Wowsers! They sure do like their haircuts! This should be fun to follow along.
The males’ hair doesn’t stay in regs for very long! Glad I don’t have to keep getting my hair cut! The guys tell me it’s the most painful haircut they’ve ever had please do! That was a neat idea my training manager gave me. He said BMT is harder to process for our friends and family who wonder what we’re doing all the time, whereas we’re always keeping busy. I’ve printed that schedule and it’s on the fridge for hubby

AnonymousXPThe thing I didn’t like about getting a haircut was having to pay for it. First they make you get one, then they make you pay for it!
Funny thing about the first haircut is all the guys walking around rubbing their heads. For most of us, it was the first time we’d ever had a cue ball! You can always tell the newbs because they’re the ones walking around rubbing their heads!

I think that about a lot of the stuff they make us buy

AnonymousXPJust wait till you’re an officer. We have to by EVERYTHING except equipment. Any uniform item we have to purchase and we don’t get a stipend for it except for a one time payment of $500-$600 when we commission. After that, it’s on us. And, that one-time payment won’t cover everything that’s required.
July 9, 2018 at 1:02 pm #82195You get a one time payment for your uniform?! I know that won’t cover it! A few people in my unit skipped our mil ball last year because they didn’t want to have to buy mess dress. I totally get it! And I know on our base we get our food for free but officers have to pay for theirs. Yikes, another reason against me becoming an officer

AnonymousXPYup, one time. And nope, it won’t cover the costs of ASU’s, ACU/OCP’s and all the accessories we have to have. It won’t even cover everything we have to have for ASU’s unless you get the cheap ones at clothing sales.
I don’t have mess dress and never will. Way too much money for a uniform I’ll never wear.
And yes, we have to pay for food. I didn’t have to during my deployment but if I eat in a DFAC otherwise, I have to pay. Luckily it doesn’t cost that much for what you get. Breakfast is the best, though!
Don’t let having to pay for stuff be one of your reasons for not commissioning. We get paid more so……
July 9, 2018 at 3:19 pm #82211One time is so mean! I know that won’t cover it! I don’t know why anyone would buy mess dress – ever! Right, deployment’s different but I know our officers have to pay for the DFAC food and it’s so not worth it even though it’s cheap sounds like you have some good food on your base!
We’ll see how this enlistment goes and then maybe I’ll think about commissioning. The biggest deterrent for me is the AFOQT – you can only take it twice!

July 10, 2018 at 10:03 am #82284@Eagle90 oh how I wish we got nap time! So I found a funny meme to send you back but I don’t want to start something

AnonymousXP@starbee…..Oh, I already started it. Go ahead and post it. It’s all in good fun anyway. Even though we’re different branches, we’re still on the same team. Folks just have to realize that’s what we do. We’ll haze the heck out of each other but if an outsider starts in on one of us, we’ll back each other up. Everything is joint these days so we’re all one big happy family.

AnonymousXPTake it and see what happens. If you make it, great. If not, talk to me and I’ll tell you how you can still be an officer…..

Well if you insist
July 14, 2018 at 11:33 am #82626@Eagle90 It’s true, we’re all on the same team and there’s lots of working together across the branches. We don’t all have the same strengths and that’s why we have 5 branches
Take it and see what happens. If you make it, great. If not, talk to me and I’ll tell you how you can still be an officer…..
Interesting… I’ll remember that
