bexruns374 XPHappy Monday all!
Today is the first day in almost 3 weeks that I’ve felt good when I woke up!
Saturday I had my 5K and managed to get 4th in my AG. My time was slow (for me) but I’m not down on myself about it for 2 reasons: it was REALLY windy Saturday morning and I was still getting over my cold. SO, it’s all good!
Going for a run after work tonight and my last race of the year is this Saturday morning.
Happy running all!December 18, 2017 at 4:20 pm #59451Happy Monday all!

Happy running all!I really hope the air clears for you soon! My aunt was saying how awful it is right now. Glad you felt better today! Oh my gosh girl that’s amazing! Congrats! what race are you running on Saturday?
December 18, 2017 at 4:22 pm #59453@eeyorepoohfan I’m so sorry! I understand your frustrations, you are well trained, but I am so Type A if I’ve made a plan and that’s what I need to do and I’ve mentally prepared myself to do it – by golly I want to get it done! but, you are right to heal up because you don’t want to wear yourself down this close to Dopey I hope you feel better real soon!
December 18, 2017 at 4:23 pm #59454@missingWDW @eeyorepoohfan Thanks for the encouragement and well wishes on my 5K!

The smoke is gone from here, it’s just the stupid wind! It’s been like this for over 2 weeks. It’s supposed to die down today, thank goodness.
My run this Saturday is just another small 5K but its Christmas themed, so I’ll be wearing my Christmas garb againDecember 18, 2017 at 4:40 pm #59458@bexruns Congratulations!!!!!! You had two huge obstacles that you fought through! You rocked that 5k! And you will rock your 5k this Saturday as well!!!!! I’m so glad you are finally feeling better! That was a long haul!
December 18, 2017 at 4:41 pm #59459What a busy weekend! I did not have time over the weekend to post about the Rudolph Run 5K but it went great!
It was 36* I think but super windy! I forget what the mph was but it was strong and made me feel chilly. I was hoping for no wind. I guess you could say this was my first serious race because my others were virtual and a fundraiser. There were so. many. people! It was pretty intimidating! The race took place in the small town where I live, so I figured there would be more people than my November 5K but didn’t think that many. I debated walking first and then running or just going right in to running and that’s what I ended up doing. It was cold! I started running and based on the songs I listened to at time, I would say I ran for around 8 minutes straight. I was doing great with the wind on my back until we rounded a corner and then the wind was blowing at my face. It was hard to breathe and run against so at that point I took my first short walk break. Later on we rounded another corner and the wind was against my back again
I feel like I kept those pretty short and then got back into running. I didn’t time my running or walk breaks, I just went for as long as I could and took a break for as long as I needed. I didn’t use set ratios either. I really enjoyed the fun signs people were holding: “Stop reading, start running”, “Don’t stop, people are watching” and my favorite “Run like a millennial runs from commitment” tons of people were dressed up, I saw elves, reindeer, Christmas onesies, fun hats and ears, but I opted not to. I would say it was about half and half of people dressed up and not dressed up. Some people just wore their finisher shirts.
Despite this race being bigger they did not have signs up like my last 5K noting the distance. I could see the halfway point but it was strange because not knowing how far I had gone or still had to go, the first half felt like it took forever and then the second half was over super quick. Weird. Because of the wind I felt like I was walking a lot and also because of some narrow curves where everyone got bunched up and I had to walk, I thought this was going to be a slow race for me. Thankfully I was wrong! At times it felt tough but it never felt like I wouldn’t finish so that was great
Here are my stats:
Finish Time: 35:02 – a new personal best!
Pace: 11:17/mile
Division Place: 31 of 71 (Females age 25-29)
Gender Place: 264 of 699
Over Place: 462Having those stats is really awesome! I’m on a high and considering yet another 5K in January since it’s looking highly likely I will be here the whole month
December 18, 2017 at 4:48 pm #59460@starbee Yep! I’ve stuck to my training plan until this last weekend, besides missing a few short runs here and there. So it was difficult mentally! But I literally stayed home and didn’t leave the house from Friday night until this morning for work. It was the best decision I could have made! I still have sinus congestion and coughing. But I feel a whole lot better! I won’t be able to run until my lungs fully heal. If I don’t, they will just get worse. I hope your 5k went well!!!
December 19, 2017 at 7:22 am #59488So much to catch up on here!
@missingwdw sorry you were sick, I hope you’re feeling better. Great job on your runs!
@bexruns wonderrful job on your 5k! I also hope you are all better now. That dang wind, hopefully the smoke will stay away for you.
@starbee awesome 5k! I’m so proud of you! Look at how much better you are doing and how your times have come down, you finally found a program that works for you and I’m so happy for you! You’re going great!
@eeyorepoohfan we’ve of course been heavily in touch with your issues and I’m so glad you are healing up and doing better. Hoping and praying for 100% better very soon!Keep up the good work everybody!
December 19, 2017 at 11:17 am #59545@starbee I am so stinkin proud of you!!!!! The race environment really pepped you up!!! Those winds are tough to run head on into, but glad you got tailwinds for much of it! It stinks that they didn’t have mile marker signs, especially when you are expecting them. I would struggle at a race without seeing signs of my progress. My watch tells me my distance, but there’s something mentally helpful about mile marker signs! And look at your pace!!!!!! Just amazing!!!! I’m glad you listened to your body and did what felt good!! And you still did your ratios, just not set ones. You have come a long way!! Sign up for that January 5k!!!!!
December 19, 2017 at 11:25 am #59549@nascfan Thank you so much!!!!! I am on the mend!!!!!!!! I only woke up a couple of times last night from coughing!!! We will go walk the mall today to see how I’m doing! Maybe a run tomorrow. If not, this weekend!
December 19, 2017 at 11:31 am #59553@eeyorepoohfan that’s wonderful! You are definitely doing better! Good luck with the mall, I hope it feels good and you can get out and run very soon! I’ll be right there with ya!
December 19, 2017 at 11:34 am #59555@nascfan The resting has really paid off! I just want to walk and not be winded! I don’t think I’m asking for too much!! Thank you!!!!!
