I posted this a few years ago. I come and I go (this site). I still get excited planning every new Disney trip. The reality is that the planning and anticipation are days and days, weeks and weeks, months, and months longer than the magical trip itself. Today, just like yesterday, or yesteryear now, this site provides an escape, if only for a few minutes every now and again, that reminds me of those precious few days of Disney vacations long gone or yet to come.

I have had the opportunity to meet Steve and his young family , and we actually got to hang out for a brief couple hours a few Decembers ago.

So once again, I’d like to share the words from the past, as they still apply today. Thanks Steve…..

    Why D-COT. . .

I found D-COT while doing a Google search looking for Disney Parks background music. And did I find it! Unlike Facebook where you probably know all your friends, it’s probably not the case here. But, that’s okay. One of the cool things that I like to do when I’m at Disney is people watch. Not in any warped sense of people watching, but, rather watching how everyone enjoys Disney. (Except for those rare occasions when a parent is upset with a child, which always amazes me, but I digress). I’m probably like a lot of you, and telling by when most people are on, most of the time I visit while I’m at work. To break up the day. Play some Disney Music to escape the monotony of the job. To escape, even for a few minutes to Disney. Which brings a smile to my face. Also, going back a few words. . .to people watch. To see what’s being discussed on Mouse Chat. To see what’s important to the members at any given moment. To read new additions to the Forums. To learn something about Disney that I didn’t know, or to share experiences with others that maybe they didn’t know. To get advice and to give it. Also, to read about the bad weather North of the boarder (you know, from our Canadian pals, eh) :mickey:

I’ve only been coming here for about a year, but, in some weird sense it has become familiar. I have made new friends (pals), though to date I’ve only met Steve and Michelle. But, it feels like they’re (most of my pals that regularly visit) friends that I really know (is that weird?). I know when I log on that I’ll probably see Christnbnrd, Greg, Cmaister, Steve, Figment, Tinkgrl, Joncey, Peewee, Eric, Loriann, or even lately Mickeys_girl (if I didn’t mention you. . .sorry, those just came to mind at this moment).

I can checkout the photos and videos that everyone has posted. It’s like visiting Disney without leaving my desk. It’s a great diversion.

Lately, since the roll-out of the updated D-COT, there has been some uncharacteristic bashing and complaining, not by the “regulars (no snobbing intended), and it was kind of crazy, because I felt a little disappointed by the attitudes. that’s not what I come to expect here. I was glad to see that only lasted a few days. This site is probably not for everyone (I’m not sure why), but ,I’m glad it’s here.

Thanks Steve and all for being here!” :mickey:

Why D-Cot? Let’s see if I can put this into words… I answered this in the legacy forums I’m sure, but I’ll give another answer here

D-Cot is like my happy place away from my happy place. I love it for some of the same reasons I love Disney. It’s great escapism. The world can be harsh, work can be boring, life can be upsetting, but D-Cot is like a little bubble of Disney magic you can access from anywhere. It can make a sad day happy and a happy day happier :)

I get to talk to some great pals every day who totally get me. I’ve never met them but they feel like close friends I’ve known forever. It makes my day brighter to talk to like minded Disney folks. I love listening to the WDW tracks that take me right back. The forums are great for getting help, tips and advice from others, which is super helpful when planning your trip. I love seeing other people’s pictures from their Disney vacations, and getting excited counting down Disney trips with others.

D-Cot is a fun and magical place to be. Who wouldn’t want to listen to their favorite Disney Parks music every day and spend time with fellow Disney nuts? :ears:

Why D-Cot?! Because this is the next best thing to being at Disney! I originally joined, many moons ago, for the music! I slowly became more active on the site, participated in forums, and made “pals”. I can honestly say, I have no clue what I would do without D-Cot! Yes, the music is awesome! And it really helps to fill the void between Disney trips. But really, it’s like an awesome family here now!!! And not the crazy family members with lots of drama either! This is just such an amazing place! I love being able to share my trip reports and photos with everyone here. Because we all know those non-Disney friends of ours just don’t get the excitement of it all! I’ve also made some great friends on here and now have adoptive family members (Scott, Chelle and Steve to name a few). I know I can count on my fellow D-cotters when I’m going through Disney withdraw or having a rough day. So thank you Steve for creating this absolutely amazing community!!!!!!! :ears:  And thank you to Chelle for helping us book and plan our trips! :map: :mbar: And thank you Scott (Nascfan) for being my adoptive brother and keeping me on my toes and being Ryan’s and my cheerleader during our races and training!!

This site is my happy place. I do not do Facebook (fake book), Twitter or Other social sites because I find that anonymity brings out the worst in most. To be honest, I did not have high expectations when I stumbled upon this site. What started as a way to just listen to music from the parks has turned into a place I go to chat and socialize with lovely people daily. I work from home and having just moved to a new town, this little community of fellow “Disney nuts” (to quote starbee) has been a God send. Thank you all for keeping me up on Disney gossip, asking about my day and listening to my thanksgiving complaints.

Why D-cot? Well its simple. It’s a few thousand less to spend the week on D-cot than at WDW! LOL I’m being silly even though its true. Of course I wish I could spend every day at WDW but until I hit the lotto this is the best way I’ve found to match up. I’m very new here and much like Ed’s first post I’ve felt very welcomed at home since day 1. I’ve had a chance to meet some Disney personalities over the years Lou Mongello being the most famous and to me it was like being star struck! There could have been a player from the world series champs there next to him and I’d say look there’s LOU!!!! It’s not easy to explain to others what disney does to you or how it makes you feel but communities like this make it much easier to feel normal. So I thank you and will continue to support you. Happy holidays

This was something I heard about on another website. There’s a website I can go to and listen to my favorite Disney Parks music for free? No way! So I checked it out and started listening as I filled in the gaps between trips to WDW. The music has a way of figuratively transporting me there so I miss being there just a little less as I continue to look forward to visiting again. It was later that I realized I can play games and chat with people on the forums, but not just any people. People who understand what it’s like to be immersed in Disney and can’t wait to go back just like me! And this is the best part…we all may have different Disney tastes – things we like and things we don’t – but we appreciate our different opinions and views about the parks. We respect each other and enjoy our moments on here as we pass the time of some our more stressful or mundane moments outside the parks and I just love it! You all are the best pals I’ve never met!

To add to what Jet said, this site is somehow really special and unique. Folks are friendly around here, even when we disagree or have different opinions, we stand together as Disney fans. There’s friendliness and respect, no mean behavior on the forums or Mouse Chat. Before I found D-Cot I listened to Disney music on Reedy Creek Radio and used the DISboards for forums. The DISboards is not a nice, welcoming place like D-Cot and I got the heck outta dodge before too long. Reedy Creek Radio had great park music, but it was full of annoying ads, you couldn’t choose what you wanted to listen to, and they didn’t seem to have as much music as D-Cot has. I was welcomed to D-Cot with open arms and I’ve never looked back :ears:

Why D-Cot? There are so many good answers here and mine will probably echo a large portion of them. My daughter found this site while doing homework, to listen to Disney music during studying. At the time I was an active member of another Disney site but joined mainly for the music. It was wonderful and found myself here more and more and the other site less and less, especially as that site took an unpleasant turn against Disney, with people constantly complaining about anything Disney did and basically insulting anyone who thought anything Disney was doing was good. I became more active here, participating in the forums and eventually finding Chat in the Jukebox. I made friends here, true friends, and have had the true pleasure to meet up with Steve and Chelle and their kids several times. I was incredibly humbled and extremely honored when Steve asked me this past March to be a moderator for I have truly grown to love this place, almost as much to rival his I think. This community he has built has become as much a part of my life as anything else and I can’t imagine a day without it. The people here are the best and as said above always respectful even when someone has a different opinion than theirs. Simply put, this is home

Which site? I used to get on Intercot but got tired of how people conducted themselves. Someone on there discretely mentioned D-cot in some way and I switched over! I popped on there a few times after, tried to mention D-cot and the moderator blocked my posts! Said it was against their posting policies. Needless to say, I never went back! LOL
