance of 2.43 miles, for a pace of 12’21″/mile.

We went for our second paced workout of the week at the park close to home. Another lovely 50* day! Afterward we stopped to look out over the river as the sun was on its way down the horizon. We ran for 0:30:00, a distance of 2.62 miles, for a pace of 11’29″/mile (our fastest pace in a long time)!
