    @bexruns walking a 5k would be an amazing accomplishment not even a month removed from surgery! You are doing awesome! Take your time, don’t push too hard, and you will be great! All the best!

    @eeyorepoohfan nice job getting up and out early! Hope you’re feeling stronger and back to your old self again soon! You’ve got some running history, and your body will remember that soon enough.

    @nascfan Thank you! Huh, all I’ve ever known is how we do VBS here so I thought that was across the board. Interesting to find out that’s not the case!

    @eeyorepoohfan
    Thank you so much! I will let y’all know tomorrow what the doctor says.

    @bexruns
    Thanks for checking in! I hope recovery is going well for you! You have every right to take it slow for that 5K and you should!

    @bexruns I’m so happy your recovery is going well! Keep resting and healing up! There’s nothing wrong with having to walk the 5k! That will be a good test to see how your recovery is going as well!

    @missingWDW Thank you! I’ve been running for 6 years now! But anytime I take a break, I swear it feels like day 1 all over again when I start back up! LOL The muscle memory eventually kicks back in…eventually! LOL

    @starbee
    @nascfan Around here most of the churches have VBS in the morning! But there’s usually a couple of churches that do them in the evenings. I would say 90% are morning VBS.

    That’s interesting ladies, I like to hear the different way different regions do things like that!

    Went to see the doctor this morning about my unrelenting calf pain. Shin splints were confirmed and she gave me a shot for the pain and prescribed me a steroid pack. I also have to take gastritis medicine again to preempt me getting that again because the shot is ibuprofen based. They took an x-ray but she said she’s thinking nothing will show up on there. With basic training looming she is sending me to an orthopedic doctor who will evaluate if I can go yet or not and may order an MRI to confirm there’s not a stress fracture. If there is, BMT will be a no go until that’s healed. She said she wasn’t sure how long I should take off running, that’s a question for the orthopedic doctor. She said to check that my shoes are still good (they are) and to stop switching my running surfaces and avoid concrete if possible. I’ll update again when I’ve heard from the orthopedic doctor. Not currently a happy camper :(

    Oh @starbee I’m so sorry your fears have been confirmed. I really hope there’s no stress fracture but I am glad at the same time that she is covering the bases by sending you to an orthopedic to make sure. Hopefully this will help get you back on the right track and recovering. My prayers are with you for a fast recovery and definitely no stress fracture.

    @nascfan Thank you. I’m so mad at myself for pushing so hard. I need to stop listening to other people. I know other people who run almost every day of the week and don’t get hurt so then I’m like “Why am I only running 3 days? I should probably do more” and now I’m hurt. Obviously the doc can’t tell me how I did it, but she said the faux pas that stands out to her are: back to back days and switching my running surfaces. Since I’ve been sprinting for a while she doesn’t think that’s a major factor, although it probably didn’t help. Hopefully the referral will come in soon. X-ray was clear but she said that was likely to happen. Can’t draw any solid conclusions without an MRI.

    @starbee sorry to hear and hope you heal up quickly!

    I embraced the suck, got up this morning with the intention of running a few miles. My ankles are killing me and my hips are sore (no idea), so I walked 3 miles instead. Went from there to the gym where I did Chest and Tri’s for 40 minutes. Had pain in my right rear delt, eventually I will have to get that looked at. After everyone else’s medical stuff is squared away. It’s at least on the list. Stupid body is trying to break down on me. I’ll show it whose boss.

    @10dedfish I’m so proud of you for getting it done! Your body is probably sore from all the stress and strain you’ve been under lately. Seriously, that takes a major toll on our bodies. You remain in my prayers.

    @starbee I’m so sorry about the shins splints! I hope those heal up quickly. Praying for no stress fracture!! It is always hard to know what advice to follow on training. Everyone is so different in what their bodies can handle. I know that I can’t seem to run more than 3-4 days a week without something getting angry with me. But my sister can run 6-7 days a week.

    @10dedfish
    I’m so sorry you are dealing with pains and issues. I’m glad you have your deltoid on the list to get checked. Sometimes our bodies need a break and unfortunately they usually tell us this in the form of pain/injury. Take care of yourself and allow a break if need be. But good job on getting a good 3 mile walk in and some weight work! Since you are having ankle and hip pain, have you checked your shoes? They may be worn out. Or looked into orthotics? That can help keep your body aligned and reduce the pain.

    @eeyorepoohfan Thank you! I’m seeing the ortho on Monday and we’ll see what she says about resting, training and an MRI. I need to heal soon because I got my orders yesterday. That’s a good point, everyone is different.

    @10dedfish
    Thank you! I need to heal soon so I can be fit to fight. I’ve stayed away from push ups, sit ups and all the yucky stuff I do at the gym too like squats and flutter kicks because I don’t want to make it worse and the doc said stop everything until I see the ortho. But I don’t like sitting around!

    Question for you runners:

    Has anyone ever had a sports massage to help with injury? My coworker recommended it to me, said when she had shin splints after her first half marathon, it really helped her. She said it hurt something fierce at the time, but definitely helped her heal. She said it did a lot more than physiotherapy and the stretches her doctor gave her. I’m seeing an orthopedic doctor on Monday, so I’ll see what she says about treatment, but I doubt she’ll be like “physiotherapy doesn’t really work” but that’s what I’ve heard from a couple people here and a couple of my running friends. Need an unbiased opinion. Also I don’t want to make my injury worse.
