It’s just a matter of time before they start making us use a credit card to hold a fastpass ressie. I mean the whole booking in advance thing is ridiculous IMO. People are holding all of the good passes and you know as well as I do that if you don’t make it to your appointment, you don’t go and hassle with getting on the WDW website and cancelling the fp’s. I know I don’t! I sure miss the days of hoofing it to the ride to get the passes you want. I can NOT stand that they have “tiers” for the good rides and then the not so popular. I don’t know about any of you, but I have never needed a flippin fastpass for The Living Seas with Nemo. Now I guess I will have to choose between Frozen, Test Track and Soarin’? I’ve NEVER understood the wait until you’ve used this or that pass before you can get another one thing. I figure there is no chance of getting any kind of good fastpass on the same day. And the best part was someone walking up to you and giving you their unused fastpasses or getting to make someone else’s day by giving them mine.

I think, with the new system, they have to have tiered fastpasses otherwise everyone would use their 3 FP for those 3 attractions. That leaves the rest open and these 3 will long lines. They try to even out crowds as best as possible (like the new tiered seasonal ticket pricing). DLR is beginning to migrate to a new FP system as well. Theirs, though, will be an extra fee per day to be able to do it from an app instead of a kiosk. It’s all moving towards technology.

Anyone who has been on since FP+ was announced know I was a very vocal opponent of the system from back then. I did not like the idea that my full day would be planned and ‘on the clock’, I hated that the FPs were never close to each other, and I despised the concept that non-FP rides became FP+ and created artificial lines… and don’t get me started on the whole 3FP limit and tiered selections thing!

That being said, I did retract some of my venomous resistance to the system after fully using it in 2016. Our experience was… Yes, you did feel ‘on the clock’ most days, but switching FPs was easy enough to relieve a bit of the tension. With a little time investment, you could adjust your FPs to make a little more sense to the flow of your day. The fact that ‘walk on’ rides had 1 hour waits at points is still kinda mouse-poop, but it was not an every-ride every-day issue. Unlike my 2014 trip, by 2016 the system was adjusted to add extra FPs when the first set were used (I think we used that option twice in 10 days). Tiered selection is still kinda bogus, based on what is deemed tier 1… I    Living With the Land, and I have a soft spot for Great Movie Ride… But they are not tier 1 attractions on any day.

The system is not perfect, but it is not nearly as bad as I anticipated or other changes implemented by the current regime. You do lose out on some prior advantages, but it is not a total loss.

… And as far as paying extra to be able to use the app for FP+, that is terrible. I hope that is a short-lived failure of a money-grab scheme.

I think it is sad that you really can’t ride a ride more than once. In the past, you might ride Rock N Roller Coaster twice one day or Space Mountain twice. With the new system, that’s near impossible.

I’m just curious why you say that? That hasn’t changed at all. You can still rope drop it and hold a FP at the same time. Shoot, I can ride EE a good three or four times at rope drop for example, and hold a FP for it and ride it with that. And that’s a true headliner.

That is true. I may have misspoke it as a fact when it is more of an opinion. What I mean is that it was easier to Rope Drop one big ride or two and get 2 fast passes for another big headliner during the day that you could ride twice. I guess that is still doable, but it is a LOT harder.

For me, there’s more good than bad. I like knowing I’m going to ride 7DMT for example without having to worry about being trampled in the running of the dwarfs first thing. I for sure don’t miss the days of hoofing it over to Test Track to get FP’s then running to meet the family at Soarin’ while they waited and people streamed in ahead of us, starting the day all hot and sweaty. I much prefer to be with my family. I like knowing I can line up two headliners in the same area, back-to-back, and ride one at the end of my window and the other at the beginning of that one, all the while riding other headliners with little to no wait at rope drop.
The bad are very bad though, such as my good friend Acamm not being able to get FoP at all for their AK day. Not allowing two in one park and a third in another at time of original booking is also bad in my book. And the tiers, I blame Disney for not having enough to do in two of their parks vs. the system. That needs to be corrected post haste.
But this was totally off topic, and I don’t mean to hijack Acamm’s thread.

Hijack Away buddy! I agree with you 100% on everything that you said!! We Rope Drop every morning, and ride Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, RockN Roller Coaster, and Test Track more than once! You just gotta commit to waking up early, and then napping at the pool mid day!

That is exactly what we do too! :D We like to get the ‘Big Ticket Items’ out of the way first before it starts getting crowded. You can get a lot done before noon and then the rest of the day can be pool time like @Acamm suggested or all the other attractions.

I like going with the flow as much as I can. I HATE the fact that I have to plan my whole vacation day by day… that is what this Fast Pass system has done. Enough said.

@85glgt I generally only plan my first half of my day… and then I go with the flow for the 2nd half. I like to balance out my OCD a little bit LOL
