RIDisneyPinGuy182 XPI saw a mention of an “Epcot overhaul” with the words “similar to what we are seeing now with Disney’s Hollywood Studios” in the same breath.
Am I the only one that is placed in an instant panic at the thought of this?
Though I agree, Future World no longer represents the future, in many aspects; new recent changes to World Showcase do not represent the real world either. In general, on both coasts it seems no ride is safe from the chopping block, no matter how popular… How do you feel about your Epcot favorites?
Epcot is by far my favorite park, and I happen to love some of the “cult classic” rides of WDW. So I wait with bated breath on further announcements.I agree UoE is in dire need of update. However, I hope the update remains related to the topic, and does not become exclusively an attraction of a movie series. I feel a little safer about LWtL because it is a top-tier FP+ still. Lastly, SSE. I would like to say the icon, landmark attraction of the park would be immune to the wrecking ball as well, but again, nothing is safe.
I’d love for everybody to weigh-in… Do you feel a pressing need to get back “just in case”? What changes do you think will take place? Do you feel confident that a better Epcot is on the Horizons (pun totally intended)?

10dedfish177 XPI agree that UoE is on its last legs and has been for a while. I also agree about Epcot being my favorite park. The kids kinda enjoy it, but the wife and I would spend our whole trip there if possible. I am also not a big fan of Maelstrom going away for anything Frozen. Yeah I get that Norway is no longer a supporter but cmon.
November 21, 2016 at 9:07 am #556Universe of Energy is way overdue. Perhaps Figment and maybe the Captain EO/Honey I shrunk the audience (is this really gonna stay pixar shorts?). I don’t think they can touch most of the rides though…so perhaps they mean more the Innoventions area? That space is completely wasted and closed most of the time. The other option is the countries…there is space for another country or two…I would love to see something added here…please? pretty please???
November 21, 2016 at 9:18 am #565My understanding is that UofE is going to become a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. I don’t know if they’re getting rid the building and putting it on the existing footprint, or if they are planning to convert the existing ride system.
Epcot is also my favorite park, and I’m not thrilled at the idea of having a movie tie in like that in the park, but I guess they already have Nemo and Frozen tie-ins. Plus, I guess you can count Gran Fiesta Tour as being a movie tie in as well. Those kind of work, though. I don’t see how they’re going to make GOTG fit in. There is a loose connection with it being next to Mission:Space.
Anyhoo…
Innoventions needs something. I loved the Innoventions idea of being educational, but it also seemed kind of like a big sales pitch for Velcro, Segway, and the other things that came through there. I wait with baited breath to see what they do with it.

RIDisneyPinGuy182 XPIf it is any consolation azcavalier, I read somewhere that GotG has been back-burnered or outright scrapped for Epcot. We shall see.
November 21, 2016 at 10:12 am #581Epcot is my favorite park, and I think above all else, I just wish they would pick a direction and go with it. So much of Future World is vacant or desperately in need of an update. I don’t necessarily have a problem with them putting IP in Future World, I think it’s been done in the Seas pavilion with success. It’s just difficult to see things close with nothing on the immediate horizon.
November 21, 2016 at 10:24 am #582I 100% agree with you. What Disney is doing to Epcot is downright sad and it angers me. :hmmph: It started with Horizons back in 99 when they lost their sponsor and decided to put in Mission: SPACE. I will forever miss Horizons (and also World of Motion). They are taking away the culture of Epcot’s World Pavilion bit-by-bit. Heck, you can’t even get the orange grove smell anymore!!! It was taken away with the demolition of Horizons and then with the Soarin’ update. :'(
I’m overall not happy with Epcot’s changes.

phinz3 XPI’m not happy with anything at Epcot being branded to a specific movie. It’s bad enough that they brought Frozen in. Epcot has been, and should always be, about learning and culture, not about thrill rides and specific movies. Soon enough it will be watered down into just another Hollywood Studios.
And I, too, would vacation at Epcot for an entire week if I could.
November 22, 2016 at 10:51 am #717I’m not sure they can move ahead with GotG can they? Universal has exclusive Marvel theme park rights on the east coast and I would think that includes Guardians.
I agree with everyone else, Epcot (or EPCOT) seems to have lost its direction. I’m all for updating and making the future still reflect the future, but it needs to be tasteful. The Seas is a great example, I love what they’ve done with that overhaul! They didn’t damage the original attraction and that’s a perfect example of how it can be done well.
The Three Cabelleros is ridiculous, I miss El Rio del Tiempo! And don’t get me started on Frozen! I think the World Showcase needs to accurately represent countries and cultures so people can learn about and experience them from afar. Why else do they bring in CMs from those countries? They need authenticity. Frozen is not an accurate representation, not even a little bit. They just took a popular franchise and milked it.
So basically, I love Epcot and I want to see relevant, tasteful changes going forward. RIP Horizons :'(

SassyPixie42 XPI have to weigh in on this. Like most, I see EPCOT as two parks in one. Future World has got to be reimagineered and that may mean saying goodbye to some of our favorite classic attractions. While I don’t see SE changing a lot because of its unique space, the rest of the attractions are fair game to imagineers wanting to make FW more relevant. I may not like it, but I understand it.
Like everyone else, I have serious problems with the change in direction of WS. Sadly, I think the appearance of Frozen in Norway is an indication of where imagineers are headed. Rather than imagining attractions to fit the countries, Disney is reimagining the countries to fit Disney’s bottom dollar. And, they got an instant return on their investment, with Frozen being one of the most sought after FP+s.
Enjoy EPCOT “as is” because significant changes are coming.
November 23, 2016 at 7:33 am #1456Check out this article about the upcoming changes to Epcot.
November 23, 2016 at 8:15 am #1464some of it i agree with and some of it i don’t. does Starbucks need to be expanded and Electric Umbrella shrunk? based on the crowds i see that makes sense. does Mouse Gears need to be changed? um, no! but replacing/updating the old buildings from the 80s i do understand. and tie-ins to movies work sometimes…as long as they aren’t forced in a way that doesn’t make sense. i just don’t want to see every country turn into a movie – what’s next Brother Bear in Canada?
November 23, 2016 at 9:13 am #1487I knew I shouldn’t have read that article!
1) Why does Mouse Gear need to be replaced?
2) Why does Epcot need to be made “more Disney”?
3) How is Epcot not currently “family friendly”?I’ve got to walk away now…
November 23, 2016 at 9:16 am #1490I’m with Starbee here…in my eyes it IS family friendly and IS Disney. I have a feeling they think it has to be movie related to be Disney and that’s just not true.

So. Sad. :'(
1) Why does Mouse Gear need to be replaced?
When I read that, I was sickened. They might as well get rid of World of Disney then at Disney Springs, right?
