I might pop in every once in a while. I tend to procrastinate on books
December 30, 2017 at 10:07 pm #60838@missingwdw Colleen’s book have great love stories in them! She has this amazing way of weaving the stories & characters together. I’ve recommended her books to many people over the years and no one has been disappointed. Maybe Someday is mine & my sister’s favorite. I’d start with that one if I were you. Her style is young adult/new adult/contemporary/romance. Ugly Love has some smut but the others not so much. They are about the love stories. If you like Maybe Someday also try Hopeless & Slammed! Happy Reading!
December 30, 2017 at 10:10 pm #60839I wouldn’t expect y’all to pick a romance novel. I was only suggesting Colleen Hoover since she said she loves love stories. Honestly, I probably won’t participate. Right now I really don’t have time for it. I do love the idea of it. I’ll probably check in and see what y’all are reading and how it’s going.
I get it, I didn’t want you to think I was disrespecting y’all for liking those books that’s okay, you’re welcome to drop in, maybe read a book here and there if you’d like, or participate in discussion if you’ve already read something
Lol I didn’t think you were disrespecting me at all. Takes a lot more than that to offend me. Yes I may pop in every now and then. Do you have any idea what y’all will start with?

Okay good not exactly, I thought I would see how many people would even be interested and take it from there. I was thinking people could throw out suggestions of books they’ve been wanting to read, or genres that are favorites. Maybe each person could choose a book or a genre so everyone has some input?
December 31, 2017 at 1:08 am #60847I love reading. I’m in!
January 1, 2018 at 11:21 am #60928I would love to join a book club!
January 1, 2018 at 12:32 pm #60949Thanks everyone for the responses! I got a lot of positive feedback that I wasn’t expecting!
So next question is, how would you want to discuss the books? On a thread here? On Periscope? I think it would be hard to get so many people on some form of live platform like Skype, YouTube or Periscope, and the last two would require someone to host. I’m fine with that but it’s harder to discuss by typing words. A thread would still just be typing everything out but everyone could do that at their convenience instead of at a set time. Downside to that approach is people starting the discussion before everyone’s finished reading. We don’t want spoilers but also don’t want to move ahead and leave people behind. Thoughts?
January 3, 2018 at 3:39 pm #61276@missingwdw @disneybug Each to their own! I don’t personally like them (long story) although I did enjoy reading A Walk to Remember, but I’m thinking more that we may lose Ferg if we choose a romance novel
Yes, you would lose me but that’s OK. I’m sure there will be different books that people skip out from reading at different times for different reasons so if y’all want a romance, go for it! I’ll just take a break at that point because…..well…..because I won’t read it!

How about we pick a book. We all agree on the book. And we pick a date to have it read by. Then the “host” for that book can start the discussion the day after the deadline. If someone isn’t done reading by the deadline, they can just avoid the thread until they have finished so they don’t have any spoilers. But by setting a deadline, everyone would know the date it is OK to start discussing and have a goal to try and complete the reading by. Does that make sense or work?
Each book gets it’s own thread and then we start the new book/thread. I like the idea of discussing it here in d-cot. Others may join in as the months roll by and new people join the book club or even join d-cot.
January 3, 2018 at 3:49 pm #61278what about classics or books turned into Disney movies? Like “Wrinkle in Time” or “Alice in Wonderland”?

I think those are great and should be added into the mix. I think the bigger the variety, the better! Gives us a chance to read things we are naturally drawn to but also to branch out and explore things we might not otherwise read.
January 3, 2018 at 9:10 pm #61319@jamiedawn27 That’s a great idea! I was wanting to pick some Disney books and Wrinkle in Time is on my list!
@Ferg Great suggestions! I think I’ll go with that! I was wanting to get a mix of genres and I was thinking that everyone who wants to participate could choose a book each, that way everyone has input. We could agree on a deadline for each book too and I like your idea of the person choosing the book being the host and starting the discussion.January 4, 2018 at 10:18 am #61352I am not much of a reader, although when I do, it usually is on Disney park history

The Vault of Walt and the Revised Vault of Walt – Jim Korkis
Disneyland Then, Now and Forever (my favorite) – Bruce Gordon and Tim O’DayThere are other trivia books, hidden mickey tome etc. i grew up near Disneyland so DLR is a sentimental favorite. The last book gives a history of the park and the rides as they evolved. Really good book
