Great job @rocketear99! Sounds like a beautiful scene for a run/walk/bike ride, anything!
December 17, 2018 at 1:39 pm #97364December 17, 2018 at 1:49 pm #97367@breesmommy5 – my BFF is a physical therapist and an Iron Man competitor. She would recommend the following:
Make sure when you are running you are concentrating on your form. Make sure you aren’t leaning back, or leaning forward. That your body is not stiff. That your feet are hitting heel-big toe- heel- big toe.
Breathe from your chest and back. Not into your stomach. If your tummy is inflating and not your chest, you should be concentrating on making sure you are filling your lungs.
Don’t do a lot of stretches before you run. Stretches loosen your muscles. You can do some stretches, but don’t spend a long time lengthening and loosening your muscles before you use them. It’s counterproductive.
To deal with the pain now – Keep your heals on the ground. Bring you body all the way down so you are hugging your knees. Use a counter for support if needed, but heels should be flat on the floor. Slow, deep breaths – your back/chest should be inflating, not your tummy.Hopefully these tips help you. Because I know they really helped me! And lots of water! Especially a few hours before a run. If your blood is thick from dehydration you’ll have a lot of issues. Especially with side stitches and cramping. =)
December 17, 2018 at 2:13 pm #97370@breesmommy5 you did great for your back troubles! And don’t even worry about pace on Saturday. It is much more important for you to remain healthy and get that back healed. If it takes you an hour, hour fifteen, whatever. Your finishing time will not be important.

I wondered how to breathe correctly because I think that is my main problem, I think I stomach breathe so I’m always winded. Thanks I’m going to work on those things !!

I will be careful I promise !! The kids will be with me and I think we’re going to walk the entire time. I will keep you posted !!
December 17, 2018 at 9:57 pm #97428I hope they work well for you! As an added bonus I find that when I’m concentrating on my form, I forget that I’m pooped and how long I have to go until im done. Because my brain is busy!

10dedfish177 XPmorning all!
Got a few miles in this morning, first run in 2 weeks. Still got a bit of a head cold, but really wanted to get back out there. Temps were a balmy 37, no wind. Pretty sure I saw a satellite fly over as well. Time was 36:01, 4.4 miles, 10:29 pace.

missingWDW183 XP@10dedfish I ran in the same yesterday morning. Balmy 38°. I heated up quick and had to take off a layer. But it was really nice to run in! I love starting out in the dark and then seeing the sky brighten with first light as I go. It’s my favorite time of the day. Although, I always wish I were running on the beach instead of in my neighborhood

December 18, 2018 at 3:12 pm #97486@10dedfish and @missingwdw I have zero desire to be out there in those temps so I’ll stick with my inside workouts, but great job both of you!
December 21, 2018 at 9:20 pm #97679@breesmommy5 I hope your back is feeling better! I pulled a muscle in my back this week by watching a 2.5 hour movie on Netflix in bed. The terrible posture I had tweaked something and I felt like an old lady for 2 days hobbling around good luck with your 5k!
@missingWDW you’re now in charge of posting motivational pics in this thread!
@10dedfish Firstly, I wish I could run 4 miles like you can. Secondly, I wish I had that good of a pace at any distance!December 21, 2018 at 9:23 pm #97680I figured if all I do is run my distances at whatever pace is comfortable I should be fine. I run/walk the whole thing, but not at any set interval. I just walk or run as much as I care to. So far I’ve finished all my distance runs feeling like I could keep going for a while and have been pretty consistent staying under a 13:00/mile pace. There was one that was above, but still below 14:00/mile. So with each increasing distance, my confidence is building!
That’s how I felt when I did my first 5K. I did 2 min run/2 min walk and while my overall time wasn’t stellar for a 5K, I felt like I could go on like for a lot longer than 3.1 miles. Good for you! I am so excited for you!

Same! I love it and I feel so accomplished when I run at that time of day! I also love getting to work knowing that if I go home exhausted I already worked out for the day so it’s perfectly acceptable to veg watching Netflix when I get home but it still sucks getting up early
