    @ABeach Oh my goodness! I’m so stinking proud of you for finishing the half marathon!! I know that you’ve been plagued with injuries and that makes your finish even more amazing to me! Your pace was amazing! I don’t know how you managed to run the entire thing, minus the second half of that one hill. You should come run the Star Wars Half Marathon April 7th at WDW!!! Ryan and I are running it! Keep up on your training and your April race will be amazing too! I’m just trying to get back to running again now to start my training for April!

    @Breesmommy5 Eek! I’m so excited for you! You will do awesome! Just start off a bit slow to find your pace and keep on moving! Are you going to walk/run it? I will be cheering you on!!! I haven’t done the Disney Virtual races. However, I believe that once you have registered and the virtual race dates have started, you should be able to just log in to your account and submit your results. Theirs are typically the honor system and mail out the medals in waves. What distance are you running for that?

    I’m sorry for my VERY LONG running absence on here! However, you will be seeing me post a whole lot more starting in the next week or so! We will be fully starting our Star Wars Half Marathon training at the beginning of December. I’ve gotten in a few 5k training runs over the last couple of weeks. Some have felt really good but my pace has dropped to a 12:15 min/mile pace on my good days. My hard days have been between 12:30-12:45 min/mile paces for a 5k. Our weather and air quality have been all over the place. So my runs have been dictated by those factors.
    Great job to everyone that’s been out pounding the pavement or running on the treadmill! Keep up the great work! I hope we all stay motivated on our running throughout the winter!

    @breesmommy5 yeah, like Heather said I’m sure once you’re registered they just open up a time slot once the race period starts. We did a virtual 5K with Main Street Bella that Heather turned us onto and we got an email when the race period opened up to submit our times. It was pretty easy to follow along with the instructions. @kcboston did the virtual 5K’s last summer so she could probably provide information.

    And @eeyorepoohfan you are going to be great! Praying for good weather all winter for you, but you are a superstar no matter what! You got this and I am right behind you all the way, hollering and cheering!

    Ok thanks !! I am doing the 5k
    I ran/walked 3.5 miles in 45 minutes so I’m going to start keeping track of my times :)

    @breesmommy5 So excited for you signing up for your first 5K!!! :star: I was nervous about my first 5K too. I remember showing up and seeing all these other folks, many of whom at least appeared to be in much better shape than I was and thinking, “I don’t know if I belong here, but I paid $25 so I’m going!” LOL I found out very quickly after the run started that walkers, runners, and walk/runners like me all totally belong. It’s all about having fun (and for me, a goal for motivation to keep working out at home). So train, run or walk at your own comfortable pace, don’t overclock your muscles, and most of all: have fun! It’s totally worth it if you’re having fun! :)

    @eeyorepoohfan So good to see you back on track (literally and figuratively)!!! Hoping your weather cooperates with your training schedule!

    I can’t tell you how encouraging it was to read all you had to say about doing the Dopey Challenge! Thanks for all of that information! We’ve been using the Jeff Galloway training programs as a guide in building up to the full marathon. I tried to train for the 2013 Disney Marathon, but my car got totaled and I needed to put the money toward a new vehicle. My income wasn’t quite strong enough for me to take the hit of buying a car and going to Disney, so the plans fell through :( Using Jeff’s program, I had gotten my long run up to 15 miles!

    We have a 5K (with 4 hills) we’re signed up for in January in Delaware, then we plan on doing a 10K in February in Maryland, then a 1/2 Marathon in Pennsylvania in late April on our way through the training. Summer we’ll have to back off a bit with our vacation travels, but then getting back to progressing our long runs in Fall 2019.

    By the end of it all, our ultimate goal is to do the Dopey Challenge! :surprised: I’m glad we can talk to you about your experience with that :) Most of the questions we’ll have about the Dopey will probably be regarding the events themselves rather than the training prior (because of all the unknowns). For now I’ll just ask, after doing the 5K and 10K, do you recommend going ahead and putting forth a strong effort in pace or just taking it kind of easy because of the 1/2 and Full back to back afterward? I ask because I’ve never done runs 2 days in a row and wonder about how much of a muscle strain it might be.

    Thanks so much! :)

    @RocketEAR99 Thank you! It’s good to be back in both ways! That really stinks about what happened in 2013! Praying this time will go off without a hitch! You have a solid training plan!! Are you doing Dopey in 2020? Or the marathon in 2020 and Dopey down the road? I was a one and done marathoner! LOL The training schedule just gets to be a bit much for me to do it again! LOL we usually just did a max of two days in a row. There are set weekends in which you will do 3-4 consecutive days. I promise that the amount in Jeff’s plan is enough! I took the first 3 races leisurely. I didn’t overly slow down, but I took more walk breaks. I was a good 1-2 min/mile slower than normal, intentionally. I felt good during the half but took extra walk breaks. I could have finished in around 2:50 but took 3:15. We had read that some people suggest slowing your overall pace by about 30 minutes. At the full I was too tired from early wake ups to push hard. But I kept moving, took selfies and pics. I managed negative splits and my second half of the marathon was faster than the first half! But listen to your body when you practice back to back days and even at the races! Don’t be afraid to slow down a bit. You don’t want to be out there longer than needed but you also don’t want to push too hard and tax yourself. You don’t have the recovery days between runs. I found that each consecutive day it took me a little longer to find my pace and groove. I’m here to help, cheer, answer questions and provide any support I can on your marathon and Dopey journey! The big key is to figure out your nutrition and electrolyte replenishment for your long runs.

    Got some miles in this morning, 3.2 miles in 32:35, for a pace of 10:10. Temps were 41, W/C was 33. Good stiff breeze blowing steady between 10-12 mph, gusts to about 15. Nice beautiful clear morning. Didn’t see any satellites or shooting stars, but that’s what makes seeing them special. :cool:

    @eeyorepoohfan Thanks for the tips! The Dopey is our goal for 2020 :dopey: Like you, I think we’ll be one-and-done marathon runners LOL Besides, the way I see it, once you’ve run a marathon at WDW, why do one anywhere else? ;)

    @eeyorepoohfan Thanks so much for the encouragement! I’ve been bitten by the running bug once again since having such a positive half marathon experience on Nov. 10. Praying all goes well for you and Ryan as you ramp back up your training. I would absolutely love to run the Star Wars Half next April, but I don’t think I can get that one to work out with the schedule. However, 2020 might be doable. ;)

    @RocketEAR99
    And thank you also! I think it is awesome that you and your wife have your sights set on the Dopey and have a long term plan to make that happen. I’ll be reading your updates, cheering you on, and celebrating the race milestones along the way as you work toward that ultimate goal.

    @breesmommy5
    And how exciting that you have a 5K on the horizon!! Cheering you on as you train for that one.
