By the way, just saw this! Dragon Challenge is closing for good. Will have to take that one off of our plans. We were going to ride at least twice — once for each track. No worries, will still be a great time!

@Starbee and anyone else who wants to help provide input on my daily plans…. I know nothing about Harry Potter. My daughter loves it as do some of the other family members with us. However, I appreciate it even if I don’t know what I am looking at. We were amazed at HP at IOA when it first opened and loved the ride and the theming of the land. It was amazing even though we didn’t “get” it. So hopefully the things I typed here that I have found make sense. I didn’t know what they meant but put them down anyway assuming it would mean something to the fans with us.

Here’s the background. We will be there for a wedding. First day is arriving on a Saturday at 2:00 and staying through 8:00 close. US closes at 5 and IOA closes at 8. No Express Pass for this date but we will have Express Pass for the other two days. Today we will ride the 2 big HP rides intentionally wanting to stand in the line so we can see and experience everything in the queues. On future dates, we will use Express Pass to ride these again.Touring Plans has a crowd calendar of US being a 5 today and IOA being a 4.

Saturday, October 28 – Universal Studios / Islands of Adventure / City Walk
    Remember to bring your tickets!
Goal: Arrive AT THE GATES of Universal Studios by 2:00 after parking, walking through the HUGE garage, walking through City Walk.
Get map and Show Guide for each person.

Interact with the Knight Bus conductor and shrunken heads (Diagon Alley).

2:30 – Watch The Tales of Beedle the Bard on the Carkitt Market stage (Diagon Alley). Lasts 11 minutes.

Ride Harry Potter And The Escape From Gringotts (Diagon Alley). Lasts about 5 minutes. If you need extra legroom, request the 3rd or 6th row. All bags must be put in one of the lockers before getting in line. Enjoy the amazing queue while in line!

3:30 – Watch Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees (Diagon Alley) in the Carkitt Market area. Lasts 13 minutes. If we don’t finish the ride in time to see this, there should be one more show at 4:30.

Go to Ollivander’s and watch the wand selection experience. (Diagon Alley).

Get butterbeer ice cream (or another flavor if you prefer) from Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour (Diagon Alley). Eat it while walking around to do next step.

Explore Diagon Alley including its architecture, stores, and some of the following in any order:
    • Find the record shop outside of Diagon Alley. There is a nice hat tip to Jaws in the window!
    • Exchange money (if you wish) at The Gringotts Money Exchange where you can get Gringotts bank notes and interact with Banker. You can spend this money in Diagon Alley or keep it as a souvenir. Also, be sure and talk to the goblin!
    • If the phone in the red telephone box is working dial 62442 (MAGIC)
    • Visit Knockturn Alley. Near the Leaky Cauldron and the Fountain of Fair Fortune. If you can’t find it, ask for help to find it. Open the door with an eye.
    • Listen at the vanishing cabinet in Borgin and Burkes
    • Stand outside 12 Grimmauld Place and you’ll see Kreacher open the curtains every few minutes
    • At the Magical Menagerie Shop if you stand outside the window it will speak to you in Parseltongue and then English.
    • Check out Magical Menagerie. Look up towards the ceiling and you’ll find a Kneazle and a Crumple-Horned Snorkack
    • Take a peek at the giant snake in the window closest to the bathrooms next door outside of Magical Menagerie.
    • In Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions
o Stand in front of the mirror
o find Hermione’s Yule Ball Dress and Dumbledore’s attire
o ask a witch or wizard about the items in the case to the left of the cash-wrap (as you are facing it)
    • Take a peek in all the windows and store doors
    • The dragon breathes fire every 25 minutes. You will hear a grumbling first which is a good time to focus your camera.

4:45 – Ride the Hogwart’s Express at King’s Cross Station (Diagon Alley) to Islands of Adventure park. (Be sure we got our stuff out of the lockers!) Lasts 5 minutes.

Get a map and show guide.

Depending on time, ride first or watch the show first.

Ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Hogsmeade). Don’t rush through the gallery in the line. Stop and listen. Do this at each place. Let others pass if need be but don’t skip the various things you come across in the line this first time through. PUT EVERYTHING IN THE LOCKERS including EVERYTHING in any pockets! You will lose everything out of your pockets if you don’t put it ALL in the lockers! Lasts 5 minutes plus all the stuff in the line.

6:00 or 7:00 – Watch Triwizard Spirit Rally. (Hogsmeade). Located in an alcove between Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff. Lasts 6 minutes.

Experience Poseidon’s Fury (The Lost Continent). Lasts 25 minutes. Closes at 7:30. Short people go up front.

Explore Hogsmeade and include the following, in any order (NOTE: We will have time tomorrow to finish exploring so if we run out of time, that is OK):
    • Shop at Honeydukes.
    • Get a beer from Hog Head’s Pub. Dragon Scale is a light lager while Wizards Brew is a dark porter.
    • Check out the Owlery across the street from Hog Head’s Pub. Watch for the bird poop!
    • Check out the Owl Post. You can get a Hogsmeade Postmark on your mail here if you want. Look up in the rafters to see more owls.
    • Check out the Forbidden Forest
    • Check out Hagrid’s Hut
    • Shop at Fitch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods
    • Great photo opp to get castle in background of a selfie is at the end of the village and to the left is the bridge to Jurassic Park.
    • Shop at Dervish & Banges. Also look for the Nimbus 2000, 2001, and the Firebolt on display. Also, get close and check out the Monster Book of Monsters on display.
    • Go into the restroom and listen – you will hear Moaning Myrtle.
    • Find the Dogweed and Deathcap window
    • Find the Madam Puddifoot’s window
    • Find the Spintwitches window
    • Find the Tomes and Scrolls window
    • Find the Ceridwen’s Cauldron Shop window
    • Find Dominic Maestro’s Music Shop window
    • Gladrag’s Wizardwear has the actual movie costumes on display
    • You can see and hear a Howler near The Owl Post and maybe in Dervish & Banges

Exit the park. Find dinner at City Walk. Consider:
    • Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food. Be sure and get tableside guacamole and the esquites asados (roasted corn). Quieter dining upstairs.
    • Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar – burgers, sushi, and sushi burgers.
    • Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville
    • NBC Sports Grill & Brew – 100 beers on tap. Has a famous 7 layer banana cake that serves 6-8.
    • Pat O’Briens. – just like the one in Orleans. Serves Cajun food. If you order a hurricane, it comes in souvenir glass. You can ask when ordering for it not to otherwise you have to turn the glass back in and request a refund. Has dueling pianos in one room. Has outdoor courtyard as well.
    • Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Kitchen Feast – We MUST eat here at least once! Large varied menu. Famous for the milkshakes and chocolate almond bread.
    • VIVO Italian Kitchen – very good reviews for classic Italian food.

If I don’t respond for a few days, it is not being ignored or unappreciated. We just have a full calendar over the weekend. THANK YOU, anyone and everyone who helps!

This really bums me out :'( Dueling Dragons was incredible, so innovative and well done. A smooth, thrilling ride like you will never find anywhere else. Unfortunately, stupid guests who insisted on filming themselves, wearing flip flops and other inconsiderate things created a spike of alleged injuries in the first year of the ride’s operating under the Harry Potter brand, and so, the dragon would intentionally be dispatched one at a time to avoid the dueling (its whole purpose) and reduce the risk of injury. In addition, the metal detectors were installed. At that point this once unique ride lost its edge, and so I guess with the success of Harry Potter and the ride’s location in Hogwarts they decided that creating something new under the HP brand was the only option. Very sad. Even more sad that I will be there just 40 days after it permanently closes

I know what you mean, I read the first Harry Potter book and didn’t care to read any more. I saw the first movie and the Quidditch bored me to death and I didn’t watch any more movies. So I don’t really have any idea what’s going on in the HP areas, but I can still appreciate how well done it is and the rides are still a lot of fun! Forbidden Journey is my favorite. You really can hear Moaning Myrtle (in the women’s restroom at least, I can’t speak for the men’s :p ) and it’s creepy!

I like the sound of your Touring Plan! There is a ton to explore in the Harry Potter sections and it looks like you’ve got that covered  a couple of suggestions: be sure to check how long the locker at the Harry Potters rides are free. The time will change based on the wait time for the attraction. For example a 20 minute posted wait means the lockers are free for 30 minutes, a 30 minute posted wait means the lockers are free for 45 minutes. If you pass your time, you’ll have to pay to get your stuff back. Also when getting the Hogwarts Express to IOA, you might want to check if your Express is good for that ride. If not, I would suggest getting there at 4:30pm not 4:45pm because with the park closing at 5pm, you might not make it. Also, ride the train from IOA to USF at some point too if you can. It’s a different ride in each direction

Toothsome is so awesome I can’t say enough good things about it! If you’re a beer fan, try the chocolate stout, it’s so good! If you’re not sure like I wasn’t, ask for a sample. They were happy to do that for us! Poseidon’s Fury is an extremely clever show, blows my mind every time! I have no idea how they do that! It’s a lot of fun! It’s a walkthrough show, there is no seating, so make sure everyone in your party is able to stand for the duration of the show. I think it’s worth it! Sindbad’s show is fun too (that one is stadium seating).

Thank you for the tips! We will watch that closely on the lockers. Don’t want to spend extra cash. We are for sure riding the train in both directions. Just not on that first day.

Excited to see all of the shows at USO and IOA! And I will get the chocolate stout! Sounds awesome. I don’t need a sample. I KNOW I will like it!

Here’s Day 2, our first full day. IOA is open 9am-8pm. We WILL have Express Pass (not unlimited but the regular one where you can ride once per day with it) for today that is good at both parks. Touring Plans says that IOA is a crowd level of 2 and USO is a crowd level of 4. Express Pass should get us to do a walk on for most rides.

Here’s the plan. Please let me know thoughts and ideas! Appreciate all of the help!!!!!

Sunday, October 29 – Islands of Adventure / Universal Studios / City Walk
Remember to bring your tickets, ponchos, and water shoes!
Goal: Arrive AT THE GATES of Islands of Adventure by 8:00 after parking, walking through the HUGE garage, walking through City Walk. The park is scheduled to open at 9 but often opens at 8:30.
Get map and Show Guide for each person.

Ride The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman (Marvel Super Hero Island). Lasts 7 minutes. The ride is wild, but smooth. Don’t use Express Pass unless the line is long. Save it for a second ride later. Center of the second row is the most stable for grandfather.

Ride Skull Island: Reign of Kong (Skull Island). Lasts 6 minutes. Sit in rows 7, 8 or 9 even if we have to wait extra time for the next vehicle. Don’t put on the glasses until the first interior screen and take them off after the 360 projection tunnel. Fine for everyone but is scary!

Ride Skull Island: Reign of Kong a second time using our Express Pass. (Skull Island). Lasts 6 minutes.

Line up for the Raptor Encounter (Jurassic Park). It will open at 10:00. It is just outside the Jurassic Park Discovery Center. Give the photographer one of our phones to get a picture for us. We should also take a selfie with the dinosaur. Lasts 3 minutes.

Spend some time in the Jurassic Park Discovery Center (Jurassic Park) exploring the exhibits. Before leaving, ask about the egg hatching if it hasn’t happened during our visit. Lasts approximately 15 minutes.

Check out the peaceful waterfront terrace and view behind the Jurassic Park Discovery Center. (Jurassic Park). Lasts 1 minute.

Use our Express Pass to ride Jurassic Park River Adventure (Jurassic Park). Lasts 9 minutes. Fine for everyone. You won’t get very wet if you sit on inside seats and not the front row. If you are concerned, use a poncho.

Ride The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman (Marvel Super Hero Island) with our Express Pass. Lasts 7 minutes. The ride is wild, but smooth. Center of the second row is the most stable for grandfather.

Use Express Pass to ride One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (Seuss Landing). You can avoid most of the spraying fish by going up or down at the right time. If you pay attention to the color of your vehicle and listen to the song played in the background, you can (eventually) figure out when to move your fish. Lasts 4 minutes.

11:30 – watch Oh! The Stories You’ll Hear! (Seuss Landing, between Cat in the Hat ride and One Fish Two Fish ride). Meet characters afterwards, if desired. Lasts 9 minutes plus meet and greet. If raining, it is performed in Circus McGurkus Café Stoopendous.

Enjoy lunch at Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade). Get butterbeer here and keep an eye on the roof for a ghost shadow!

Use Express Pass to take the Hogwart’s Express from the Hogsmeade Station to the King’s Cross Station (Hogsmeade). Lasts 5 minutes.

    Get maps.

Ride Men in Black: Alien Attack (World Expo) with our Express Pass. Aim for the eyes! Lasts 5 minutes. Fine for all.

Ride Revenge of The Mummy (New York) with our Express Pass. Lasts 5 minutes. Grandfather should skip this today. After riding, grandmother can determine if he can ride tomorrow.

Ride Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon (New York) with our Express Pass. Lasts 7 minutes. Good for everyone.

Ride Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket (Production Central) with Express Pass. Lasts 4 minutes. Not for grandfather. Choose the style of music you want before it starts! (51 inch min). Can be a rough ride.

Ride Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (Diagon Alley) with Express Pass. Put everything in lockers first. Lasts 4.5 minutes.

Ride Hogwart’s Express from King’s Cross Station to Hogsmeade (Diagon Alley) with Express Pass. Lasts 5 minutes.

Change into water shoes (flip flops or sandals) and get ponchos. Put all backpacks, phones, papers, wallets, EVERYTHING other than our Express Passes into lockers. Keep the ponchos before locking the lockers!

Ride Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls (Toon Lagoon) with Express Pass. Lasts 7 minutes. Good for everyone. Watch the water cannons as walking off at the ride exit!

Ride Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges (Toon Lagoon) with Express Pass. We will get VERY VERY wet. Roll pants legs up under the poncho if not wearing shorts. Lasts 7 minutes.

Located right behind Me Ship, the Olive area is a twisting and winding walkway to explore. The pathway turns and curves, leading you around Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges. You can enjoy watching the ride, as well as observe those who have discovered the water guns located on the Olive. Along the water’s edge, you can spot some cute themed details, like the School of Fish and the mailbox for some of the characters in Popeye’s world.

Go back to lockers, change shoes, toss ponchos. There is a human dryer that costs money, if needed.

Ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Hogsmeade) with Express Pass. PUT EVERYTHING IN THE LOCKERS including EVERYTHING in any pockets! You will lose everything out of your pockets if you don’t put it ALL in the lockers! Lasts 5 minutes plus all the stuff in the line.

Ride Flight of the Hippogriff (Hogsmeade) with Express Pass. Probably fine for everyone. Lasts 3 minutes.

4:00 – Watch the Frog Choir show (Hogsmeade near Flight of the Hippogriff). Lasts 10 minutes.

Get a frozen Butterbeer to go.

4:30 – Watch The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Stunt Show (Lost Continent) with Express Pass. Lasts 20 minutes.

Spend some time interacting with The Mystic Fountain (Lost Continent). Lasts 10-15 minutes.

Explore the pathways and bridges behind Mythos (Lost Continent).

Ride Caro-Seuss-el (Seuss Landing) with Express Pass. Lasts 2 minutes.Ride The Cat in the Hat (Seuss Landing) with Express Pass. Lasts 6 minutes. Good for everyone.

Ride The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride (Seuss Landing) with Express Pass. Good for all. Lasts 6 minutes. There are two different tracks and story lines. Make sure we all get on the same one and make note of it so if we choose to ride again later, we can choose the opposite one.

Check out the path along Sneetch Beach (Seuss Landing). You veer off of the main path to your left if coming from entrance or to the right if coming from Lost Continent.

Ride Doctor Doom’s Fearfall (Marvel Super Hero Island) with Express Pass. (52 inch min). Lasts 2 minutes. Maybe not OK for OE.

Ride Strom Force Accelatron (Marvel Super Hero Island) with Express Pass. Lasts 4 minutes. Not good for anyone with any kind of spinning or motion sickness.

Ride The Incredible Hulk (Marvel Super Hero Island) with Express Pass. Put EVERYTHING in the lockers and completely empty all pockets of EVERYTHING other than the express pass. (54 inch min). Lasts 2 minutes.

If not done exploring Hogsmeade, do so now (SEE BACK PAGE) Otherwise, repeat favorites or ride the other “track” on the Seuss Trolley.

In line by 7:59, we get to ride!

Before exiting, check out the Port of Entry Plaza. First there’s the bi-level central plaza that leads right up the water’s edge. Here you can see it all. To your left is a curving pathway that gets you close to Hulk Coaster. To the right, you can scope out the loading dock of the former boat attraction, Island Skipper Tours, and hear the bickering crew inside the whimsical yellow submarine.

Exit the park. Find dinner at City Walk. Consider:
    • Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food. Be sure and get tableside guacamole and the esquites asados (roasted corn). Quieter dining upstairs.
    • Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar – burgers, sushi, and sushi burgers.
    • Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville

    • VIVO Italian Kitchen – very good reviews for classic Italian food.

I’m glad you’re allowing for plenty of time here. You’re right, walking from the parking garage to the gates alone can take 30 minutes and now they have extra security, which I don’t disagree with. EVERYONE will go through the metal detector and bag check if you have bags. They are very efficient, but still it’s a thorough check so allow time for that. Yes the park does often open at 8:30am, great plan to get there ahead of time!

Ride The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman (Marvel Super Hero Island). Lasts 7 minutes. The ride is wild, but smooth. Don’t use Express Pass unless the line is long. Save it for a second ride later. Center of the second row is the most stable for grandfather.

Ride Skull Island: Reign of Kong a second time using our Express Pass. (Skull Island). Lasts 6 minutes.

If it were me, I would hit up Kong first, then either use your Express or go to Spider-Man and then back to Kong. (More walking, but better use of the Express, plus guilt free snacks later ;) ) Everyone heads to one of two places at park open: The Hulk because it’s immediately on your left, or to Kong because it’s the newest attraction. Although the crowds are low, when we were that at almost the exact same time last year (October 21-28) Kong still picked up quickly because everyone is going there first. By that I mean, 30-45 minutes in the first 30 minutes to hour. Will it matter that early in the morning when all you’ll do first is Spider-Man? Maybe not, so feel free to stick to what you have. I don’t want to sound pushy, just my thoughts. You may be looking at 15-20 minutes by the time you get there, which really isn’t bad, just don’t expect to walk on. That was our experience after riding Hulk, then Kong at 8:30am.

Yes!  if you’re into the movies, the Discovery Center is incredible! It’s so screen accurate it’s like walking on to the set! So much fun! The egg hatching is impressive too.

This is adorable and the characters are so much fun!

Enjoy lunch at Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade). Get butterbeer here and keep an eye on the roof for a ghost shadow!

So many good things to eat!!! By the way, for the fall only you can get a warm butterbeer. It’s sooo good! It tastes different to the cold and frozen butterbeers.

Ride Men in Black: Alien Attack (World Expo) with our Express Pass. Aim for the eyes! Lasts 5 minutes. Fine for all.

This is another ride where you will be required to put everything up in a locker. It’s possible to lose things out of your pockets and there is no storage for items in your ride vehicle. You won’t be allowed to join the line unless your stuff is up. When they made this change, I didn’t realize and made it through the preshow when I got told to leave the line to go put my stuff up. Learn from my experience ;) on a happier note, if you’re serious about scoring some points I can give you a whole boatload of tips, if you so desire :smirk:

Ride Revenge of The Mummy (New York) with our Express Pass. Lasts 5 minutes. Grandfather should skip this today. After riding, grandmother can determine if he can ride tomorrow.

Another one where you’ve got to put your stuff up. This becomes a pain in the patootie, but these rides are so worth it!

Ride Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon (New York) with our Express Pass. Lasts 7 minutes. Good for everyone.

This ride has a new queue technology (I don’t know how it works) where you get given a time to return that’s the same as the posted wait time. So if it’s 45 minutes, you come back 45 minutes later, but you don’t have to wait in line. You might get a second ride out of it by doing that and “waiting” while you go ride something else or eat lunch.

quote quote=41894]Ride Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket (Production Central) with Express Pass. Lasts 4 minutes. Not for grandfather. Choose the style of music you want before it starts! (51 inch min). Can be a rough ride.[/quote]

Be sure to choose your song quickly or it will choose for you :note:

Change into water shoes (flip flops or sandals) and get ponchos. Put all backpacks, phones, papers, wallets, EVERYTHING other than our Express Passes into lockers. Keep the ponchos before locking the lockers!

I can’t remember if I mentioned this already but the lockers for the water rides are not free

These are so much fun! You’ll get soaked through to your underwear but it’s worth it! If you have anything you need to store, there’s space in the middle of the barges under a waterproof cover, so you could for example take your shoes off at the last minute.

If you want you can also go to the top of Me Ship the Olive. Inside is a kids’ play area but there’s nothing to stop you going to the top deck and looking out. And there’s more water cannons :smirk:

Spend some time interacting with The Mystic Fountain (Lost Continent). Lasts 10-15 minutes.

This is fun! You may get wet ;)

Explore the pathways and bridges behind Mythos (Lost Continent).

Yes! So pretty! Great picture opportunities.

This ride is super cute and fun! I hope you get to ride both tracks because the storylines are different and what you see is different.

Check out the path along Sneetch Beach (Seuss Landing). You veer off of the main path to your left if coming from entrance or to the right if coming from Lost Continent.

This is really cool to see! Super cute with tons of nods to the books

Ride The Incredible Hulk (Marvel Super Hero Island) with Express Pass. Put EVERYTHING in the lockers and completely empty all pockets of EVERYTHING other than the express pass. (54 inch min). Lasts 2 minutes.

Yup, this is another ride where you go through a metal detector. But it’s so much fun!
