So my plan to do a paced walk/run on Friday after work was canceled by scattered thunderstorms…so I did it this morning! I forgot how hard this was. I did a 5 min Warm-Up, 30 min paced walk/run, and a 10 min Cool-Down. Now to set foot on the road that goes by my house is to take your life into your own hands, but we live on 13 acres of land with a 1/2 mile path around the perimeter. Some of it’s forested, some is open field, some is up hill, some is down hill. None of it is paved, so it’s easy on the joints and harder on the muscles. When I finished the work-out portion, I had gone about 2.05 miles. So that makes about 14:38/mile pace. Not bad, but I’m glad I don’t have to do it again until Tuesday!

    Great job!

Sorry for the delay on posting. Work and life have been busy and exhausting. Our dog hasn’t been sleeping well at night, so we’ve had very interrupted sleep for a week. So it took everything just to function through work. I couldn’t seem to get the time to post on here much. So good news is that the pup slept pretty much through the night last night and I got nearly 7 hours of sleep!!!! It was glorious!!! We got in a quick 5k before work yesterday. It was humid for us, around 71* and 67% humidity. I paced an 11:32 min/mile. We then ran 5 miles today. It was again 71% but around 73% humidity. Our saving grace for today was that there was cloud cover for my first 4 miles so I just had to deal with the sun for one mile. I fought hard for my pace today. My goal is to always run my 5 miles in under an hour, putting me at a 12 min/mile pace. I fought and managed an 11:53 min/mile pace and finished in 59 minutes and 25 seconds!! I still had time to spare!!!! And what a beautiful day it turned out to be, we actually got rain not long after our run and it has been raining off and on all day! We are in such a drought, this is greatly welcomed! I don’t think we even got above 75* today!!!

Sorry you were derailed by storms yesterday, but way to go on getting out this morning!!! Safety first! You are so lucky to live on land!!!! That really helps! And that’s fantastic cross training while running! We run on a paved trail, but it has lots of hills and some really long pulls. So it works the body differently than just running flats. Way to go!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone, if you go to the running playlist thread there is a download link there which will let you download about 8 hrs of running music, as well as some iPhone and android Disney ringtones.

OK. So my plan was to drag my oldest out of bed this morning to join me for a run around the reservoir, but things just didn’t work out. So, I hit the treadmill instead. Did the run/walk thing for a mile and then put incline to 1.0 and almost ran the entire second mile. Total time to finish the 2 miles was 24:22. I’m really going to try to get out to run in the morning this week. I’m so curious to see how my time will change not getting pushed along by the treadmill. :D
Had some trouble still with my breathing pattern though. Just don’t have it down yet. I seem to want to exhale for more steps than I inhale! Trying the 3-2 pattern but it was more like 2-2 today….or even 2-3 at times. :surprised:
Hopefully I’ll get more comfortable so I can spend less time thinking about breathing and more time just letting my mind get lost in the run.

I’ve never monitored my breathing while I run. I just try to make my breathing as calm as possible and not to hyperventilate. If I feel short of breath I will breathe deeply and hold it for a few seconds.

I never used to but now that I’m “older” :smirk: I seem to struggle more with catching my breath. And I’m not even running long distance! LOL
