The Rumors of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: Wireless Chargers

Disney plans to fully immerse guests into their own Star Wars adventure on the newly discovered Black Spire Outpost, located on the newly discovered planet Batuu. Disney is putting a lot of effort into this project, and on this multiple part series, we’ll take a dive into some of the rumors surrounding this galaxy far, far away.

For Star Wars Land to seem like a legit Star Wars location, Disney plans for droids to be roaming the area all throughout the day. Concept art shows BB-units, R2-units, and even assassin droids. But free roaming droids aren’t connected to a power source, meaning they will have to receive rechargeable power units, and a full size droid can take lots of energy, requiring it to go backstage and charge for a bit. The more expensive route would be to create numerous duplicates of droids so that while one charges, the others can roam.

Also in plan by Disney is numerous toys such as lightsabers that will respond to actions in the land. It would probably ruin a child’s experience if mid-trip, their lightsaber batteries died and they’d have to purchase a new one (which I’m sure Disney would like.) So what’s Disney’s solution to their battery problem?

The rumored solution to this problem points to a patent Disney filed last year. The patent depicts a device that releases electromagnetic waves and science stuff for things to happen. Essentially, this device can charge devices by simply walking into a room. The official name for this device is the “Quasistatic Cavity Resonance.” The rumored solution is simple: Create the droids and toys to be compatible with the electromagnetic field so that when in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the devices are plugged in. The rumor also states that these devices will be hidden under the trash cans of the land, further hiding and immersing the land.

The magic power source seems very likely to be incorporated into the land, but time will tell by 2019. And maybe one day, this technology can be integrated for phone charging! Don’t shoot the messenger.

  1. Ohhhhh…. wow!! This is really cool sounding!!! I do wonder if these magnet power sources will cause any health issues to humans! :surprised:

    • From what we know, there isn’t much affect. But we don’t know everything yet

    • That’s a good point. There was a time when we thought cigarettes were harmless and they’d be included in your government issued ration kit

  2. I think the lightsabers interacting with their surroundings is a way for Disney to directly compete with the interactive wands that Universal sells over at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You can spend hours making things happen with your wand without having to stand in line for an attraction.

    • Huh, never thought about that. It probably will be very similar, just not sure how similar. Lightsabers don’t posses the power to move objects, so who knows?

    • I bet this is the goal.

  3. That all sounds super awesome! Interested to hear more as new information is released.

  4. I am curious how this would impact hearing aids, pacemakers, diabetic pumps, etc. But the idea is awesome, especially if it recharges our phones, cameras, etc. while walking around!
