I promise to text you next time I’m stopping for a line! Hey, maybe I was going potty! Did you think of that possibility!?!: LOL I have no clue why I didn’t think to text you!

Nope, didn’t even consider that! LOL Oh, good times!

@nascfan Now you know to keep that as a possibility! Old lady bladder and runner potty issues do happen! LOL Good times indeed!

@eeyorepoohfan Thanks! Yeah I’m planning on doing a mock Dopey but with slightly shorter distances. I want to do that to train for the consecutive run days but also to figure out my ratios. I don’t want to get too used to a much slower pace for the first three races and then be too slow during the full. If that makes sense? Not to say that I’m trying to be super speedy because I’m not, but I think I want to get progressively slower each race and if I’m already going super slow, I’ll end up slowing down too much. But we’ll see what my health and the weather allows!

@starbee I will be cheering you on for your mock Dopey! Just set your pace for what feels good each day. My recommendation is just to not go out too hot or push too fast on the shorter runs just because it’s a short run. You don’t want to fatigue your muscles too much. You will find the right balance! I promise! I did get progressively slower with each race. At Dopey I paced a 13min/mile for the 5k, a 13:17min/mile for the 10k, a 14:33min/mile for the half, and a 15:22min/mile for the full! I honestly felt amazing when I finished! My pacing at the full pretty much bounced between a 14-16min/mile for much of the race.

@eeyorepoohfan Thank you! :) Hopefully I won’t be sick and I’ll actually be able to do it. Getting nervous now. Yes I do have to watch myself because I get caught up in the adrenaline of a race sometimes and go too fast but I plan on taking everything easy and getting slower like you did. I also plan on going to the parks after each race because I’ve read so many books, blog posts and training plans that say that’s the best thing for you.

@starbee No sickies allowed!!! :minnie: My suggestion is just to start near the side of the corral so you don’t feel pressure to pace a certain way! Helpful tips are walk breaks should be to the side of the road and running in the center. Unfortunately not everyone follows thus but most do! Raise your hand and look behind you before pulling to the side and walking. It alerts others. I also recommend staying to the side because that’s where the photopass people are! So you should get more running pics if you stay towards the side. Yep! Walking is absolutely crucial after each race! Be mindful of your feet though so you aren’t riss as king blistering or tiring them from walking too fast around the parks. Stretch while you are waiting in line too!

Running updates! Last week was my “mock” Dopey practice, so I had 4 consecutive days of activity! :surprised:

    Monday 16 December 2019
We were supposed to do a paced workout, but tons of rain and wintry mix type stuff made that impossible and risky to do in the dark after work :P

    Wednesday 18 December 2019
We got out on the home track for a nighttime paced workout. It was COLD and keeping my intervals was so hard to do because I’m a mouth breather and cold air + mouth breathing + ongoing sinus issues = lots of gagging. :P I had to sip water regularly to keep from gagging so much, but even that didn’t help at a couple of points. Still, we managed 2.37 miles in 0:30:00 for a pace of 12’41″/mile.

We completed a planned walk of 4.5 miles in 1:17:30 for a pace of 17’13″/mile. That was some pretty fast walking for us! But we were motivated by the cold. Didn’t want to be out there any longer than necessary…and the wind was blowing pretty good too!

I completed a planned walk of 11.0 miles. Christy did not join me, but that’s OK since she’s usually faster at walking and running than I am and outpaces me…We got married over 5 years ago and she’s been trying to get away from me ever since ;) LOL

Anywho, it took me 3:39:59 to complete it for a pace of 19’05″/mile. It was still below freezing, but not windy, and the terrain was more hilly than before, so I was much closer to my normal walking pace. I’m a hiker too, so 11 miles in a day isn’t too bad. It just took a lot of time!

    Saturday 21 December 2019

We embarked on our 24.0 mile training run on the MD/PA rail trail. It was 22* when we started and 44* when we finished :snow: Yup, the temperature doubled in the time it took us to complete the run! :surprised: We started out fine, but then around mile 3, the cold started to become demoralizing. As I sweated through my shirts, hat, and beard, it froze! :snow: Christy found it amusing that my beard was crystallizing. But the freezing sweat was quite discomforting. I wanted to stop, but didn’t say anything the Christy, so we pressed on. Around mile 10 I was getting noticeable soreness on my left foot, but it wasn’t worsening. Around mile 17 everything was getting sore (in all the right ways). With great discomfort we completed the run in 5:33:36 for a pace of 13’54″/mile. It was literally the most un-fun run I’ve ever dun….um, done, I mean. But it’s over and it gave us more than adequate confidence for Dopey :dopey: From here we will train, but we will coast through it.

Fantastic job @rocketear99! You guys did great, even moreso in those temps and conditions! It might be cold for the races at Dopey but I don’t think it will stand a chance of being 22! So proud of you guys, you will do wonderful in the Challenge!
