How close are we to having her home? Should be pretty soon, I think.
September 4, 2018 at 1:09 pm #87683Probably another couple weeksish? She traveled on July 17 so we’re at 7 weeks now and it’s supposed to be 8 1/2 weeks.

AnonymousXPShe should be going to tech school after BMT. I don’t know how long it is for her MOS though.
September 4, 2018 at 2:16 pm #87691Can someone please translate @Eagle90 ‘s acronym speak into civilian language?

AnonymousXPOops, sorry! Tech school is her specific job training after Basic Military Training (BMT). BMT is learning basic military skills, ie. marching, saluting, physical training, wearing uniforms, proper way to make coffee and how to drink it without spilling it, etc. MOS is Military Occupation Specialty or her specific job.
September 4, 2018 at 2:24 pm #87696Surely she gets to go home for a bit after BMT. I am sure she and her family need that. Does she have internet access at MOS? Or at least when she has the time and energy to access it? Look at me using all of these acronyms. I’m a POW. (no, not that one. This one is “Piece of Work”).

AnonymousXPDoubtful she gets to come home, but it is the Air Force so maybe? It would almost be worse to come home and then have to leave again, at least it was for us when I came home for R&R during my deployment. It would have been better just to stay over there. Not saying it wasn’t good to get home and see family, but it was harder on them for me to leave a second time.
She probably has internet on her phone if she gets to have it. She probably doesn’t since she hasn’t posted anything since she left. Normally, trainees don’t get their phones during basic training. During their MOS training they usually get to have them part of the time but they probably don’t get to keep them with them all the time.

AnonymousXPAlso, if Air Force is like the Army, she’ll spend 3-5 days in Reception getting uniforms, shots, medical, paperwork, etc before she goes to the training company (flight in Airdale parlance).
September 11, 2018 at 4:53 pm #88394She must be on the way home! I just emailed her a letter and it was returned saying:
“The Write2Them service for Chloe Kirk has expired, and letters are no longer being mailed out.The message you just sent has not been stored for processing and should be re-sent to a valid email address for Chloe.
Thank you.”
I guess she is on the way home!

AnonymousXPYay!!!! Our newest basically trained military (cough, cough) member. And now that she is a trained member of the United States Chair, er, Air Force, she gets to participate in all of the interservice shennanigans that we are so fond of putting on!
September 29, 2018 at 2:35 pm #90177Hey y’all!
I wanted to check in here and give everyone an update for those who don’t know. I graduated BMT on September 14 and traveled from San Antonio to my next base on September 17. After we graduated that Friday we had a little downtime over the weekend where we were able to go to a rec center and play pool and have access to computers.
I’m now in “technical school” where I’ll be learning how to do my Air Force job. I had a couple weeks of nothing where I did some in-processing as Eagle90 said and also some details while waiting for class to start. I will begin classes on Tuesday and I will graduate Thanksgiving week. I have not been able to go home since I shipped out back in July, but my husband came to my graduation with my aunt and uncle. Like Eagle90 said, that was awesome but also really sucky to go right back into training after that. So I will be here on base until I graduate and go back home.
I was not given my phone until the day I shipped out to come here and then I got my laptop mailed to me this week so I will now be back on the grid I’m having a rough time dealing with not being able to go to Disney as some of you know, I had a trip booked and paid for to be at the D-Cot Meet but the Air Force had other plans. I was initially told that because WDW is within 8 hours of driving from my base, I would be able to go on the weekend if I got advance permission, but that appears to be incorrect. They have bent the rules for other people but I’m not sure I want to try. I could always go after training but it won’t be the same. I wanted to go to the Meet, and F&W and MNSSHP. Other than that things are good so far but we haven’t started classes yet so we’ll see how that goes. I’ll update this thread if and when there’s more to share.
THANK YOU to everyone who wrote to me while I was gone! BMT was very up and down and definitely a struggle in the beginning so I truly appreciated all the letters! I need to count all the letters I got because it was a crazy number which was just amazing! so grateful for the love and support from my D-Cot fam!
