@disneyfan1966, you don’t use the Magical Express?

    #50083

No, we have always used a towncar. They meet us at the luggage carousel and we are good to go – I have always heard sometimes your luggage doesn’t get to your room until late when you use the ME and we like having it with us when we check in so we can get unpacked and get everything stored away before we head to the parks.

@disneyfan1966 On some trips I don’t use the luggage tags and just pick the luggage up and take it with us on the ME, (on late flights you don’t have the option to have it shipped directly) so you could totally use ME! You could save a few $ that way, but you could have to wait a bit in a line for a bus and then wait on the bus until they are ready to go, and drop off people at their resorts if you are not the first stop. So you probably save time with the Towncar.

We just placed an order with Garden Grocer for our upcoming trip (October 7-15). This is our first time using this kind of service. We haven’t done the dining plan in years and it we are looking for ways to make our dining dollars go further each trip. We only have four ADRs for this trip and plan to only eat a handful of quick service meals, so we are looking forward to being more in control of what we eat while there. We also decided to not purchase the Rapid Fill mugs this time around which saves around $72 for the four of us. We repurposed that money into our Garden Grocer order. We ordered:

    2 loaves of bread
    ham
    turkey
    apples
    grapes
    bananas
case of bottled water (40 bottles)
case of Dr. Pepper (24 cans)
    3 California Pizza Kitchen pizzas
    blueberry bagels
    butter
    half and half
    sugar
    1/2 gallon of milk
    Nestle Toll House cookie dough
    cinnamon rolls

There was an additional $14 delivery charge. For what this order cost, we would have paid almost this much for a moderately priced table service meal for four. Again, this is our first time to do this, so I can update my thoughts once we return.

@abeach, looking forward to your review! I am not getting the rapid fill mugs either, we won’t be at the resort enough for those to be worthwhile. I am guessing from your list that you will be packing sandwiches? Since you are close to your dates I guess they didn’t give you any discount.
I only do the dining plan when it’s free! :D It works out much cheaper just paying for our meals, sometimes we share meals too. I have 3 ADRs booked so far, that’s probably going to be it, the rest will be counter and breakfast from Garden Grocers order.

@StupidJudy Sounds like we think alike. We will eat something for breakfast in the room, take some snacks with us to the park, and then come back to the room early-mid-afternoon and eat lunch. Or, we may choose a quick service lunch and go back to the room for an early dinner of sandwiches or pizza. We have some flexibility there. We plan to make the cinnamon rolls on Tuesday, which is our low key Disney Springs day followed by MNSSHP that evening. So, there is no urgency to get out the door that morning. I will let you know how it works out for us. It’s worth a try, in my opinion. And I did not get a discount because we ordered so close to our trip date. Oh well. ;)

@abeach, I am guessing you have a kitchen where you are staying for the pizza and the cookies?

Pretty excited about the coffee makers in the new Pop rooms! Values never have coffee makers, brought a small one cup machine from home last trip!

@StupidJudy Yes, we will have a kitchen which will allow us to do things like pizza and bake cookies. We became DVC members a little over three years ago, and we decided for this trip we would splurge a little and go with a 1-bedroom. One of the reasons was to have access to a kitchen so we could see what it is like to prepare and eat some meals in the room. We are hopeful that it will be a good experience. Glad the Pop rooms now have the coffee makers for you! That is awesome!! Should save you a little time in the mornings by not having to stop somewhere and get coffee.

@Acamm Yes, we are pretty excited to have a little more flexibility with our food options and the convenience of having most of what we need right there in the room. :)

@abeach, out of curiosity was the price of the suite with cooking some meals work out to the same as regular room and eating out? I am always curious about pricing different kind of options!

@StupidJudy I am not sure what it would cost to potentially rent the points for the 1-bedroom. Our DVC membership is now paid for (except for our annual dues), so all it costs us is the points that receive annually. There is no out-of-pocket cost to us anymore for the resort part of our trips. The only cost to us at this point is theme park tickets, food, and airfare. Let me do some checking to see what it would potentially cost to rent points for a 1-bedroom during the time of year you are going. February, correct?

@StupidJudy OK. Looking at a 1-Bedroom with full kitchen at Bay Lake Tower for those dates, you would spend $8,031 just for the room going directly through Disney (not including tickets or dining). Here is what it would take to rent points through a company such as DVC Rental Store: You would need 250 total points for that week at a cost of $17 per point. The cost to rent points would be around $4,250.

Here is a list of how many points it would take at other resorts for a 1-bedroom with kitchen:
    Boardwalk (206 points)
    Beach Club (255 points)
    Wilderness (255 points)
    Grand Floridian (308 points)
    Animal Kingdom (200 points)
    Saratoga Springs (213 points)
    Old Key West (199 points)

Disney has created 5 seasonal tiers for the DVC point system. Feb. 3-10 falls within the middle tier. Here is a link to the points chart/calendar: https://secure.cdn4.wdpromedia.com/media/dvc/catalog/resorts/adventures/2018%20DVC%20BLT%20Pt%20Chart%20112716.pdf
