Oh wow, bummer! Is that permanent? I thought Terminator was one of their headliners. That really stinks, I’m sorry
It’s a hard pill to swallow because my trip is so close! If I wasn’t going to Orlando this year, I’d think, “Well that sucks but there’s nothing that can be done” but instead I’m sat here like “I have a trip 1 week after T2 closes, 1 month after Dragon Challenge closed, and 2 months after the closure of the GMR and Ellen. How did I get so doggone unlucky?!” I just wish I could have experienced everything one last time y’know? Why do they have to close everything so quickly? Especially in Disney’s case where you know they’re not going to touch it for a good long while. I think they just want to create hype and extra merchandise sales :hmmph:
September 29, 2017 at 12:31 pm #50458I actually heard this a few weeks ago. I should have said something but was in such a Harvey funk, my brain just wasn’t working. I am really sad about this one. I don’t remember a ton about it from when we last saw it. I remember a motorcycle, sunglasses, lots of guns, and thinking it was really cool how they blended all kinds of things together in this show.
On the bright side, it opens up a little more time in the schedule to explore more Harry Potter stuff or catch some street shows that we’ve never seen. Maybe you can plug a new show into that hole in your schedule and find something new and fun to experience for the first time.
It’s been rumored for a while but you can never trust rumors. You remembered all the important points I found it incredible because it was so immersive. I really felt like I was at Cyberdyne Systems and loved the nods to the movies like you being in the Miles B. Dyson Memorial Auditorium. They put so much effort into this attraction. It used cutting edge film technology when it was made, it was written and directed by James Cameron and brought back the original cast. The actors in the show were so believable as the characters and I to this day have no idea how they walked in and out of the screen! Plus the seat drop got me every time! I really don’t want another 3D ride like Spider-Man and Transformers, they’re well done but two is plenty and it sounds like Fast & Furious is going to make 3
The only up side is I was worried 3 days at UO was just not enough time. We were there for 6 days last year and I wasn’t ready to leave! I guess having less attractions now will help me not feel so rushed? :|
September 29, 2017 at 1:19 pm #50461September 29, 2017 at 1:20 pm #50463Do we know what they are going to put there?
I will be at Universal in February for 4 days!
We will have some great pointers for you!!
September 29, 2017 at 1:30 pm #50472Do we know what they are going to put there?
I will be at Universal in February for 4 days!
It won’t open until 2019. The official email I got from UO said it would be replaced with “an all-new live action experience based on a high-energy Universal franchise” which I guess crushes the rumors floating around that it would be a permanent Walking Dead attraction like they have in Hollywood. That’s been rumored for a while
Hmmmm oh wow! I guess while I’m there it will just be an empty building then. I wonder what Universal franchise they are going to do????
September 29, 2017 at 1:42 pm #50476And yes, we only have 2.5 days and US closing at 5 for HHN each of those days so I have been struggling to get it all in as well! That’s why we bought Express Pass. I’m ready for them to post the show times for my week so I can finish up my plan!
How is your plan looking? Will you ride anything new or see a show you’ve never seen?
Will IOA at least be open until 7pm or so those nights? Usually they stay open later to compensate for the early closing of USF. You should totally stay for HHN I really think you’ll come pretty close to doing everything with your Express pass, even some things twice!
I need to get my plan together the crowd calendars haven’t really been helpful so I think we might start at least two days at USF because it opens earlier so we can get a couple rides in before transferring to IOA. I love how easy park hopping is so if one park does get too much we can change. We are attending HHN (we have Frequent Fear passes) so we’ll be in the holding pen late afternoon.
Jimmy Fallon wasn’t open on our last trip, it was still under construction, so I’m really excited to ride that for the first time! Everything else we’ll do I’ve done before but that’s okay because I love it!

Yup, empty building. They may be working on the facade. I can’t think of what it would be, so many big franchises are already in use, or I just can’t figure out how they’d make it a show. It’s weird because when they closed Twister, they announced the replacement pretty quick, same with when they closed Earthquake/Disaster, but lately they’re keeping quiet about the replacements for Dragon Challenge and T2.

Yes, IOA is open until 8:00 all three nights so that is good! We aren’t doing HHN. There are 9 of us from ages 11-75. While everyone else is getting murdered and chased, we will be eating and drinking on City Walk!
We have a whole list of things we will do for the very first time and I am really excited about every single one of them!
Gringotts ride and that whole area
Hogwarts Express
Park Hopping at USO
Transformers Ride
Kang & Kodo’s Twirl ride
Despicable Me
Jimmy Fallon ride
King Kong ride
Frog Choir show
Triwizard Rally show
Oh The Stories You’ll Hear show
Raptor Encounter
Beedle the Bard show
Celestina Warback show
Marilyn and Diamonds show
Sing It show
Beat Builders show
Flying Fish Market show
The Parade
Eating at City Walk (all 3 nights!)
Simpsons Food area
The new HP restaurant
That Alcatrez bar
Doctor Doom’s Fall ride — it was there in the past but we never wanted to wait in line for it. But since we have the pass, we will try it this time! And yes! You need to get your plan together! LOL! I am a HUGE planner!
Since you have park hopped, I have a question. Our first day, US closes at 5 and we plan to be in HP area and then hop to IOA HP area. We won’t have Express Pass that first day as we want to stand in line for the 2 main HP rides to experience the lines themselves and the rest of the time, just explore the area. So without Express Pass and right at closing, I am guessing the line may be a good 30 minutes to catch the train. Would it be any faster to walk out of HP in US and walk all the way to HP at IOA? Or would that probably take 30 minutes as well so might as well wait in line (Note: we will hop again with Express pass the next day so this is really about transportation more than the experience)

I was just being facetious :p I get scared sometimes at HHN but seeing how many people are even more scared than me is hilarious! I saw a grown man scream and fall on the floor in one house last year I for sure would not recommend it for children, but I see them every time I go without fail. I understand some children, especially older children like 10-12, may be able to handle that but I’m talking I see 4-5 year olds and even babies. I think their long term therapy will cost a lot more than a babysitter :p one kid last year was in front of me with his parents and screamed the whole time “I want to get out! I want to go home! I don’t like this!”
September 29, 2017 at 3:13 pm #50491Those are some awesome new things and I’m excited for you! Can’t wait to hear what you think! I love Doctor Doom so much! It’s kinda like Tower of Terror in reverse Do you know where you’ll be eating yet at CityWalk? I am so excited to eat at Toothsome again! By the way, you can so easily split their milkshakes between two people, maybe more. Hubby and I couldn’t agree on a flavor to split last time so we each got our own – big mistake! Neither one of us could finish it!

Disney make you plan so much these days, I really enjoy winging it at Universal. I have where I want to eat picked out but no ADRs. I also have my list of “must do’s” to make sure I get done but no in-depth plans really.

Good question! I think it’s very likely that the line could be long with people trying to park hop before they get kicked out. If the line is 30+ minutes I think they’re likely to cut the line at 4:30pm so you would need to be in line by then to ensure you’re riding. Hubby and I can be at Cabana Bay from USF in 30 minutes but with a group your size I would say getting from Diagon Alley to IOA would likely take you 30 minutes. If the line is that long and you get there before they cut the line, I would take the train because either way you’re spending 30 minutes getting from one place to another. A wait time less than that will of course get you there quicker but with a line longer than 30 minutes, you’re better off walking. You don’t want to waste your time with all the stuff you plan to do!

I can’t imagine taking little kids to that! They would be terrified! I would have fun with it, but there are many in our group that would hate it. Maybe people think it is like the Disney Halloween Party? Surprise!

We are for sure eating at Toothsome! We haven’t decide on the other two nights between Antojitos (but we may not do this one being we have Mexican food that outnumbers gas stations in Texas), Cowfish, Margaritaville, NBC, or VIVO. How about you?

Thank you! This is very helpful! I don’t think we will be ready to leave at 4:30 as we will only have just arrived around 2:00ish so we are hoping to ride Gringotts in stand-by, then do Ollivanders, see one of the shows, and explore. So we will probably stay all the way until 4:55! HA! But that is helpful to know that it is a 30 minute walk so we can judge between the two if the line isn’t closed off. I am building in some more exploring time the next day as I imagine we want at least an hour to explore that doesn’t include rides or shows for each HP land.
September 29, 2017 at 4:12 pm #50495We have been watching movies that are tied to the rides as part of preparing for our trip! There are so many our daughter hadn’t seen! Here is what we have seen thus far:
E.T.
Shrek
The Mummy
Incredible Hulk
Fantastic Four
Despicable Me
Jurassic Park
King Kong: Skull Island
Men in Black
The Lorax
Popeye
Spiderman
The Tonight ShowWe still are hoping to find time to watch:
all of the Harry Potter movies
Rocky & Bullwinkle
Transformers
Cat in the Hat (we have read the book so it is last on the list)We will skip:
Blues Brothers (I think it is R and she is 11)
The Simpsons — she has seen who they are, etc.September 29, 2017 at 4:40 pm #50503I can’t imagine taking little kids to that! They would be terrified! I would have fun with it, but there are many in our group that would hate it. Maybe people think it is like the Disney Halloween Party? Surprise!
Right?! They advise children under 13 not to attend but maybe these parents are calling their bluff? :p
