Melody Time

Melody Time is a Disney Classic. A set of vignettes and each can stand alone. It also allowed Walt Disney to partition the vignettes and tell the stories separately on the Sunday Evening Series. A Plethora of stories drawn in classic Disney style, accompanied by classic Disney music, Melody Time stand the test of artistic time for the past 70 years ago May 1948.

Mary Blair’s artistic stamp is felt in several of the shorts. Once upon a Wintertime’s charm is stamped with Blair’s style.

Johnny Appleseed felt Mary’s influence as well. The real life Johnny Appleseed (Chapman 1774 – 1845), was an American Pioneer who sowed apple tree’s throughout the Ohio river valley. Winston Hibler voiced the story and he did many of Disney’s productions, not the least of which where the Disney’s True Life Adventures such as the Academy Award winning Seal Island. His familiar dulcimer tones narrating our Sunday evening as we all sat about the TV. Dennis Day provided the singing voice and several of Walt’s 9 old men contributed to this classic tale of American sticktoitness.

Donald Duck even reunites with Joe Carioca for Blame it on the Samba. More live action and animation team together for this south of the border musical presentation.

The Bumble Boogie, Trees, Little Toot, With story tellers like Roy Rogers with Trigger, The Sons of the Pioneers singing group telling tall tales that grace this compilation of shorts, that are not short on style, art, music and just pure family entertainment. Melody Time is timeless, and you just sit back and watch this group of vignettes and you’ll have to wipe the memories away from your face with the back of your hand, as you drift back to those days where the carpet you laid upon was warm, your belly full, your mouth smiling, as you took in all that is Disney on a Sunday Night.

    i’ve never seen nor even heard about melody time but that last sentence made me feel so nostalgic!
