StupidJudy71 XPOh my gosh that is so not in my budget! My whole trip for the three of us including airfare, exchange rate, food and souvenirs costs less than that!
October 3, 2017 at 11:01 am #50833I totally understand!! If we were not DVC members then there would be absolutely no way we could do a trip like this. We purchased our membership on the resale market and not directly through Disney because it would have cost so much more going through them. Our membership is for 160 points each year. If there is a year we do not plan to go, then we can bank those points for the following year and use points from two years together. There is also the option to borrow points from the upcoming year. That is what we did for this trip. We used up all of our 2017 points and borrowed some from 2018. We knew we would not be going back to WDW in 2018, so it worked out for us to borrow. I like the flexibility we have with being able to bank and borrow points. I have 55 points leftover from 2018 now which I will bank for 2019…giving us a total of 215 points for 2019. Anyway, I know that is probably way more info than you were wanting, but thought I would share. Without our DVC membership we would not be able to enjoy Disney vacations as frequently as we do now.
October 3, 2017 at 11:04 am #50834You would need 250 total points for that week at a cost of $17 per point. The cost to rent points would be around $4,250.
As a DVC Member, I totally get it that is way more than what we pay in annual dues!

StupidJudy71 XP@abeach, thanks for the explanation!
October 3, 2017 at 12:11 pm #50848I think this is a prime example of how DVC works for some but not for others. If you like to stay in Deluxe and aren’t made of money, DVC would definitely be the way to go. Conversely, if you are just fine with the Values, DVC is more than you need to spend. All different personal preference and budget tastes.

And for how long you want to stay/time of year. Even one of Disney’s values would have cost more out of pocket for our 10 day trip this year than we’ve paid in annual dues for DVC.

You are so right. It comes down to personal preferences and being comfortable with vacation budgets. The same is true for adding Park Hoppers to tickets and choosing whether or not to add a dining plan to a vacation package. After running the numbers and making a list of the things that have value to us on our Disney trips (AND realizing that we could also vacation at Hilton Head, Vero Beach, or even Aulani), we concluded that DVC would be a good investment for our family.

DisneyPrincessLinda12 XPI had a very good experience with them. The initial sigh up is a little involved if you want to purchase beer or wine otherwise very easy. I also heard that Publix is starting up a similar service, you may want to check into that as well.

StupidJudy71 XP@abeach I would love to read your comments on your Garden Grocers experience!
October 18, 2017 at 2:28 pm #53030@StupidJudy Yes, thanks for the reminder! All things considered, it was a good experience. Our delivery was made as scheduled, however we didn’t get to the room until late in the evening on our first day. It was then that we realized there were a few things missing. I emailed Garden Grocer to let them know and they were very quick to respond. They were apologetic and made sure the missing items were delivered the following day at no additional cost.
I think we overestimated how much food we would need along with how much time we would be in the room to prepare meals. We would definitely order less the next time around and we would not hesitate to use Garden Grocer again!

StupidJudy71 XP@abeach, everything was already in your room when you got in?
October 18, 2017 at 2:38 pm #53033@StupidJudy No. I had to call Bell Services and have them bring the bags up.

StupidJudy71 XPGood to know @abeach! I thought they brought the order in the room! We will be checking in late so I was wondering if we had to ask for it to be brought up or if it would get there before we did!
