Yesterday’s run went a lot better. I ran 3.1 miles in 34:11 which was an 11’00” pace. I had a quicker pace a couple weeks ago that declined over this past week or so for some reason so that was a bummer. But I couldn’t get past 2 miles on Tuesday so I was pleased to run a 5k yesterday. I had Leia with me too which slowed me down a little bit. She stopped for 2 potty breaks and then wrapped herself around a tree at one point trying to chase a squirrel temps were in the low 60s with little wind so that was great it wasn’t an easy run but it was definitely easier than my last two. That’s my final run before tomorrow’s 10k! wish me luck, I’m scared!
April 21, 2018 at 11:14 am #73912@starbee Wishing you lots of luck on today’s 10k!!! So glad your 5K yesterday went a lot better for you! I can related to having a dog slow you down
April 21, 2018 at 11:17 am #73913Yesterday Christy and I went for a 1-mile run. I did not succeed in running the whole mile without walking, but Christy did! Still, we finished at the same time and it was our best 1-mile time on our trail so far!!! 9:53!!! Sunday we plan on doing a paced workout to strengthen our endurance. Starting to look at when and where our next 5K will be
April 21, 2018 at 8:19 pm #73921@rocketear99 Thank you for the well wishes! Yes dogs are so funny sometimes! I like to take her with me because she loves to get out and she’s so ornery when she gets cooped up inside. But sometimes I think to myself “why did I bring you?” That is a really great time for both of you! Great job! That’s what would always kill me about running without walking – I always did better when I would walk! I don’t think my 1 mile time would be that good walking or running!
April 21, 2018 at 8:47 pm #73923I completed my first 10k race today! there was a time when I couldn’t run a mile and struggled with a 5k. Never did I think I would ever run a 10k but today I did! I was questioning when I signed up as soon as I got close to the race location. It was an hour and a half from where I live and the closer I got the darker it got until it was thunderstorming when I arrived. They said the race would continue even if it rained but a thunderstorm would cause a delay until conditions were safe. Well the thunderstorms stopped about 45 minutes before the start time, so the race began on time, but the rain continued – hard!
It was 46* and we were all soaked before we even started running while waiting at the starting line. I’m so glad I had a friend to run with because I probably wouldn’t have gone out in that weather otherwise he is a marathoner so we didn’t run side by side or anything, but it was still encouraging to have someone else there. We got started and I would say I had warmed up by the first mile, which came around quickly. I started with a 2 minute walk to warm up, then ran 3 miles, then took a 4 minute walk break, then ran another mile. After that I improvised and ran for a while before taking a short walk break again. I felt like I did a good amount of running. Around mile 5 I definitely went a little too fast and burnt out and had to walk a little longer. The final mile I noticed I was running for less time and taking more walk breaks, but I was fine with that because I have never run more than 3.5 miles with or without walking.
My goal was to finish in under 1 hour 15 and I did!!! my final time was 1:14:35! I was so pleased with myself! The rain didn’t bother me (aside from the few places I had to run through ankle deep water, that was NOT comfortable!) and I didn’t feel out of breath or fatigued which was so awesome! Leading up to the race I was concerned that maybe I wouldn’t finish. Unfortunately something went wrong with my bib because no stats were tracked for me I’m pretty bummed about that because my friend I ran with has some great stats on his run that I don’t have I have no idea what happened there.
Despite the terrible weather I am super glad I signed up for this race and I would definitely do a 10k again!

RIDisneyPinGuy182 XP@starbee congratulations on your accomplishment!
I never had a doubt you could do it! You have made so much progress, and hopefully this will build your confidence further. Great run!

April 27, 2018 at 9:51 am #74398@jloosh78 great job on your longer than expected run!
@rocketear99 awesome work by you and Christy! I’m so proud of you with your pacing coming down!
@starbee you need to stop listening to your “friend”. Everything they are telling you is wrong and putting negativity into your head. You do your pace and walk when you need to. The ups and downs will play havoc with you until you develop some consistency in your temps like Justin said.April 27, 2018 at 9:57 am #74399@starbee congrats on your 10k! You did awesome and I’m so happy for you that you met your goal! Now on to a runDisney 10k! 2020 Food and Wine with Heather, Kelly, and me! (and we just have to convince Kathy that she can also)

AnonymousXP@nascfan is COMPLETELY right on this! Listen to your body and everything else will take care of itself. Every day, every run, every step needs to just be what it is in the moment: sometimes you run, sometimes you walk, sometimes it’s slow, and sometimes it’s fast. It doesn’t matter. Being out and doing the exercise and enjoying yourself is the goal.
April 27, 2018 at 10:20 am #74401@yoda thank you my fine fellow! Yep, just being out there and getting any kind of workout/exercise/cardio is going to pay huge dividends in the long run. I saw that completely this past trip and the race. Just the lunch time rope drop walks and our sessions we’ve been doing, my legs never felt tired (even with the 36,000+ steps of last Friday) and the race was way easier than I thought it would be. It paid off more than I ever imagined.

bexruns374 XPHi everyone!
Sorry I’ve been MIA! I hope you’re all doing well and kicking some serious asphalt
@nascfan I have to echo @yoda said. I mean, you’ve said the same thing to me!I had a 5K last weekend which was the first race I’ve done in a while where I needed no walk break at all. My time was still higher than I would have liked HOWEVER I came in 17/170 and 4th in my age group. So I can’t be upset about that!
Yesterday I did a 5K trail run after work (not official, it was just me running alone on the trails that happened to be 3.1 miles ) and it was my 3rd fastest time on that route so THAT made me feel pretty great.
I have a 5K tomorrow morning, but they haven’t posted the route or anything so I have no idea what it will be like. Just go out and do my best!
