Wahoo! Way to go @starbee! I’m so glad your knee was ok! I’m so super duper proud of you! Great, great job!
December 14, 2018 at 9:21 am #97212@starbee Awesome that you could get out for a run and your knee cooperated. I love running trails! Sometimes I run them without music because I like hearing the sounds of things around me. I could use a Disney workout playlist though!
We are training for several races:
Abominable Quadzilla 5K in Delaware – Jan 12
Great Cape May Footrace 10K in New Jersey – May 11
Susquehanna River Running Festival 1/2 Marathon in Maryland – Sep 28We’re already registered for those, but our end goal is the Dopey Challenge in 2020

AnonymousXPSo, I have been stuck on either 5x/week walks or walk/runs for most of the last month because of a nagging hammy issue that has plagued me all Fall. Today I did a 5K walk at 15:30/mile. What confuses me is that’s a pretty good pace and I had no issues at all. If I slip into even a gentle 13:00/mile jog, the hamstring starts to tighten.
Oh well, it feels good to be out and today was a balmy 49 degrees down by the ocean. All is good!
December 15, 2018 at 8:58 am #97241Great job @yoda! I’m so sorry about your hammy problems. You are killing it with the walks though!
December 15, 2018 at 10:26 am #97246@nascfan @rocketear99 Thank you! I planned on getting out again yesterday morning but we had freezing rain – no thanks! maybe now I’m home for the weekend I’ll go out for a run with Leia tomorrow morning
December 15, 2018 at 10:44 am #97249@rocketear99 I agree, sometimes I pause my music on the trails to listen to the nature sounds Wow! That’s a lot of good stuff coming up! Good luck with your training! The Dopey Challenge is an awesome long term goal! great to see the big picture and break it down from there. I’d love to do Dopey but I’m not sure I have it in me
December 15, 2018 at 1:48 pm #97254Oh @starbee I’m glad you didn’t try to go out in the freezing rain! Yikes! I hope you can get out tomorrow with Leia!
December 15, 2018 at 3:16 pm #97256@Nascfan Yeah that wouldn’t have ended well! I hope so too, it irritates me when I finally gear up to run and something like that happens I plan on running a 10K in April and I’m considering doing the Star Wars Virtual Half but with the winter weather being unpredictable I don’t know if I have enough time to train
December 15, 2018 at 7:56 pm #97273December 17, 2018 at 7:53 am #97334@yoda That is indeed a puzzling situation your hammy is in. Glad your walks are going well, but I hope your muscles cooperate with you again soon!
December 17, 2018 at 8:08 am #97337@starbee We have to run between rain drops here too lately Hope you’re able to pick up your training again soon!
I couldn’t quite wrap my head around doing the Dopey either until I decided I’d do 2.5 miles at an abnormally slow pace compared to what I’m used to. I walked the first full mile and then ran/walked at 10/50 second intervals each minute until I finished the rest of it. My pace was 15:36/mile which is under what you need to qualify for the Disney marathon
So then I figured if all I do is run my distances at whatever pace is comfortable I should be fine. I run/walk the whole thing, but not at any set interval. I just walk or run as much as I care to. So far I’ve finished all my distance runs feeling like I could keep going for a while and have been pretty consistent staying under a 13:00/mile pace. There was one that was above, but still below 14:00/mile. So with each increasing distance, my confidence is building!
December 17, 2018 at 8:11 am #97338@eeyorepoohfan You and Ryan are just doing stellar together! So happy to see you’re continuing to make gains!
December 17, 2018 at 8:17 am #97339@eeyorepoohfan I can’t believe I missed this one! How did that happen! Well I’m going to make up for it now, I am SO proud of you! Always am but even more now! You did absolutely great and are going to be phenomenal in April! You’re going to have a great time for future race corrals and just be awesome! Great job superstar! Woo Wooo!
December 17, 2018 at 8:19 am #97340@rocketear99 what a great plan! And it’s awesome to see you and your training already coming along! I love to see that you are able to maintain a comfortable pace and still feel like your body can do more. You’re going to do great, keep it up!
December 17, 2018 at 8:24 am #97341We had rain ALL weekend except for about 2 hours on Saturday afternoon. So we were able to get our run in. I was so worried it wouldn’t work out, but was overjoyed that it did!!! On top of everything else, temps were in the low 50s, so I got to put on my running *shorts* again instead of my pants. We drove about 20 minutes to the town of Perryville and did our run by they northeastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay – a route I used to ride my bike on when I lived in the town. Even in the calm and somewhat gloomy weather, we got to enjoy the views across the water, saw a lot of deer, tons of geese, ducks , and loons (that’s waterfowl, not people ) as we ran. All-in-all a very fun run and a great pace too!
Distance: 4.50 miles
Time: 0:54:49
Pace: 12’11″/mile
