@bexruns I am SO proud of you! 4th in your age group?! And top 10% overall? Do you have any idea how incredible that is?! I’m not kidding, you are a total rockstar!
Goodness girl, you’re ready for the Olympics!
And thank you for thank you for those kind words! All the best for tomorrow, I’ll be cheering you on!
April 27, 2018 at 11:51 am #74418I haven’t been able to post here recently, but I did a paced workout on Sunday which was pretty good and I did a 1-mile run yesterday. Yesterday’s run, I walked for about 1 minute, 30 seconds and finished at 9:58.
April 27, 2018 at 1:11 pm #74420@starbee I am so stinking proud of you!!!!! You did a 10k!!!!! And in less than desirable conditions!!!! Your pace was amazing too! There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking those extra walk breaks. This was the farthest distance you had ever gone. I can’t even imagine running in ankle deep water! You may be able to contact the race group to see if they can try to get your stats and your official finish time. Sometimes they have magical ways of getting it figured out! Were there photographers on the course? They may be able to use that to get some times for you as well. I’m bummed you didn’t get official check ins on your bib. Did you use a run tracker for yourself to at least have it for your record? I have a feeling you will be signing up for another 10k and possibly a half marathon!!!!!!!

April 27, 2018 at 1:19 pm #74423Awesome job @rocketear99! That is a great paced workout!
April 27, 2018 at 1:53 pm #74425Life is starting to get back to normal after our WDW trip this week! I wanted to pop on here and give an update to my Star Wars Half Marathon I ran this past Sunday. I went into this very under trained. Our air quality did not allow for us to get out and run safely. We were pretty much stuck with only running 5k training runs. Our longest training run was 9 miles and that was well over a month before our race. So I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty. I was hoping that all of our training from Dopey would just carry me through. Well….it didn’t. I can honestly say that my race on Sunday was one of the worst races I’ve ever done. Not even just because my pace was horrific, but physically I was in pain. I have issues with my feet blistering walking around WDW. Usually, they don’t show up until the end of a trip. My toes naturally go under each other, so added days of walking creates friction, which creates blisters. Well, it was super hot and humid and I had blisters by our second day of the trip! They were already sore by Saturday and I was starting to hobble. Ryan and I could not sleep the night before the race. Neither of us were anxious and nothing was running through our minds, we just couldn’t sleep! So we got up at 2:15am with about an hour sleep. I had said that no matter what I would stop for a picture with Ewoks if they were out since I kicked myself after our last two Star Wars races and didn’t stop. Ryan texted me that they were at mile 2.25 (since he started a couple corrals before me he was going to give me a heads up). So I pulled off and had a 13+ minute wait for the Ewoks. But I was so glad I finally got my picture!! It was a hot race start at 71* and 87% humidity. I got a nice light sprinkle for about a mile after seeing the Ewoks. But once the rain broke, the humidity was back. I stopped for a quick potty stop in Pandora. So fun to run through there! But by mile 6-7 my feet really started hurting. I began running on my heels to take pressure off my toes. It felt like my blisters were going to burst. The problem is that this caused my feet and arches to drop (even with my orthotics in) and my feet were in agony. I got to the point where I could barely walk or run. But I kept moving forward. I brought my cooling cloth with and had it soaked with water by mile 4 to start cooling me down. This is pretty much the only thing that kept me from overheating. I was dizzy a few times on the course and just did my best to stay cool. I originally thought that I would finish in about 3 hours to 3 hours 15 minutes due to lack of training. Once I stopped for the Ewoks, I couldn’t get moving, plus with my feet in agony I just couldn’t move! I finished with my slowest ever finish time of 3 hours 45 minutes. 45 minutes slower than what I have ran on my worst previous race. I was bawling on the course from the pain. But I absolutely would not quit. I could barely walk back to the bus at the end. As soon as we got to our room, Ryan adjusted my feet. Apparently I dropped most of the bones down. I then took a nap for a good 45 minutes. I never ever ever sleep after a run! My blisters are still present but I’ve been living in flip flops at home to help them dry out and are finally doing better. I will never ever ever ever ever do a half marathon with that little of training again! Our next race will probably be Dark Side next April. So I will be spending the next year working on cross training and nutrition to drop weight. And then focus on proper training for that half marathon.
April 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm #74426AnonymousInactiveXPBlisters or any skin that has been rubbed raw is probably the worst thing that could happen in a race so despite everything else you should be very proud of yourself that you managed to work your way through it
April 27, 2018 at 4:01 pm #74427@yoda Thank you so much!! I’ve dealt with my share of knee and hip pain during races in the past. But never blisters! Holy cow those are painful to run on!
April 27, 2018 at 4:35 pm #74430@eeyorepoohfan I am SO sorry to read about the blistering on your feet. I cannot imagine how miserable you must have felt. Sounds, though, that you really tried to make the most of the experience and bring some good memories back home with you. No matter the race, no matter the pace…you are an inspiration and a source of encouragement to us all.
April 27, 2018 at 5:40 pm #74431@abeach Aw!! Thank you so much Andy!!!!! Dopey was easier on my body than this one half marathon was! So crazy! I did my best to enjoy all of the Disney atmosphere and the Star Wars Characters! But it was honestly agony. I feel honored that I inspire others!!
April 27, 2018 at 6:26 pm #74432@eeyorepoohfan you did awesome! I am filled with more admiration for you than you can ever imagine. It was so humid that day. I just am floored that you completed it with what was happening with your toes and feet. You have no quit in you. None at all. I know the pain you were in. I saw it. I seriously was ready to pick you up and carry you onto that bus when you almost went down. I would have done it too, without thinking twice. You completely earned your superstar status that day, many times over. I am, and forever remain, so incredibly proud of you!
Kathy has been in flip flops this week too because of her toes and feet, so I guess you can say that you two feel each other’s pain.April 27, 2018 at 6:34 pm #74433@nascfan Thank you so much! I loved Ryan’s text to me when I had a couple miles to go that he wished he could have come back on the course and given me a piggy back ride to the finish. You are absolutely correct, I had no quit in me! I stared at each and every “sweeper” bus parked along the course and said “nope, not for me!” and I kept moving forward. I ugly cried a few times out there. I told Ryan today that I didn’t even hear my music on my run. It was such a bad run for me that I couldn’t even focus on my music to distract me. I really almost needed to be carried back to the bus! I’m sad that I couldn’t even stick around the savor my finish or take pictures. My body just wanted nothing to do with it. But I am seriously so proud that I finished that race and smile when I look at my medal now!! Poor Kathy!! We do feel each other’s pain!!!
April 27, 2018 at 6:44 pm #74434@eeyorepoohfan I would have been right there with him if we could have. I was seriously bending down afterwards, ready to pick you up if you needed it. Remember, there are no bad runs, this one was tough, rough on your body, but you are such a champion. Don’t you ever forget that.
April 27, 2018 at 7:15 pm #74435@nascfan You are sweet, thank you!!!! I know you would have carried me if needed! I will never forget that I’m a champion! I promise!!!
