The Sound of Music and Other Musings

No, not the movie starring Disney Legend Julie Andrews, although the irony is not lost on me.
These musings are about that Disney Sound. It is quintessential Disney. Whether the parks, a movie, TV show, sound has been as important to the product as the animator or imagineer. What stands out to me are the chorale’s.  Those groups of people singing in sync with perfect balance.

When I mention the chorale what comes to your mind? The beginning of those Sunday night programs?   Color, Color, the world is a carousel of colorrrrr. Maybe it is the Voice of Liberty at the American Pavilion?

Sound has been a tool from the first sound picture. Simple toots from a horn on a black and white boat Captained by Mickey Mouse, to the new Harmonious at EPCOT or World of Color at California Adventure.
Additionally, you have the Sherman Brothers, Ashman and Menken, Danny Elfman.  You cannot tell the story without the sound. You can even go on YouTube to hear 10 hour loops of your favorite area queue music.

For me, it is right here at D-COT. The jukebox and all it delivers brings me back to the parks. They say that smell is among the strongest memory triggers. I would argue sound is as well. As I get older I hear a song and I am transported back to a place in time. Disney Music History has a plethora of memories for me. I think the strongest is the opening to Wonderful World of Color. Nothing takes me back to my living room rug faster then that opening verse.

If you are new here, I implore you to donate that $35 for the unlimited connection to your youth. You will find no greater value, and no better family on a Disney site.  And even though the turmoil that surrounds the Disney organization because of new leadership or politics has negatively impacted the outward perceptions for some, for me, I know the future is bright and holds more opportunities of sight, sound, and memories for all who have the patience to wade through these difficult times.

I am less then a month away from my 10 year anniversary here. I have been listening to park music, used Chelle’s services on numerous trips, and contributed, I don’t know how many articles, to this site, and I feel I just haven’t done enough for this place. It gives me sooo much.

Thank you Steve and Chelle for giving me a place, a place to wallow in the memories of my childhood, and helping me to create more with your family, and the family that you have created here.
