4 weeks from tomorrow is our Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon at Walt Disney World! Our training hasn’t gone as planned, but we got 9 HOT miles in. I was aiming for under 2 hours and squeaked in just under! It was 64* when we started at 74* when we finished. I guess we are prepping for the hot temps we usually have at this race! I had to walk a lot more on the second half because it was getting too hot. But we got it done! I tried out my Star Wars Abby Road Droid tank today! It seemed to work well!
March 24, 2018 at 3:37 pm #70793Nicely done @eeyorepoohfan!
And thanks for the encouragement! Today is a fresh start training. Though not officially entered, I have 4 races I am training for, with a possible 5th and/or metric century bike ride. Also trying a new app to track my runs, so I’m now on Strava. We’ll see how it goes.
March 24, 2018 at 8:46 pm #70802@RIDisneyPinGuy Thank you! Great job in having perspective races to train for! That really helps the motivation! Before we got our Garmins, Ryan used Strava for his bike rides and some runs. His Garmin now syncs it to his Strava account!
March 25, 2018 at 7:16 am #70812@eeyorepoohfan, four weeks from today now! You will be on the course after having received your pre-race hugs from us and cheers at the start! We shall either be back at Epcot or on our way there. Eeeeek!

March 25, 2018 at 10:53 am #70829I have to catch up on here again…
Got a couple more runs in since we last spoke
Upped my distance today and still feeling good baby! I’m taking your advice @starbee and giving these shoes a bit longer to break in. I tried tying them a bit tighter this morning. Ugh. Big mistake. Won’t do that again!2.5 miles

March 25, 2018 at 10:58 am #70830@missingWDW Great job upping your distance a bit! I’m sorry you tightened your shoes too much. It’s a fine balance for sure! Fantastic pace!!!
March 25, 2018 at 12:22 pm #70864Thanks @eeyorepoohfan. It’s still faster than I wanted to run. I went out with my phone in hand trying to keep an eye on my current pace in an effort to maintain a pace around 10:30/minute. But I was so focused on watching my phone that it was throwing my running off. My steps were off, my focus was off, I was just a mess! So I said to myself, screw this, it is what it is, and shoved my phone back up my sleeve.
I have no idea how to control my runs. I just go. If I’m not quite awake, and my legs are moving a bit slower, cool. If I’m out of the gates like a firecracker, cool. So I’ve relinquished myself to letting the day, my crappy eating habits the days before, my sleep patterns, or my body dictate my runs. It’s like, my feet hit the pavement and I just do as I’m told.
Just don’t ever want to be told, “Houston, we have a problem” EVER AGAIN!
May we all stay injury free!!!!!!!March 25, 2018 at 12:24 pm #70865What app is this you are using to track your runs?
I use Runkeeper on my phone. I don’t know what anyone else uses.
March 25, 2018 at 12:27 pm #70866@RIDisneyPinGuy glad to see you back again!
Here’s to staying healthy!
March 25, 2018 at 12:47 pm #70867@missingWDW That’s kind of how I run! Sometimes I go out too fast because that’s what my legs are doing! But then I slow down as my run gets longer. Other days I can’t seem to get moving! There’s nothing wrong with letting your body dictate your runs! It seems like you are all healed up, so there’s really no reason why you can’t go out and run your best. If any pain or discomfort starts, then slow down or walk. There are actually runners that recommend going out for a run techless sometimes. And just do what your body can that day! I use my pace as a guideline while running. I give myself the first couple of miles to warm up. I see what my pace is looking like and then set my goal for that run. For my run yesterday, it was so hot out that I couldn’t go any faster than I already was. But it was much slower than I usually do for that distance. But I’ve had other runs with ideal temps and I was running the fastest I’ve ran in 6+ months! But I really just listened to my body each run.

March 26, 2018 at 4:45 pm #70950@missingwdw Thanks. Fingers crossed!
@eeyorepoohfan If I like/can get used to Strava, it may push me to buying a Garmin. We’ll see.March 26, 2018 at 4:50 pm #70951@missingwdw oh my gosh, Sunday got so busy I didn’t see your run! Great job! That was fast, hope your legs are feeling ok. Awesome work!
March 27, 2018 at 9:24 am #70978Reluctantly got myself up and out this morning. My lack of enthusiasm had my body moving slow. I could feel I was taking my time and my stride was much shorter than usual, but I didn’t care. I ran my first mile at 11:08. Yep, that’s just about how I felt! My speed increased a bit over the next 1.5 miles, but I still took it easy. Never once felt out of breath, or tired, I just didn’t have any gusto.
Second run of the week complete!2.5 miles
