Rumor Updates (August 2019)

D23 brings updates and confirmation to several rumors including a look at the Play Pavilion, Lighthouse Point, Spaceship Earth, and more. Brazil could still be coming. The Incredibles might take over the Contemporary.

The landscape of rumors is forever shifting. In this monthly series, we’ll take a look at all the new updates to the articles pertaining around rumors. Thanks to the recent D23 Expo, there are plenty of updates!

The Future of Wonders of Life

The Future of Wonders of Life

In case you missed it, the Wonders of Life is transforming into the Play pavilion. At D23, it was announced to be open in time for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. Activities will include a water balloon fight with Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby of DuckTales and a game starring Edna Mode where guests help her rid the world of poor fashion. Besides the official announcements, the pavilion is expected to be a simple overlay of the interior. Windows are already being sealed up. Also expected inside will be a show similar to that of Goofy About Health. The spaces occupied by Cranium Command and Body Wars will remain unused.

Disney Looks to Purchase a New Island

Disney Looks to Purchase a New Island

Disney brought up Lighthouse Point during the Parks and Resorts panel at D23. Imagineer Joe Rohde has embarked on a cultural tour of the Bahamas and will aid in the construction taking place on the island. Construction is estimated to begin in 2020 with an estimated completion date of 2022 or 2023. Disney has admitted that they still need approval from the Bahamian Government on their environmental studies.

At the Disney+ panel, more details were revealed for The Mandalorian, showing it takes place after Return of the Jedi. Also announced was an Obi-Wan Kenobi series, rather than a movie. Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role.

World Showcase Expansions

World Showcase Expansions

Despite obvious signs and immense public recognition, Brazil was not announced as a new pavilion for World Showcase. However, in a now deleted tweet from the Mercyhurst Hospitality Management Twitter account (a division of Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania), they shared their pride for one of their students, Nate. Nate participated in the Disney College Program and is now in Brazil recruiting Cast Members for… the Brazil pavilion. The one that hasn’t been confirmed but might as well be at this point.

Instead of a Brazil Pavilion, we’re getting Cherry Tree Lane from Mary Poppins added to the United Kingdom pavilion with a Mary Poppins attraction included. No dates have been announced nor has an attraction type (show, ride, walk-through, etc.).

Grand and Miraculous Changes to Spaceship Earth

The refurb was acknowledged at D23. Most scenes will remain the same, but there will be new scenes and new narration. No dates have been announced.

New concept art was revealed for the Disneyland version at D23. Guests will enter through the El CapiTOON theater and the queue will house an exhibit by the Toontown Hysterical Society, displaying “props” from several Disney cartoons.

Beauty and the Beast Sing Along

Experimental Projection Camera of Tomorrow

D23 confirmed three new films will debut in January 2020. Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360 will take over the space formerly occupied by O Canada!, Awesome Planet will be placed in the space formerly occupied by The Circle of Life – An Environmental Fable and Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along will take turns with Impressions de France in the France pavilion. Wondrous China will replace Reflections of China. There has been no closing date announced for Reflections of China. The official Disney website has operating times listed through December 31, 2019, but these times are subject to change at any point.

Contemporary Incredibles

Where’s my Super Soup???

This rumor may be larger than just an Incredibles restaurant in the Contemporary Resort. Quietly before D23, two rooms all the way down on one level in the main building received a refurb. The carpet in the hallway changed in front of those two specific rooms, turning orange with a lowercase “i” hidden within. In between the two rooms was a panel featuring Elastigirl with a Monorail. A few days later, this was all taken down as if no sign of it had happened. This could be a dark sign for the Contemporary.

  1. CORRECTION: Wonders of China will not debut in January. Dates are unknown.

  2. I’m intrigued by the idea of an Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Ewan McGregor. The Disney Play pavilion sounds underwhelming. Looking forward to Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! :)

    • I’m very excited to see where it goes. I wouldn’t get hopes too high for the Play pavilion, it’ll probably mainly be little games. At least it’s better than letting Wonders of Life rot.

    • Yes, me too about Obi-wan :) and the Mandalorian looks really cool. but I am a true Star Wars geek so i will give them all a try anyway!

  3. Oh I was wondering how they were doing the Beauty and Beast SingAlong, I didn’t realize they would be alternating them. that’s fun. Hope they let you stay from one into the next :)

    • I don’t think they will. I think it would mess with their attendance count or something like that.

  4. So much wasted space in :wol: *shakes head*
Okay so I’m super confused now about this whole Brazil thing LOL
I think Mary Poppins and Cherry Tree Lane will be a nice and appropriate addition to the UK.
    P.S. – I of course love the Obi-Wan pic ;)

    • So Brazil is not confirmed by Disney, but it’s confirmed by everyone else. LOL Gotta love Obi-Wan
