    @bexruns you are doing so great on your recovery! I can’t wait for you to be able to run again, for your mental sake, but I am so proud of you for obeying doctor’s orders and doing so well!

    @starbee
    oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about your side stitch! Don’t let it worry you though, those things just happen sometimes. You’re going to do great in basic. Awesome job keeping with it but not pushing too hard and risking injury!

    Gotta catch up. I’ve done two runs since my last time posting here.

    The first one was on Friday. It was not a great experience, but I did run a full half mile so I’m counting it! Finished 0.5 miles in 0:04:35 for an average pace of 9’10″/mile.

    The reason this one was so short is that as I got into it, after my long work week, my muscles were asking “You want us to run? With what energy? Can we nap instead?” :( and then my left knee for some reason all copped this attitude and said “Knock it off or I’ll make sure this is your last run for a while!” :angry:

    So yeah, I quit and took a nap.

    Sunday I got back at it with a paced workout and my knee and muscles were happy to oblige. Did 2.51 miles in 0:30:00 for a pace of 11’58″/mile. :)

    @rocketear99 Nice! We all have off days, but I have a hard time accepting mine :P definitely don’t do what I did and push yourself too much! You did great on Sunday so clearly, you just had an off day ;)

    @nascfan
    Thank you, I didn’t have a great run this morning either and it’s really stressing me out. I wasn’t worried about PT in basic at all until I got shin splints. Worst timing ever. I have been eating like crap recently so hopefully it’s just that. I took the same amount of time off in March when I had gastritis and jumped right back in with no issues.

    Aimed to run another 2 miles this morning. I just wanted to get one successful, pain free, run in before basic training so that I could feel confident. Sadly that didn’t happen. It stormed this morning so I waited until that was over before heading to the trail. It was 78* and 85% humidity, I’ve run in worse, but that still wasn’t great. I stretched, walked for 2 minutes to warm up, then tried for 2 miles. I made it almost 1.5 miles before I felt like I was going to throw up (I have no idea why, that’s happened to me once before since I’ve started running, and that was when I was using the weird “track” at work) so I stopped, was super out of breath, and walked for another 2 minutes back to my car. Furthermore, I ran that in 17:26, I haven’t been that slow since February and also that’s a fail. Not feel good about basic at all today and if I think about it too much I may cry. All that hard work I put into running for it to go to crap in 2 weeks right before I ship out, all because of shin splints :donald:

    The only saving grace is, I’m not in pain. I’m really hoping that this is all just because I’ve been eating like crap recently because I’ve been too busy and too lazy to cook, and I’ve been eating snow cones and drinking beer at every given opportunity since I will have neither for the next 4 months. Hoping once I get to basic and I’m forced to have good nutrition and hydration, my performance will improve. I did not have these issues after 2 weeks off due to gastritis, so I’m pretty disappointed that 2.5 weeks off with shin splints has ruined me.

    Pity party over, there’s no turning back now :hatbox:

    @starbee please don’t stress about it. You are going to be fine! You are going to do great! Trust what Eagle90 tells you in the other thread, he knows what he’s talking about. You have a great base and with as much running and training as you are going to be doing there, you will have it back and beyond in no time. As for this morning, 78 degrees and 85% humidity can make you feel like you’re going to throw up alone! Geez, talk about swimming in air! You will be great!

    morning all.

    Went to an orthopedic Dr yesterday to deal with shoulder pain in the middle and rear delts. Been going on for several months, and I took 2-3 months off from lifting to give it time to rest. Ended up getting a cortisone shot and being told to build up my rotator cuff muscles.

    My question is do you guys think I should go ahead with my Spartan races at the end of month? I dont want to injure myself more but I also dont want to give up on the races.

    @10dedfish the Spartan races are incredibly tough right? And they are the end of this month, July? With your shoulder situation I wouldn’t. That just sounds like a recipe for worse injury. If you had a couple months to build up I’d say ok, but that just seems like everything bad could happen.

    @10dedfish I am inclined to agree with @Nascfan on this. My concern would be the physical elements of the race that would require you to have to climb and pull yourself up over obstacles. A guy I work with has been training for a Spartan race and just this past weekend he fell 10 feet on his back attempting to climb over a wall. He broke one of the vertebrae in his spine and could be in need of surgery. So, my concern is that the shoulder might give out just enough to cause a different kind of injury.

    @abeach @nascfan

    thanks for the comments guys. I did make one error, the races are the end of August. I somehow forgot to type “next” before month. Do you still think I should sit it out?

    @10dedfish That could give you enough to build back up some of the strength in the shoulder. But, if you are still feeling the discomfort closer to race time, I would heed the words Henry Jones, Sr gives to his son when the Holy Grail is just out of reach…..

    @10dedfish yeah that’s right on the cusp of what I’d feel comfortable with you doing. Test it, test the shoulder out. Do some things to build it and see how it goes. If you’re not making progress like you think you should by the end of July, that’s two weeks, then probably best not to push it.

    @nascfan @abeach thanks. I have a question out with my CPT (certified personal trainer) buddy asking for his thoughts.

    Almost time for a new pair of running sneakers.

    Thanks for the reminder, I almost *always* wait too long to replace mine, an insert, and socks!! :clap:
