July 3, 2019 at 1:25 pm #112999July 3, 2019 at 1:30 pm #113001So I am way behind in posting my runs – again!
Tuesday, June 25
Pretty humid run around the neighborhood
Time: 45:19
Distance: 4.00 miles
Pace: 11’19”Thursday, June 27
Captain Marvel 5K around the neighborhood
Time: 32:11
Distance: 3.1 miles
Pace: 10’22”Saturday, June 29
Another hot and humid run over at the trail
Time: 43:17
Distance: 4.00 miles
Pace: 10’48”July 3, 2019 at 1:40 pm #113003your pace is amazing @starbee ! Great job ! you are doing so good !! I hate when its so hot and humid out, I try not to run because I can feel my heartbeat in my head
July 3, 2019 at 1:46 pm #113004And now my Dopey training is ramping up and has moved on to the consecutive run portion of the training as well as upping the mileage after Saturday’s 4 mile run I went out Sunday for 13 miles.
I should have gotten up early, in fact my alarm did go off at 5am but we had a late night watching the new MIB the night before and I was tired and hit snooze repeatedly until I finally got up at 6:45am. By the time I had eaten breakfast, let the pups out to go potty, fed them breakfast, drank my Tailwind, gotten dressed, stretched, prepared my flipbelt ready to go and driven to the trail it was 8:15am and 80* already. That’s what I get for being lazy and sleeping in.
Everything started off well and then my earbuds died at mile 7 because I forgot to charge them The second half went super slow without music and it’s not a very scenic trail by the highway and there’s tons of hills! Plus there’s no shade and it was getting hotter. I pretty much abandoned my ratios at that point and made it up. I eventually ended up walking the last 1.5 miles because I was super hot and over it. By that time it was 88* with a heat index of 92*.
Time: 2:56:19
Distance: 13.00 miles
Pace: 13’33”I’m not discouraged at all though! Walking the last 1.5 miles really isn’t that bad and my pace and time were still within runDisney requirements which is all I care about. I felt like the heat affected me more than 2 consecutive days of running. I know I will have done more running before my half during the Dopey but if 4 miles before a half was tough, doing 3 miles, then 6, then 13 would be worrying at this stage if I was struggling with less than that, but I’m not so I’m feeling confident
Unfortunately I did miss a spot when applying sunscreen and I have two stripes of red sunburn on the backs of my knees between my knee and where my compression socks ended it’s been 3 days and it still hurts. But I have another week in the books!
July 3, 2019 at 3:21 pm #113006your pace is amazing! Great job ! you are doing so good !! I hate when its so hot and humid out, I try not to run because I can feel my heartbeat in my head
Thank you! I am using run/walk ratios right now per the Jeff Galloway runDisney training plan. I’m doing this in preparation for Dopey but also because I suffered from shin splints this time last year and I’m worried they’ll return if I push too hard. My regular pace when I run without walking is between 10’30” and 11’00” and that’s what I usually do when I’m not in Dopey training. I also hate the heat and humidity! I wish it could always be around 50* when I run when it’s hot I also feel my heartbeat in my head which is so weird I hate it! And I feel like I’m so hot I’ll spontaneously combust
July 3, 2019 at 4:00 pm #113007Wow @starbee you did amazing! Your 4 milers are SO fast! And your pace in that horribly hot 13 miler? Phenomenal! This gives you so much time cushion to be able to slow down and not get tired in the races. You impress me so much! I am so proud of you, you are going to be spectacular!
July 3, 2019 at 9:57 pm #113010@nascfan Thank you! I’m really only worried about the full right now. Not even because of the consecutive days of running, I’m just worried about the distance
July 3, 2019 at 10:03 pm #113011You’ll be good. You may walk more of the second half but you’ll be just fine. I’m sure of it!
July 8, 2019 at 12:24 pm #113100Whew what a weekend for us, Friday my daughter and I did a fun run (we walked all of it) it was a foam glow 5k and we had so much fun ! Saturday morning me and my kids did another 5k which was another fun foam one and we walked most of that one too, I felt guilty for walking them so Saturday evening I ran 3 miles
I rested Sunday although I did a walk in the evening for 2 miles. I’m debating on resting today too I don’t want to push myself too hard
July 8, 2019 at 1:09 pm #113103You did absolutely awesome @breesmommy5 ! The foam runs look like so much fun! Both my girls want to do one now!
July 8, 2019 at 4:11 pm #113116This is slightly old news now, but Christy and I completed another long-distance run of 11.0 miles on July 5th…the day that also happened to be our 5th Anniversary! I know…what a way to celebrate an anniversary by going for a long run in the nasty heat and humidity we’ve been having this month And even getting up early to do this run, it was still nasty hot and humid We did this one along the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal which made it scenic at least with small yachts and self-propelled barges going by to say nothing of the wildlife
While I’m happy to report I did not get sick like last time, I realized I needed my new running shoes 2 weeks prior as these were just shot and my new ones had not yet arrived to say nothing of breaking them in for a long run. My feet were on fire! This coupled with the unrelenting humidity and no wind really slowed me down…I tried hard to focus on anything but my feet and the long way ahead. I started gazing at plant life and saw a pretty pink-flowered mimosa tree and then realized I wanted one…not the tree, the drink
All-in-all, we did our best, but came out slow with a time of 2:31:37 and a pace of 13’47″/mile. When we got home, my new running shoes had arrived Figures! Here’s the full stats: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3816200898
For the record, I’m happy we’re still well under our Dopey Goal of 15’00″/mile, but I do want to get under 12’00” on the 1/2 Marathon in September for POT. I think it’s attainable but man this weather!
July 8, 2019 at 4:24 pm #113117One foot in front of the other in that heat and humidity @rocketear99 ! Combine that with your shoes and you actually did fantastic! The new ones should help you so much! Great job!
July 11, 2019 at 9:41 pm #113257Oh my goodness, what have I done? Not only did I sign up for the Night of the Dead Run in October but my wife, daughter, son-in-law, nephew, niece-in-law, and niece! it’s going to be a family time!
