Just returned from a week at All Star Movies and noticed the resort is showing it’s age, seemed like everything needed a coat of paint, icons around the resort looked faded, the carpet in our room looked tired. Still the room was clean and common areas looked fine but wondering if the same is happening in other resorts?

Also the parks weren’t as tidy as previous visits, noticed more trash on the ground, wads of gum, that sort of thing. Hope they can get back on track with the maintenance, just wondering if anyone else noticed it’s not as it used to be?

We felt that way about All Stars back in fall of 2015. We have since moved up to Moderates. We stayed at Zfrench Quarter and absolutely loved the grounds. They were so well kept! But our room felt tired and in need of a refresh. We’ve since stayed at Riverside and Caribbean Beach and both of those rooms and grounds were very well kept. So I think it may be Resort specificband which ones are in line for reverbs. Caribbean beach had been recently updated and it showed inntge rooms.

I think it gets hard for CM’s because so many people are rude and inconsiderate anymore. It’s hard for them to keep up with so many people littering and not caring how they leave their mark on the parks. It makes me sad. For the most part, I saw CM’s doing their best to keep up on things.

I heard they cut back due to the Shangai park costing a lot more than predicted. I can’t afford anything over Value resorts unfortunately so Moderates are not an option. It won’t prevent me from going back, just some observations. :)

@StupidJudy you are not the first person I’ve heard say that All-Stars are looking tired and need of refurb. Pop Century is undergoing some room refurbs currently. Which brings me to my points, 1) might you consider a stay at Pop next time? It’s still a Value. and 2) I hope that All-Stars will be considered on the short list for future refurbs.

The Allstars are all we used to stay at back in the day and loved them. But It’s been years since we’ve been back. I can see how the upkeep can get behind with sheer volume of people and size of the resorts but its not a good excuse to let them slip into disrepair. We have so many fond memories of staying at them and I’m looking forward to staying at the pop this November.

I have heard this also. We saw it with the cutback on nighttime shows. Sounds like they’re just prioritizing other things though. Old Key West is getting it’s second refurb in 6 years, meanwhile the values and some moderates are feeling tired. As a frequent guest at OKW (DVC members) I honestly don’t see what needs refurb. They just finished the last one in 2011 and as of 2015 I thought it still looked great. Sounds like other resorts need it more. Just my $0.02

@nascfan, I am considering Pop even though it’s slightly more expensive per night, it would come out to a days meals for the three of us. If we get lucky and get free dining then it would be a non issue! Does Pop have free dining? @chelle told me Animation Mermaid rooms never have it, not sure about Pop.

That is a great question. We’ve never taken part in free dining so I couldn’t answer with 100% certainty, but I *think* Pop participates. I did a little poking around Google and it looks like at least in the past they have. It’s definitely worth exploring when the time comes I think.

Is it because you never go when it’s offered @nascfan? We got it last time in September 2015 staying at All Star Sports (which is so far my favorite value!), in September of 2011 they had two offers available, kids play free or free dining and it worked out that the better deal was buying the dining and getting the kids play free deal (two kids under 10 at the time).

At the moment there is a deal for 25% off tickets for Canadians until end of May, which is a great deal but if I buy tickets then I can’t get the free dining on a package if it’s available!

Basically we’ve run the numbers and we just don’t eat enough regular meals to justify the rack rates for the room. There are a lot of times that my wife and I will get kids meals (allows room for more Mickey bars and treats ;) ) or even times that we’ll split a full meal with just an extra side added in. And we’ve always been able to get at least some sort of room discount, substantial since we’ve had AP’s the past few trips, and so it has been better for us to pay for meals out of pocket and get the room discount. By 2011 our “kid” was turning 20, so that wouldn’t have worked for us either! LOL

See, that 25% off would be great for us, and possibly or even probably better than the free dining, but you’re right, can’t use any other discounts with that free dining package. It’s just personal preference and cost savings to us.

Kids meals! You guys eat like birds! :)

With two teenagers (one who would eat his meal and part of mine) the free dining is definitely the best deal for our family! LOL

I’ve decided that Disney is racist against their own :p non-Americans get way better deals! Last year I had my parents buy my Blue Man Group and Halloween Horror Nights tickets in France because Europeans got a way better deal, saved us a ton! Then this year I had them buy my Disney tickets because I saved a bunch of money on a 14 day ticket, plus they threw in Memory Maker and La Nouba for free
