Have you ever been to the Epcot Food & Wine Festival? We are going for the first time this year, and we are very excited! :D However, the quantity of food & beverage choices is very overwhelming :surprised:

Have you ever been to the F&W Fest? If so, what were your favorite dishes? What dishes were not so yummy?

I was just reading this article on the Disney Parks Blog, and some of the items sound absolutely fabulous: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2017/07/9-dishes-you-dont-want-to-miss-at-the-2017-epcot-international-food-wine-festival-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

    1. Crispy Chicken with Griddled Cornbread and Red-Eye Gravy at the Farm Fresh Marketplace is the trifecta of Southern cooking.
    2. Sounds kooky, but the Teriyaki-glazed SPAM® Hash with Potatoes, Peppers, Onions and Spicy Mayonnaise is a winner in the Hawai’i Marketplace.
    3. The Bougatsa at the Greece Marketplace is ethereal: warm phyllo strudel with sweet vanilla custard, lemon honey syrup and cinnamon. East dessert first!
    4. The Madras Red Curry with Roasted Cauliflower, Baby Carrots, Chickpeas, and Basmati Rice in the India Marketplace is vegetarian, gluten friendly and delicious.
    5. Spain Marketplace gives us the perfect carry-around nibble: Charcuterie in a Cone with a selection of imported Spanish meats, cheeses and olives with an herb vinaigrette.
    6. Spain gave us another new favorite, the Sweet Olive Oil Cake with Powdered Sugar and Lemon Curd. Sublime.
    7. If you love the Cheddar Cheese soup at Le Cellier, the Warm Irish Cheddar Cheese and Stout Dip with Irish Brown Bread at the Ireland Marketplace will make you happy. Nicely pairs with the new Guinness Blonde American Lager.
    8. We’re fans of the Cauliflower Risotto with Pulled Chicken, Artichokes, Spinach, Parmesan Cheese and Aged Balsamic at the new Almond Orchard Hosted by Blue Diamond Almond Breeze. (They’re also pouring Dom Pérignon and Vueve Cliquot at this Marketplace.)
    9. Scallop fans will love the Seared Scallops with Roasted Corn and Butterbean Succotash and Chili-chipotle Butter Sauce at the new Coastal Eats Marketplace. They’re pairing the dish with a nice pinot gris from Oregon.

With food allergies, I am limited to which dishes I can get… but the rest of my family is ready to stuff their faces with all of the dishes that they can realistically eat at F&W. Your experience and tips will be huge in helping us narrow down which booths to zero in on!

We have been several times. Here is my suggestion: NO dining reservations that day. Ideally, go over two days and no dining reservations those days. Buy what you want from each booth and share it with everyone. You may end up only end up getting 2-3 bites but it allows you to sample so many more items. You will love it! Avoid Fri-Sun as it is REALLY busy with locals. You will love it!

I’ve never been either but I’m looking forward to weighing about a thousand pounds at the end of our trip! Good suggestions, thanks Ferg!

The good news is you are walking a lot of those calories off along the way. So you should only weigh about 800 pounds when all is said and done! LOL LOL :mbar: :churro: :dole: :turkey: :cupcake: :mint: :coffee:

Don’t even buy food at any of the usual restaurants. You can make a meal out of just the Food and Wine booths. The food tends to be either spicy or rich so that people will buy more alcohol.

Personally, my favorite is the Kefta Pocket from Morocco and (I’m unsure if this is returning and I’m too lazy to look it up) the Chicken Gyro from Greece. And who could forget the Kalhua Pork Sliders from Hawaii?    :mint: :turkey:

Don’t get the China duck. It’s too hot.

@Ferg Thank you for the great tips! We currently have a full day of no ADR’s and plan to eat lunch & dinner at the F&W fest that day. We also have 2 half days scheduled there… maybe to just snack? :turkey: :mint:

You definitely need to read Josh’s recaps on Easywdw of a lot of the past items, many of the items either don’t change, or change very little from year to year. I know you’re a fan of his too, and I appreciate that he isn’t like Disney Food Blog where EVERYTHING IS AMAZING!!!!

I personally loved the pork belly from the Brazil booth, and whatever special frozen slush they have in France is always on my list. If you are going to go two times, I would recommend one of those times being right when the World Showcase opens. Last year when I went with friends we did that, and we’d rotate who would buy an item and we’d all have a bite. We got to try so much that day because we were sharing with 4 people.

I agree with @ferg, definitely don’t make any dining reservations while you are there. Just use it as an opportunity to snack around and enjoy yourself!

@kcboston We literally posted 1 minute apart LOL

And you are SO RIGHT… I’m going to do a search on Josh’s site tonight. I remember his reviews from past years now that you mention it! Thats a good tip about sharing food items too… and the fact that France has additional slushies than their normal ones makes me very very very happy! :D

You might consider doing Future World until 11, then do World Showcase for a few hours, then back to Future World for a few more rides until you are hungry again. Then back to WS until Illuminations. Do that over two days and you should be set. Then your half days can be to go back and get favorites or anything missed or anything you loved so much you don’t want to share it anymore!

We got the Citrus Thistle (I think that was the name) from Scotland – Hennessy’s Gin mixed with something – and it was outstanding! I hope they have it for you this year! I am not a gin fan but this was tart and refreshing – it did not have a strong alcohol taste – we liked it so much we went back and shared another as it was a very warm day. I also recommend sharing – there were 4 of us and we each got 2 – 3 bites as the portions are good sized. We saved money and got to taste so much stuff. I am not sure if you are doing the dining plan, if so you can use your snack credits for most of the items. We did not do dining and ended up spending less than $150 all told including beverages. :) I did not think that was bad at all as we ate most of the day. Needless to say we were quite full by the end. :)

A couple good things I had last year…the Hawaiian sliders, the Belgian dessert waffle, the mac n cheese (Fresh? stand). Skip the Canada soup…mine was like a pepper explosion. Lots of pretty treats.

also, stick around for the concerts…usually there are seats left even after they let in the dining plan people. just stand close to the rope and when they drop it, go find a seat.

and if you are a chase visa person…there was a nice little lounge upstairs in America. all the pop you can drink and a nice relaxing air conditioned area where you can sit and charge your phone. :)

    @Ferg
was spot on in everything he said!!
Some of my favorites from last year and these are just what I can remember:
Pão de queijo: Brazilian cheese bread from Brazil
“Le Cellier” wild mushroom beef filet mignon with truffle butter sauce from Canada
Spicy Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Nori Rice from Hawaii
New England Lobster Roll from Hops & Barley
We always try to get one thing from each booth :)

That mac and cheese is one big thing that Lauren has requested. Can you give me an approximate location?

I have it under good authority that the Chase lounge is not happening this year. :(
