Magic Behind the Music: Epcot – Fountain of Nations – Full Music Loop

A piece of Epcot history is removed from view, but it’s not forgotten. You can still hear the music from the Fountain of Nations on the D-COT Jukebox!

Fountain of Nations

It’s no secret that, for Epcot, the writing is on the walls… construction walls that is! September is ushering in the great farewell to the Epcot of yesteryear to make way for visions of the Epcot to come. While the Disney Parks are always in a state of flux in some way and change is to be expected, seeing some of the things we have grown to know and love about any park be replaced is bittersweet. When it comes to the Fountain of Nations at Epcot, it is not a welcome change for those aware of its history and those who (like myself) grew up visiting Epcot, being able to soak in a show at this magnificent fountain once every 15 minutes.

Since Epcot opened on October 1, 1982, the Fountain of Nations had been on site. Epcot redefined what it meant to go to a theme park as guests got to see the wonder of technology and how it has shaped our lives, as well as experience the cultures of various nations from around the world and see what makes us unique – but also what can make us unified. The Fountain of Nations, while being a grand showpiece of dancing water in the Future World section was also a sort-of gateway to the World Showcase. As such, when it was dedicated by Lillian Disney, it was fed roughly a gallon of water from each of 23 different countries, poured in by citizens of those countries. Once it was all mixed in, there was no removing it. A trace of those 23 countries would always be in the fountain.

The Fountain of Nations is closed now, but its music lives on in the D-COT Jukebox, where it was added on June 20, 2008. Since its addition, it has been played 83,799 times, making it #15 on the Top 25 Played Overall playlist. It is heavily enjoyed by D-COT members, 589 of which have added this particular full loop track to their favorites. D-COT Supporters have added it to 68 Custom Playlists. It gets a 4.8/5 average rating with 172 votes, making it #15 on the Top 25 Rated playlist. While we are grateful to have the music to remind us of the fond memories of watching the Fountain of Nations make water dance to music, we will be sad to see it missing on our future trips. Still, there is a spark of light in this story. Disney has announced that water has been taken from the fountain to be re-purposed in a new water feature planned for Epcot that will commemorate the past and honor the future. So stay tuned and see you in the future!

  1. It’s definitely going to be so weird not to see that beautiful fountain on the next trip! And thank you for the reminder about the water coming from the 23 countries! I had totally forgotten that wonderful bit of history!
    Nice article!!
    :minnie:

  2. I think this is on several of my play lists!!! I will miss this soooooo much (sob, sob)! I hope what you say about the water is true, I was wondering how they could think of getting rid of something so symbolic, but maybe it will be part of Moana’s :)

  3. I am crushed by this loss. The music here reminds me of the fountain; all the photos by it, the breaks from a busy day, and even a D-CoT member meet-up… and at the fountain, I would think of the D-CoT MouseChat conversations while listening to the loop, wishing my pals were by my side enjoying the moment.
It will be forever missed, and never forgotten.
Thanks for a great article and beautiful photo!
