@rocketear99 Ouch! :( But way to go! That’s a serious character building run right there! of course your new shoes would be there! LOL scenery definitely helps. Half the battle is mental endurance. I hope you got that mimosa afterward ;) :icetea:

I don’t know why it’s so hard to me to keep up with this thread these days! Since my 13 miler a couple weeks ago, I have still been running. Last week did not as planned with the holiday. The weather has been super hot so I did not get 3 run days in last week. I ran on the 4th and completed my July 5K in the Marvel Virtual Running Shorts. After that I ended up with a migraine so I slacked and gave myself the rest of the week off :P

    July 4 – Iron Man 5K
I ran at the trail and didn’t take Leia. I started off strong but it got hot super quick! Still I was happy with my pace and time. It was nice to finally have a medal to reward myself with! It’s encouraged me to keep getting out there now that it’s hotter than Hades and I still have to keep up with my Dopey training.

    Time: 34:02
    Distance: 3.1 miles
    Pace: 10’57”

    As for running this week:

    Wednesday July 10
Neighborhood run with Leia. The heat this week has been insane! I pushed my run over to Wednesday because Monday we reached 110*. Even at 5am when I ran Wednesday it was already 86* and 90% humidity!

    Time: 45:38
    Distance: 4.00 miles
    Pace: 11’23”

    Friday July 12
Another neighborhood run. Thankfully I caught a break in the weather yesterday! The humidity was still nuts at 92% but the temperature was down to 67* at 5am which felt heavenly! Leia came with me again.

    Time: 33:14
    Distance: 3.00 miles
    Pace: 11’03”

    Saturday July 13
I woke up earlier than usual this morning which must have been because I had an early night. I always feel much more rested if I wake up naturally vs get woken up by my alarm. So I had no qualms in going out to run which I had planned anyway. Getting some more consecutive run day training in! I went out to the trail and it was 74* when I started. Not as bad as it could have been. Thankfully the earlier time meant the trail was 90% in the shade which helps a ton! Humidity was 70% so not as bad as it has been the majority of this week either. But by the time I got done it was 85*. I aimed to finish in under an hour and even with a bathroom break I made it! :)

    Time: 57:04
    Distance: 5.00 miles
    Pace: 11’24”

Wow, great job on that 5k on the 4th @starbee ! I’m so sorry for the migraine afterwards. You rocked that pace though!
You’re doing super with pacing in the horrible heat and humidity this summer too! This is the toughest stretch for training, heart of summer. Keep it up, you’re doing awesome!

@nascfan Thank you! I was pleased :) Yeah it sucked, it was my own fault. It was a caffeine withdrawal migraine because I left it so long before I drank any coffee that day. Thankfully after taking some Alleve and laying down for around an hour, I was better enough to still cook dinner and have our friends over for the holiday. Summer is tricky for sure, especially when you’re Dopey training!

I’m now one week shy of 4 months in to my Dopey training plan! :dopey: I can’t believe it! I’m upping my miles as I have been from the start, but now the training plan has started to include training on the consecutive run days too. Today called for a 15 mile run and if you’ve been following along, that’s on the heels of a 3 mile run Friday and a 5 mile run yesterday.

Today I actually did get up when my alarm went off at 5am :P after getting ready and driving to a new trail, I started running at 6:50am which was about 20 minutes later than I aimed for. The hills at the longer trail I was using by the highway were really starting to kill me. I had been using that trail because it’s a longer distance and close to home, but it is not scenic at all, it’s super hilly, and 100% exposed to the sun. Today I tried out a new trail equally close to home. I like this one a lot better and will continue to use it in the future!

It was 76* when I started and still 90% humidity (anyone noticing a summer theme here?) This trail was a lot flatter with only 2 or 3 hills in my whole 15 miles. I saw some neat new things on the way which kept my mind occupied. I also passed another runner wearing a runDisney shirt which made me smile, as well as a family of ducks. This trail was also about 60% shaded I would say which was awesome!

I tried to get my mind right today and told myself I had done great at getting up and getting out there and this new trail would be fun. I got a little worried when I realized I had forgotten to RockTape my IT band :( thankfully mile 1 and 2 came super quick and I couldn’t believe it. It felt like I’d been running for 5 minutes. Then suddenly I’d passed mile 5, 6 and 7. Mile 8, 9 and 10 didn’t come around quite as quickly but I wouldn’t say I hit the wall. Mile 11 and 12 came around super quick too. Mile 13-14 dragged but again I don’t feel like I hit the wall. I was enjoying the new trail and the shade was helping a lot! I guess I just felt I had run farther than I really had. At mile 14 I was fully exposed to the sun and started to get a little fed up just because I was so hot. I completely broke my ratios at that point but I kept going and hit mile 15!

When I got done it was 87* and felt every bit of it. But honestly I enjoyed running today! The scenery was great and it wasn’t super hot for the most part. The earlier start and getting my mind right helped so much. I was hoping to get done in under 3 hours but I didn’t. That’s okay. I made it, I didn’t struggle, now I know another great place to run, and I stuck to my ratios almost the entire time :)

    Time: 3:11:15
    Distance: 15.00 miles
    Pace: 12’44”

Next week I will be on orders and I don’t know how my running schedule will go. I may be able to push out a couple 4 mile runs per my training schedule after I get off, depending on the weather. But the plan calls for some longer runs Saturday and Sunday and I know for sure I won’t have time for that because I’ll be working. I plan on using a stationary bike instead on those run days so as not to regress too far. Anyone have any guidance on how to do that so it’s a good substitute for a run day?

@starbee you did absolutely terrific on your 15 miles! And your third day running too! This is great practice for those four straight days in January. And you know what? It’s going to be a WHOLE lot cooler then too! And most of those, especially the 5k and 10k and a large portion of the other two also will take place well before the sun comes up. So you’ll have that advantage. You just did so, so great though! Your pace is so low that you have a ton of time to give in the races without any problems whatsoever. You are going to shine! I’m so proud of you and how you are doing, 5+ months out! You are miles ahead! Just a great job!

    Hey guys!

Just a quick check in. I haven’t been running nearly as much as I should. With my older daughter in town, and being on vacation and then my aunts health declining quickly and passing away over the weekend-I just havent done much of anything :(
I did make sure that Saturday and Sunday I did my weights and sit ups and this morning I went on my morning walk at work. It’s supposed to be over 90 here today so I’m not sure how much running I’ll get in-and it depends what my mom needs me to do for her.

Sorry to be such a downer.:(

    Hope everyone is doing well!

@starbee Just read through all of your updates from Iron Man through the 15-miler. :surprised: It’s been ridiculously hot here too and it’s getting worse! I can’t believe it, but we can literally travel SOUTH for cooler weather. I’m so glad you’ve been able to beat the heat with all those runs and make great times with them too!!! That pace on your 15-miler was impressive, most impressive :vader:

    @nascfan
I hope it will be cooler! I’m definitely looking forward to the runs where the sun isn’t up yet ;) or maybe just barely up for my half. That will help so much! Unless it’s super cold like it was for Heather. Then I may be begging the sun to rise LOL

I can pretty much 100% guarantee it will be cooler! LOL I hope it won’t be freeze warnings like there were in 2018!
