Great job @breesmommy5 ! I’m so glad you were able to get some miles in! I hope that helps!
June 16, 2019 at 7:42 pm #112391Awesome job this morning @eeyorepoohfan ! I’m sure Winnie was happy with her walk and you did great with your workout!
June 16, 2019 at 7:46 pm #112392@starbee I am just so danged proud of you! It is my pleasure to be your cheerleader, I assure you! That was hot and you did absolutely fantastic! I can *almost* guarantee it will be cooler for the Dopey! I knew Heather would remember the corrals, it looks like you will be in a great spot with lots of cushion for any character stops you will want to do. You are doing just amazing!
June 16, 2019 at 9:38 pm #112393@nascfan Thank you! I still can’t believe I did it! I was so worried about it that it seems surreal I actually did it! Yes, I will have the advantage of starting 2 hours earlier for Dopey which for the half means I’ll be finishing right after the time I started this race!
June 16, 2019 at 10:58 pm #112395@starbee I recommend smaller sips of water but try not to suck in extra air. That might be contributing. And only drink on walk breaks to reduce the air you’re pulling in too. It’s taken me a while to figure out my water intake to keep my stomach from getting upset. I’m glad you like the flip belt! That will really help with your training runs! I truly don’t think you will have any concern about getting swept! I wasn’t even using set ratios when I ran Dopey and still finished within the time parameters! In fact, when I was running the full and exited Wide World of Sports I saw the sweepers heading in. I was nearly 4 miles ahead of the sweep at mile 21! I almost could have fully walked to the finish and stayed ahead of them.
June 17, 2019 at 9:22 am #112396@starbee CONGRATULATIONS!!! I extend a Laurel…and Hardy handshake to you!!! But film references aside, so happy for you getting your first 1/2 Marathon completed and with a good time for a hopeful better corral than the rest of the crowd during the Dopey Challenge! I hope we’re able to get a comparable time on our 1/2 Marathon in September…our last distance run wasn’t so good, but we’ve got time to improve
June 17, 2019 at 9:59 am #112397So here’s my latest on how we’ve been doing. I have some catching up to do here:
On May 31st we ran 5k at the local park. We finished in 0:34:00 for a pace of 10’56″/mile. That is our best pace of 2019 right there! Here’s the full stats on that https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3706445197
On June 8th we ran 4.0 miles at the same park. We finished in 0:44:49 for a pace of 11’12″/mile and set a new record for our Fastest Mile at 9:17! Here’s the full stats for that https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3730575058
On June 15th we did our next long-distance run of 10.0 miles This one was HARD on me in particular. I think I hit the wall around 2 or 3 miles in and never got a second wind. It wasn’t especially hot or humid (an we’ve had some really nasty heat and humidity lately around here). I had my Tailwind, but after reading some posts between @eeyorepoohfan and @starbee I’m thinking what happened is that I just took in too much fluid during the run. We did manage to finish the run in 2:11:12 with a 13’07” pace. Not our best, but certainly not our worst. Christy graciously stuck with me through it all even though I think she could’ve outrun me by quite a bit. We ran a rail trail about 20 or so minutes from home. After we got home from the run I actually threw up and my stomach felt knotted up the rest of the day. Guess I better check myself before I wreck myself when it comes to fluid intake. Full stats: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3730575058
June 17, 2019 at 10:41 am #112399@rocketear99 Thank you so much! I’m sorry your last distance run wasn’t good, but I guess that’s a rite of passage we all have to go through. The same happened to me as you know and I think we made similar mistakes. I think I drank too much too quick and perhaps you did too. At least you finished your run! I didn’t but also you have time to improve and I know you will!
June 17, 2019 at 12:17 pm #112409@rocketear99 You guys are doing great on your training! Let me tell you, you will have some challenging training days! But just trust your training! I had a few hot summer runs during Dopey training that I threw up afterwards. I know that mine was from drinking too much water too quickly upon completion of those runs. I was just so hot that I chugged. So be sure to slowly sip water. I also learned that drinking room temperature water was easier on my stomach than cold water. It really is a learning curve for each person to find their threshold for fluid intake and how much at any given time. There’s no easy or simple answer. Be sure to just sip little sips at any given time and try not to suck in air while you drink. I found that I can only drink on a walk break, otherwise I sucked in too much air. Your pacing is just fine too! And keep in mind that as we get more into summer, your pace should slow down for safety. So focus more on the miles and not the pace. Your half is in the fall, which SHOULD be cooler and you will naturally run a bit faster. If you keep on with your training and staying consistent on your miles, you will do just fine at your half for POT!
June 17, 2019 at 1:50 pm #112413Thanks @starbee and, as always @eeyorepoohfan, thanks for your feedback!
June 17, 2019 at 1:54 pm #112414@RocketEAR99 You’re very welcome! Shoot any other questions or concerns my way! I’m happy to help!
June 17, 2019 at 3:04 pm #112430General running question for you guys:
Do you track your miles as you’re going? Meaning, do you receive alerts of how far you’ve gone? If so, how often? Every mile? Every couple miles? Do you think that helps or makes it worse?
I’ve been thinking about how I don’t like to clock watch because it feels like time passes so slowly and that feeling makes me want to stop. I also reflected on how much more quickly the last 4 miles of my recent 9 mile run went by compared with the first 5. I only received distance alerts for the first 5. It made me wonder if it makes it harder to keep going when I hear my progress every 1 mile. What are your thoughts?
June 17, 2019 at 3:23 pm #112431@rocketear99 so sorry about that long run! That’s so hard. But you really are doing fantastic with your training! You’ll find that perfect mix and shine for sure! Proud of you pal!
June 18, 2019 at 9:18 am #112438got to the gym last night ! I really wanted to run outside but it was raining AGAIN
4.2 miles in 60 minutes, I tried to run as much as I could and actually ran 2 minutes and that’s my longest I have lasted running without resting, it’s a slow process for me
June 18, 2019 at 11:47 am #112458Stupid rain @breesmommy5 ! Great job getting to the gym! You did awesome, and that long of running at a time? Super job!
