I agree its depressing to see Epcot in its current state compared to its hayday. I strongly dislike all the movie based attractions popping up also. seems like such a cop out on disney’s part. But on the other hand I also feel change is due. As die hard Disney fans we would not have a problem going to WOL,Figment (the original),WOM,HZ,UOE, or SSE every trip forever. Most others would rather see something new and cheesy to bring in the new millenial crowd that needs either a thoughtless movie tie in or corporate sponsorship to relate to. Mouse Gear has been a staple since day 1 and hope it is immune as well as SSE but SSE is not the original any more either. Just walking through Epcot with the awesome BGM in the air and beautiful landscapes and buildings made it a fan favorite for many. I surely hope it doesnt lose that appeal. Happy Thanksgiving Disney friends!!

My hubby thinks the Land ride should be sponsored by John Deere. He said if he gets high enough in the company he’ll start “planting the seed”. HA! Now that is a change I could live with!

“1) Why does Mouse Gear need to be replaced?
    2) Why does Epcot need to be made “more Disney”?
    3) How is Epcot not currently “family friendly”?

I’ve got to walk away now…”-Starbee

I’m with you on all accounts

They should add a new nation or two.

Greece? Russia? Peru? Australia? (I know Australia is a continent, but it’s also a country, and since Animal Kingdom wasn’t going to add it any time soon, may as well let Epcot get it)

I’m with the ” Future WORLD needs updating ” group. There isn’t much for me to enjoy other than Sourin’ and Spaceship Earth. I did ride Mission Space, twice and have determined that I cannot ride it anymore. It sucks cause I think it is really a great ride….. but my body disagrees, lol.
World Showcase is good the way it is…. if they want to add another country or two, I’m ok with that.

I agree with everyone, I like Epcot but there is not that much to ride besides soarin and test track, I don’t want to wait forever to ride the frozen ride so we just walked around the World Showcase all day, I could only get a fast pass for Soarin

While Magic Kingdom is still my favorite park, Epcot is a close second. In years past I enjoyed how Disney made learning new things to be entertaining (as they still very much do in much of the World Showcase, the Seas, the Land, Spaceship Earth and most of Animal Kingdom. Part of me longs for Epcot’s glory days when Wonders of Life was still open, and Innoventions actually had something to offer.

I realize Innoventions dwindled in popularity, and UofE needs an overhaul. I wish they would find something fun/educational/up to date to fill those spaces since that’s what Epcot was supposed to be about! It used to be so cool to say that at Walt Disney World, especially as a kid, I had so much fun, and learned so much too! There are still places like that on property, but they are dwindling. :'(

EDIT: Also, the whole tiered fastpass thing is something of a pain when ALL the attractions I really need a fastpass for are in the top tier. They should at least up it to 2 picks in the top tier. Same should be done with Hollywood Studios (why oh why is Great Movie Ride in the top tier???)

OH wow! So many mixed feelings! Yes, I always think that Disney parks are meant to change and evolve as Walt wanted. But it is hard to see our favorites go. I love EPCOT! It might even be our favorite park! But it is showing its age and does need some TLC for sure. I’m perfectly okay with changes, as long as they really do better the park! I would be sad to see Mouse Gears go! Now, if they are just updating maybe the theme, but keeping it the same otherwise, I’m okay with that! They really do need to improve things in Future World. We find ourselves spending less time there than we used to. We were also disappointed on our last trips to see the Pavilions close a good 1-2 hours before the rest of the park! So if felt like there wasn’t as much to do as the day went on.

I understand that things need to change, and I’m fine with it if it’s done well, for example the Finding Nemo overlay to The Living Seas works fantastically. It brings a slightly outdated attraction back into popularity by complimenting what was already there and making it relevant and appealing. Prime example of a bad change is Journey Into Imagination. Why did that need to me messed with? Who thinks Eric Idle improved that attraction? No one. There was no need to remove Dreamfinder, they made things far worse not better. Change should be tasteful and appropriate. Change for change’s sake can really ruin an attraction and damage the park. I hope moving forward we do see actual improvements. My $0.02

In my humble little opinion EPCOT is mostly for families with older children or adults. But what is wrong with that? When my kids were little we spent most of our time in MK. That is to be expected. Now that they are older we have had the most fun in EPCOT. In fact, we have all commented that the last two trips have been the best we have ever had. We did take the kids when they were little to EPCOT and they did Kidcot and somewhat enjoyed it but wanted to be back in MK quickly. I like the idea of there being something for families at each stage of their lives and I loved the idea of EPCOT being “for the bigger kids… :) ” I think Disney’s original idea of making the parks unique is where they need to go back to. I personally would love to see more countries added to WS and each country exemplify their own wonders. Frozen could have easily gone to HS – isn’t that where the movies were supposed to be?

In saying all of that – I do appreciate that Disney does not want to stagnate – I hate to admit it but we have gone to Univeral (gasp… I know, right!) and while we had a great time we constantly compared our experience with Disney and found Universal to be lacking. I do not, however, think that centering so much around movies is the way to go – there is nothing more aging than “old” movie rides – and lets face it – remember Honey I Shrunk the Kids? It became dated quickly and Universal’s rides mostly seem dated at this point in the original parts of the parks. – EPCOT definitely needs to be updated in FW – when you look at Walt’s vision back in the day – it was exciting and very futuristic and most of it came to pass. I would love to see imaginations run wild with what the future holds and truly be in wonder as I walk through FW. :)

Thanks for reading – back to your original programming… LOL

@disneyfan1966 I agree with a lot of what you said. My personal opinion is that Disney seems to be aiming at younger audiences more, toning things down, and removing more adult attractions like Alien Encounter. How about some stuff for older kids and adults too? I still think overall Disney is very family friendly, you can split up and do different rides then meet back when people have different tastes, or attributes that prevent them riding certain attractions. But I go to Universal like you do, and the reason is for the thrill rides because there are more at UO than at Disney. I’m not trying to compare the two, I’m just saying that they each have their own selling points and you don’t have to pick a side. You can enjoy and visit both for different reasons. Overall I think Disney is far better, but I won’t be an exclusive Disney customer without bigger thrill rides. What they have is great, but I will keep going to UO for my adrenaline fix.

I agree on EPCOT too, Walt’s vision was to show the future. I would like to see Future World continue to be a glimpse into the futuristic, while WS continues to be educational. Frozen has no place at EPCOT, that should have been at DHS.
