Grumpytude499 XPNext question: If we leave Epcot early afternoon and take the monorail to MK how long should the trip take? Let’s say from the time we leave the main entrance of Epcot until we are through the turnstiles at MK. It will be a middle of the road day for crowd size.
February 12, 2018 at 2:53 pm #66258After checking in with Mr. Monorail Pilot, it’s a minimum of 20 minutes, maximum of 35 minutes.
February 12, 2018 at 2:56 pm #66261And using the monorail you never leave a secured area so no extra bag check at MK.

Grumpytude499 XPThanks guys, We don’t want to arrive right at parade time so are trying to plan to be there before it starts. I was unsure if we would leave a secure area because I have not been with the new arrangements.

I know this won’t apply to your specific situation, but just in case: It should be noted that if you are traveling by Monorail TO Epcot, you will go through security screening TWICE. First time will be from wherever you boarded the Monorail (TTC, Resort, or whenever you entered MK), and then again when you disembark at Epcot. Because of the way crowd traffic is forced to flow, there’s no way around it I guess.

Grumpytude499 XPGood to know @rocketEAR99 A couple days later we will be doing the reverse. Rope drop at MK and then Flower and Garden and an evening at Epcot. There is no time crunch though as we are not trying to avoid the 3PM parade.
February 12, 2018 at 4:20 pm #66275Yes, you do leave a secured area when you leave the monorail to enter Epcot. I wish they would figure out a way to move the bag check back so that you don’t. That would be a huge timesaver.
February 12, 2018 at 4:29 pm #66276I should probably mention it may take a lot longer depending on if a Monorail breaks down. Sometimes it takes a few hours! Depending on how long it takes, they may give you compensation Fastpasses, good for anything.

Grumpytude499 XPI think I would just rather get there in a timely fashion.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but I like to use the Transportation Wizard app, according to the Wizard, monorail from Epcot to MK is 44 minutes. If you take the monorail to the TTC then the boat, 37 minutes. Or, walk to Boardwalk from Epcot then bus to MK, 32 minutes. Or, bus to WL then bus to MK, 35 minutes. Many options!

Grumpytude499 XPThanks @stupidjudy I’ll check out the ap but the boys want to ride the monorail at least once and if we can skip bagcheck this would be the time to use it.

Grumpytude499 XPOkay now I’m moving on to online check in. How does it work? I assume you still have to go to the desk to get your magic bands activated etc. Does it save you any time?
February 12, 2018 at 8:23 pm #66298It is a huge timesaver! You just log onto MDE and complete the online check in on your reservation. Nope, no stopping at the desk, that’s the whole purpose of online check in. Your magic bands will already be activated and unlock your room door. You have your tickets linked? They will be right on your magic bands also. I too was apprehensive, until I used it for the first time. Now I swear by it.

StupidJudy71 XPSince we live in Canada we can’t get our Magic Bands shipped and always have to pick them up at the check-in desk, I still do the online check-in anyway so they have my credit card on file, room requests, PIN, time of arrival etc. I guess it still saves some time, our check-in was quick at Coronado.
If you get your Magic Bands shipped to your home, I believe they are already activated and they text you your room number, but I will let someone else confirm this. (seems Scott already has!)
We brought our old MB to use on our first night and full day since we only checked in Sunday night, the old bands were already linked to the room through MDE and could be used interchangeably with the new ones. So we lent one of our old bands to our friend who would come pick us up at the resort, just had to scan the band at the gate. As long as your bands show as active on your MDE they can be used.

Grumpytude499 XPHow far ahead do you check in? When do you get your room number?
