    Thanks!

Haven’t run in almost a week, thanks to weather and work. May have to break down and join a gym, at least to get me through til Spring.

I feel you. This time of year sucks so bad for running! I like to PT test in October because I’d rather train for that during the summer when I know I can get up early to beat the heat. Not much I can do about winter weather if I’m trying to train for an April PT test  alas, I am currently on the spring testing schedule. Ran yesterday but we’re having a snow/ice storm roll in tonight so that’s probably the only running I’ll get to do this week. I am a member of a gym but I don’t know if the roads will allow me to get over there

Running pals, I had an idea last night. Some of you may be familiar with Squirmy and Grubs on YouTube. I’ve seen a couple of their videos in the past but yesterday I came across their Laughing at my Nightmare 5k. The 5k raises money for supplies and adaptive equipment such as wheelchair accessible vehicles, vehicle adaptations, in-home lifts, adaptive technology, and more to people living with muscular dystrophy and promotes disability awareness and inclusion.

This is the 10th anniversary of the 5k and they’re trying to get 1,000 people to do it. It’s a virtual run/walk/roll that will take place whichever day you feel like from July 11-17. They are trying to get teams of 5 or more to participate and I thought – what about a D-Cot team?

Would anyone be interested in joining me for this? If so, I would set up a team and that would give us a custom sign up link for our team to register. Registration would be $40-$50 depending on if you want swag or not.

I figured I would start in the running thread but may move this to its own thread if there’s a lot of chatter. Let me know!

I’m very interested @starbee! Let me chat with Kathy tonight. She does certain wellness things, including 5k’s, throughout the year for a discount on her health insurance. The 5k’s do need to benefit something and this sounds like that would fit the bill. I have a feeling you’ll have two with us!

@nascfan I think so too! They are a 501(c)3 and there’s more info on their website if she needs it. That would be so exciting! :D

Awesome, it doesn’t have to be anything stringent like that, just needs to benefit a charity of some sort or a zoo like our Dart Frog Dash. Anything other than a race to profit the organizers so to speak. Heck, the runDisney counts because they have a charity attached to the races! It sounds great!

I might be interested @starbee … depending on if I need to go the charity route into Dopey or not. Can let you know after signups for Marathon Weekend pass

Update on my training. I have not been good this week. Our treadmill got moved out of what was designated as the gym at work to an open space just off the apparatus floor. No ventilation, treadmill on an uneven surface, and just a general feeling of discourse lead to one run at work… meanwhile I live on the ice planet of Hoth, so running outdoors has been dangerous at best.

With not running, and being stressed, my eating has slid. I don’t dare step on the scale. Just going to try to get back on the rails this week. Nobody said it would be easy. But, still plenty of time to get Dopey with my running.

Great work on trying to see the bright side! I feel your pain. I typically don’t live on Hoth but we had a winter storm last week and the ice just won’t give it up! tried to get out this morning after 2 days off (storm hit last Wednesday and I run every other day) but it was still too icy on the roads and sidewalks so I ended up with a 1 mile distance but it was mostly walking. Not really safe to run smack dab in the middle of the road at 5am…

Oh wow, I’m so sorry that it was made tougher on you! It’s hard enough in the winter but then to have your workout area moved to a lesser space, that hurts! Do what you can. You got this!

Right now I’m trying to decide between a gym membership and ice cleats for my shoes.

Pros and cons to each. And a difference in investment.

Today isn’t warming as fast as advertised and a light drizzle is coming down. The road looks pretty well glazed.
I may try to snag a day-pass to the gym just to squeeze in a workout while I weigh my options.
