I think you have a great itinerary in place and while going back to family favorite restaurants and attractions is special, it is also great to try new things. You never know which first-time experience might become a new family favorite. In May of 2016 we tried Via Napoli in the Italy pavilion for the first time and we fell in love with it. It is our first ADR on the day we arrive for our upcoming trip.

    The plans, they are changing!

So this morning I got a PIN code from Disney and of course had to check it out. Still nothing available at Pop for my dates to get a discount. Boo. But let me go back for a minute, the original plan was to book a room and have my CM friend rebook it using his discount. Well, that did not work out so well as my trip is sandwiched between two big dance competitions held at WDW. Great.

So now I had my regular priced room booked and was a bit bummed my plan to get a discount wasn’t working out. Then Disney came out with the winter offer, 25% off room bookings, nothing there available either, probably because all of the dancers are booked at the value resorts and with the room renos going on they aren’t running on full capacity.

As I was checking the Disney site for different possibilities, and having chatted with my friend who lives locally, we decided to change our reservation using the 30% off offer and stay at Coronado Springs instead, we will also be staying with them on the night we get in and our last night to save a little bit, and this saves us 307.92 to be exact! So now we are at a moderate for 5 nights, excited!!

My CM friend will now see if he can do something with the new reservation.

I know nothing about Coronado other than what I saw posted by the Bucket Family when they stayed there and that it has a Southwest theming (and renos going on) so hopefully by February they will be done refurbing the rooms and we can stay in one of them!

It’s actually 25% not 30% off on Coronado, I guess not all resorts get the same discount!

That is so neat that you are able to upgrade and save money! How awesome!

So excited!! I just told my son Alex and he’s super excited as well! There’s a waterslide in the pool! It’s a big step up from the values we normally stay in. The fact I am shaving off two nights from the reservation makes it a better deal, my local friend Megan will be picking us up at MCO so we will go straight to Epcot, stay with them and then next morning be up bright and early and get on the road for Animal Kingdom rope drop.

They will take us to the airport on Saturday morning so we will probably enjoy an hour more of sleep since the ME would have picked us up at 5!

I’m jumping in kinda late here, but I just wanted to say congrats on the upgrade to Coronado!! It’s a great resort!! :) I’ve stayed there twice and really liked it. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, and the rooms are really nice. If you have any questions about the resort, I’d be happy to answer any that I can based on my stays there!

@laprana, thanks! I would love to get some tips on which area I should request, what the quick service is like etc. I know there is construction going on with the large building they are adding to the resort but that’s okay, we won’t be there much other than to sleep and hopefully swim if weather permits, the boys will love the slide!

@StupidJudy You bet! Coronado is made up of 3 areas – The Casitas, the Cabanas, and the Ranchos. The Casitas are closest to the main building, El Centro, where you check in and where the restaurants and gift shop are, but they are farthest from the pool. They are also closest to the convention center there, so if there is a convention going on, typically the people attending the convention and staying at Coronado are put in the Casitas. The Cabanas and the Ranchos are both about the same distance from the pool, but the Cabanas are closer to El Centro. Each section has its own bus stop, and there’s also a bus stop near El Centro. The Casitas are designed to look like an urban area, kind of like a little city. The Cabanas have a more tropical feel, decor, and landscaping to them while the Ranchos feel more like you’re in the desert with lots of rocks and cacti. Both times I stayed at Coronado, I was in the Ranchos. I really liked it there because it was kind of removed from the hustle and bustle of the main building, but still only a 5-10 minute walk to get there. I think I saw something a little while back that they now have an internal transportation system where they will shuttle guests on golf carts between El Centro and the room areas, but they didn’t have that when I was there so I’m not too sure on the specifics.

The Quick Service restaurant there is called Pepper Market and it’s big with lots of choices! It’s more like a food court, with different stations that have different types of food. It has breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There’s also a little grab and go type of place called Cafe Rix just off of the lobby. It has a coffee bar, some sandwiches and wraps, gelato, and desserts and pastries. And if you have the refillable mugs you can refill them there at a fountain soda/coffee/tea station.

I hope this helps a bit! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I am so excited I am having a hard time getting my work done!! So thrilled @acamm! I just printed out three different maps with the different sections, my room is standard, not preferred (unless my CM pal can somehow work his magic) so what section would that be? What is the difference in the type of rooms between Casitas or Cabanas?

@StupidJudy you are so welcome! I know what you mean…it’s hard to picture it all without looking at a map! When you do look at one, it does look really big and spread out. But I really didn’t find that it was that way when I stayed there! And it’s a really nice walk along the lake to get just about anywhere on the grounds. I found this on the All Ears website, just to give you an idea of how far apart the different areas are:

From El Centro moving clockwise around the lake to:
    Casitas 3 = .16 miles
    Casitas 4 = .24 miles
    Casitas 5 = .27 miles
    Ranchos = .46 miles

From El Centro to the Dig Site, via the bridge near the Cabanas = .35 miles

From El Centro moving counterclockwise around the lake to:
    Cabanas 9B = .16 miles
    Cabanas 9A/8B = .22 miles
    Cabanas 8A = .31 miles

@laprana, it does look huge! We will get lifts from our friends some nights so that will save us some steps. I think the bus stops will be nice when we get back from the parks, to leave in the morning we will probably walk to the front and explore at the same time.
