Will you stop going if nothing changes
Purely hypothetical: if the "new normal" becomes the permanent normal and face masks are forever required, parades eliminated, meet and greets become a thing of the past, among other current re-opening restrictions, will you forever be done going to Disney parks?
- Yes
- No
- Not sure, would decide as a family

I have plans to visit WDW during Halloween week and, so far, I have no intention to cancel if it’s open. We’ll just have to see how it goes and if they make me wear a mask, I’ll just have to grin and bear it. I’m not going to pass judgement until I see how things go for myself.
June 16, 2020 at 7:45 am #135308Tough question, but a great one at that! We would definitely decide as a family. But seeing how involved @Chelle and I are with Disney, I think we would continue to visit the parks. If this was the way Disney had to be (no fireworks, parades, meet-and-greets, etc), then I think a reduction in ticket prices would be nice to see.
June 16, 2020 at 8:05 am #135309We, as a family, have discussed it, and we are 100% ok with wearing the masks and visiting WDW parks. We will be getting our Universal and Disney annual passes very soon!
June 16, 2020 at 9:28 am #135314It’s a weird question for me, because wearing masks doesn’t bother me, and the idea of keeping distance from people is wonderful in my eyes
We are getting to the point where a lot of the things that they have taken away (parades, meet and greets, etc) weren’t of interest anymore. She’s 10, and when we go she doesn’t want to wait in line to meet a character anymore, or stand shoulder to shoulder to watch a parade roll by. She wants to do the rides, have some snacks, and head back to the hotel and hang out at the pool. We didn’t have a trip planned anytime soon (just not in the budget), so I’m happy to hang back and see how everything plays out for a bit before we make any decisions
June 16, 2020 at 9:39 am #135316I think that’s tricky, because there are a lot of factors involved. Would I go by myself because I get in for free? Sure. Would I pay for APs for my family and have everyone wear masks no meets, parades or fireworks? No. Like Steve said, pricing is a huge factor. Young children are a factor too. If the stuff they like is gone, and we have to fight to keep masks on them, with regular prices, it doesn’t make sense.
June 16, 2020 at 10:07 am #135319AMEN @starbee, can we just call it the “current normal” or “current situation”? I mean, it rains at the World, we put on our ponchos and trash bag rain coats because it is raining, but once it is over we take them off (lest we sweat to death!) and go about our merry way, it’s not the “new normal.”
On the other side could this lead to allowing masks at MNSSHP? Unfortunately I would bet not.
Great analogy and yes, I like those terms yeah I think MNSSHP is incredibly up in the air right now, as is my annual pilgrimage to Halloween Horror Nights over at Universal. I don’t see how those events can go ahead without masks but it poses a risk to guest safety if masks are required. Who knows what they’ll do.
June 16, 2020 at 10:41 am #135321for my family of 5 to fly from Iowa and stay for a week it costs $10,000-12,000 easy. EASY. no way on God’s green earth am I spending that kind of dough to not have the full experience. everything better be open and i don’t want to wear a mask, have to get a reservation to get into the park, be forced to stay at one park all day, wait twice as long for everything from bathrooms (will every other sink or stall will be closed? it was at Costco), to food (every other table means less seating and more waiting), not to mention rides (every other row). The magic will be 100% gone for me. I am still so terribly bitter with how this whole reopening thing happened and the awful customer service I have gotten. Disney is not my happy place right now.

I don’t blame you one bit! And I feel the same about the money. Maybe I’d give it a shot if I were a local with an AP, if it sucks you just leave, but I’m not wasting my hard earned $$ and precious little vacation time from work. I’ve had that happen before, pre-COVID, where we had a trip that was a pretty bad experience and it took me a while to want to go back. I don’t think this is something that we have to learn to live with, not by a longshot.

bexruns374 XPI’d still go but that said, I don’t think we’re going to try and go for quite some time. James made the comment that we should try to get reservations for when the park re-opens (not like RIGHT away) just to enjoy it with low crowds. That said, if this becomes the new normal, I think we’ll just deal with it. Sure masks are inconvenient but if its something we HAVE to do, we’ll do it. I ‘m not going to lose my mind over it.
June 17, 2020 at 2:22 pm #135390If this really did become the new and permanent normal for Disney Parks (particularly WDW), I would have 2 deal breakers. 1 is the cost. Unless they scale it back, I just couldn’t justify it with all that missing magic of fireworks and even having some kind of barrier between me and cast members of any time. It just seems so impersonal. Don’t get me wrong, I care deeply for the Cast Members so I understand the protective measures, but eventually I think we need to get rid of these physical/social barriers for our own emotional/mental well-being.
The other deal-breaker is definitely the face masks. As it stands right now, you leave your private room and your mask goes on. I CAN imagine that in the summer heat since we’ve been hit with a dose or two of it in Maryland already. Summer is prime time for us to go to Disney due to my wife’s teaching schedule. Doing all that walking with a mask on in the heat would cause us both some health problems. Christy moreso because she gets headaches if she doesn’t get a proper air flow during physical activity.
So I’m sorry to say, if this all became permanent, we would have to say goodbye to Disney parks. That said, I have serious doubts that ALL of it will be permanent.

Disneydana12 XPI can hardly get through a haircut in an air conditioned building let alone stroll outside in 100 degree or even 75 degree temps. The masks are a complete deal breaker for me. Yes I’d like to visit just to see the low crowds but I won’t. The whole stay in one park thing seems like a Utilitarian Society kind of thing to me and I see no real reason for that. It’s just weird. I don’t think the parks should be opening at all if it’s going to be like this because…I mean, are they really open? The saddest part for me is that people will wander back to Disney with zero price cuts and therefore Disney will have no reason to even bother. We hold the power to make things like this happen if we only protest with our pocketbooks. We never do. We gladly hand over our paychecks and somehow think that Disney deserves it. lol Like I said, weird. I’ve found that there are so many other really cool places to visit for half the cost and more cruises and trips to other countries are where my money is going these days.

Bravo!! My sentiments exactly!! I see more cruises in our future and less park visits…
