Alright, listen up folks. We have one of our esteemed members who decided to serve our great nation by becoming a member of the Air Force team. She is a rising star on the D-COT board and I’m sure you all know her or at least have seen her posts. Less than .05% of Americans ever serve in the US Armed Forces and she has decided to join our ranks (yes, I’m military as well). So, hats off and a hearty salute to Starbee!

Now, here’s the meat of this thread. When I went to basic training at Fort Benning School for Boys many years ago, mail call was was one of the most anticipated times of the week. Sort of like driving to Disney. Letters from family went a long way to raising spirits and morale but we eagerly read any mail we received. News from home was great but we enjoyed reading any mail we received.

With that said, I think we have a lot of great D-COTer’s here who may like to send Starbee some mail while she’s gone. She has an account with Write2Them.org. This is an organization that takes emails from folks, prints them and then mails them to the service member. I wish we had something like that when I was in basic but we didn’t. This is a great way to send Starbee some encouraging words while she’s gone and help her get through her time in training. Basic training is not all fun and games so she’ll appreciate getting mail from us.

I’ve already talked to Starbee about this and she was excited to hear that we may be able to do this. If you would like to participate and send her some mail while she is gone, send her a PM with your email address. She must add your email address to the approved sender list otherwise you won’t be able to participate. Once she ships to basic training, you will get an email from Write2Them.org telling you she is there and you can now write her an email. They will then print it and send it to her. She may or may not have the time or resources to write us back but this isn’t about us, it’s about her. If you want to, just PM her your email and she’ll add you to her account.

Thank you in advance to anyone who wants to participate. It may be awhile before she ships but it could be very soon or it may not be until next spring. Just depends on training dates. Please be patient and send her some encouraging words when the time comes. Additionally, Starbee said the instructors may read the letter before she gets them so please be mindful of what you say. Keep it appropriate and encouraging.

Let’s get this done! Inundate her with mail so she’s the most popular person in her flight!

I love this! Count me in!

So is basic 9 weeks? I can’t remember. I’m sure it feels like 9 years to the recruits.

No, she doesn’t have a ship date yet. Hopefully soon but not yet. Just PM her your email address so she can add you to her approved sender list. Once she does, you’ll get an email when she gets to basic training and then you can start sending notes to her.

It is great! My friends used it when they went to BMT and it’s so easy to sit down and shoot a quick email instead of having to hand write a letter and put it in the mail

I’ve been told the days are long but the weeks are short! Yes, Basic Military Training (BMT) is 8.5 weeks. From there I will go to technical school to learn my job but once I get there, I’ll be back on D-Cot ;)
