Coronado is their business resort; smart move to add to it. I think I’m one of the few who enjoy this resort.

The kids really enjoyed it when they stayed there in January ’16. They said it was really nice.

I love Coronado, I’ve stayed there twice and loved it both times. It’s so centrally located, it doesn’t take long to get to any of the parks from there.

So I’m excited about them adding some new stuff there, because that rooftop area sounds amazing, but what concerns me is the pool area. We’ve found the feature pool to be pretty crowded there, and adding so many rooms can’t help but add to that. It would be nice if they would add a secondary feature pool to take some of the stress off the main pool.

From reports I have read elsewhere, there seems to be more to the CBR renovation/addition, than what is mentioned in DPB…
I, for one, do not feel completely optimistic about the changes there…

I have never stayed at Corodado, so I have no vested interest. From a business standpoint, it is a smart move for the most part.

More and more it appears Disney is backing away from the theming and ambiance that made the resorts unique, and “Disney”. If they Coronado update is successful, it may be the death bell for Disney resorts as we once knew them.
I’m starting to think I may be the minority in this opinion, but I could stay at a plain hotel anywhere in Florida… At Disney, I want to be taken to somewhere and immersed in a story.

You’re not, I will always be biased in favor of this resort since I got married there ;)

Okay, having read the article I’m not sure how I feel about this. The resort is already huge, I don’t know why they would need to add 500 extra rooms. I’m glad the current rooms will be refurbed because I think they need it. I’m concerned about how this giant “tower overlooking Lago Dorado” will affect the landscape overall. It’s already so pretty! They have a great mix of lake, beach, and gardens, I hope whatever they do will improve and not take away from this beautiful resort.

I’m sure it is cheaper to add a new building to an existing resort than to make an entirely new resort, but it’s been how many years since they added a new resort? I would rather them create a new one than expand the current ones…like Kelly said, the pool is already crowded and you add 500 rooms to it? Um…no. Why not create another family style resort (meaning cheaper suites like AoA) themed off of Star Wars and near Hollywood Studios? That would be EPIC.

True, but I’m wondering is there really a need for 500 more rooms at CSR? And of course there’s the crowding like y’all mentioned. I like your Star Wars resort idea! :leia:

I’m right there with you on this. And there are rumors of a tower going in at CBR as well. Part of the appeal is the ambiance of the resorts. I would likely not be such a fan of CBR if it were not for the immersive feel it has.

Disney is long overdue for a new resort (even though if anything were to go up it would likely be another DVC resort), and I find it hard to believe that they could not do it in a profitable fashion. There are enough fanatics out there that would keep a new resort jam-packed even in the slowest of weeks at the ‘World. Further, you cannot tell me that they cannot come up with a good theme for a new resort.

A Star Wars resort would be epic, but I could understand not wanting to make a resort based on a single movie/franchise… especially one that is not original to Disney. But, there are plenty of untapped themes out there that could be used easily; especially with the new, more bland approach to rooms & lobbies.

I am just patiently awaiting the moment the imagineers are finally set free to begin a WDW renaissance.

I’m with you there. What I love about the Disney resorts I’ve stayed at is they don’t feel like hotels. You can stay at any hotel, Orlando is flooded with them. But Disney’s resorts take you away to a whole other place. Even if there are thousands and thousands of people, most of the time you don’t see it. The theming and layout creates an extension of the park. Slap a great big tower in a resort, kill the landscape, and voila, you have a hotel like any other in Orlando. What’s the draw to stay there then?

I hate to say it, but in terms of resorts, Universal Orlando is kicking Disney’s butt right now.

Like several of you have mentioned, I’m usually optimistic about the new expansion ideas, but I’m not sure about this one. The idea of adding a higher guest density to a resort by building a tower seems to make sense from a $ perspective, but I wonder about the sight lines from HS and Epcot. This, plus the rumor of a skyway gondola transportation system makes me worried that the experience of the value and moderate resorts will become less of a retreat into an immersive themed experience and instead become more of a homogeneous metropolis with some nod toward theme to differentiate the various resorts. I’d rather see investment into a completely new resort and improvement of transportation by creating bus-only lanes around the property with the ability to upgrade to semi-autonomous bus transportation when the technology appropriately evolves.
