Saturday 28 December
We went for our final 6.0 mile run before Dopey Again, PERFECT running weather at 57* and sunny. It actually got up to 60* before we started This is not normal for December around here, but we were loving every minute of it! Even going up and down hills (some pretty steep), we finished in 1:12:29 for a pace of 12’05″/mile!
Full stats: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4376658255Only 3 paced workouts and 1 distance run to go before Dopey!
December 28, 2019 at 8:59 pm #122377Super job @rocketear99 and Christy! You guys did awesome with all of these! Faster, stronger, better! You’re going to rock it!

We completed a paced run at the local park. It was wet. It was chilly. It was miserable and even though it was a timed run, we ran faster as if doing so would finish the run sooner It’s not an experience I’d care to repeat, but we did very well! 0:30:00 time, 2.67 miles, 11’13” pace That was our fastest pace since early August!

Happy New Year to us! We went for a run! We went back to the park for a sunny day, but a little brisk. We ran 0:30:00 and 2.60 miles for a pace of 11’32″/mile.
Full stats: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4389898801We have 1 distance run and 1 paced workout left before Dopey (weather permitting)!
January 2, 2020 at 11:12 am #122513@rocketear99 Way to stick with it right until the end! sometimes the cold nasty weather helps for that very reason even if it’s not a pleasant experience or at least that’s how it always seems to go for me. I pace so much better unintentionally because I have to keep moving out of necessity!
January 2, 2020 at 11:40 am #122515I started the New Year with a run yesterday! It had been 2 weeks since my last run due to being sick for a week and then having adverse weather last weekend. Severe storms plus a tornado siren prevented any running. I also had to have an endoscopy earlier this week because of the stomach issues I’ve been having. This has been a real struggle for me because I truly wanted to finish my Dopey training and haven’t been able to. It’s gotten me pretty down about the whole thing instead of excited. It’s not that I don’t think I’ll finish, I’m just worried about it being a struggle because I don’t have the confidence boost of the required training.
Thanks to the day off I was able to run in daylight at the trail yesterday with Leia who was begging to get out of the house! the weather was a tease with 60* but 20 mph winds that brought the “feels like” temperature down to just 48*! It was pretty chilly!
Time: 44:47
Distance: 4.00 miles
Pace: 11’10”The first mile was kinda rough after the unexpected break, but it got easier. I was a little stiff afterwards because of the cold and the lack of running but overall it went well.
January 2, 2020 at 11:55 am #122516So, I did it. I registered for 2,020 miles in 2020 on runtheedge.com.
In an effort to start the year off “right”, I decided to run/walk 10k yesterday. Since I’ve only been doing 5k up to now (my longest run these past months was only 3.5miles) I didn’t want to kill myself to get the extra mileage, so I walked most of it. I traded my 30/30 interval for a 30/90 interval so that I would essentially be walking all of the added distance. The whole thing took 1 hour and 32 minutes and it really felt pretty good. I think I’ll do the same distance on Saturday but maybe decrease the walking interval just a little bit; like maybe 30/75 or 30/80. I really want to get these miles in but I really, REALLY don’t want to injure myself by doing too much too soon.
Now I’ve just gotta figure out how to get all the miles in on a regular work day… We do have treadmills here at the office but I can only walk so far in the 30 minutes that my company allows/encourages for daily workouts.
January 2, 2020 at 12:00 pm #122517I just updated the race spreadsheet (in the first post of this thread) with a new tab for 2020 if anyone would like to add their upcoming races.
January 2, 2020 at 12:26 pm #122520@connie96 Wow way to start! yes definitely don’t injure yourself by doing too much too soon! Sounds like you’ve got a good plan going so far thanks for updating the spreadsheet! I forgot about that!
January 2, 2020 at 12:30 pm #122522@rocketear99 wow you two! That is fantastic! You are in the best possible place before Dopey, you guys are going to crush it! Awesome job!
@starbee you haven’t lost any speed that’s for sure! You have such a great pace, you’ll be just fine, meeting with characters, slowing it down so you remain fresh, you’re going to do so great!
@connie96 awesome job! You did so great going that extra distance! I tried several times over break to sign up at that site but never could figure it out. I could never get to a screen to register, just a log in.January 2, 2020 at 1:04 pm #122523@nascfan Try this link. https://www.runtheedge.com/pages/run-the-year-2020 There should be a big “sign me up” button right in the middle of the screen.
January 2, 2020 at 1:10 pm #122524@connie96 that’s what I got the other day too, and it brought me to a storefront. I didn’t want to purchase anything, I just wanted to be able to log miles to help you reach the goal.
January 2, 2020 at 1:13 pm #122525@nascfan, I see. Yeah, it’s kinda like a race with a registration fee. In order to use the tracker, you have to pay the money and register. That’s okay. At this point I really do want to try and make the full 2,020 on my own anyway. It’ll be a stretch but, I’m gonna aim for it!
January 2, 2020 at 1:17 pm #122526@connie96 ok gotcha! That explains why I was so confused. I will be cheering you the whole way! Shoot for the stars, you can do this!
January 4, 2020 at 1:35 pm #122603@starbee Glad you got in a solid 4-mile run the other day. I can understand you being worried, and I would be struggling with that too if we hadn’t gotten in so much of our training. What makes me excited is knowing that not only do I have people cheering me on from home, but I have support in the runs/at the runs too! It may be tough on the long distances, but we’ll be cheering each other on too!
@connie96 Sounds like a fun challenge! Wishing you all the best in sticking with it! You’re already off to a great start!
