    I’m moving this over to forums from my status :)

    Just curious – for those who book their Disney vacations through DRC (not DVC) and do NOT use a travel agent, may I ask why?

    I know some people are “scared” of TAs, but I’d love to understand WHY :D Is it because you think you aren’t in control? Scared to get “scammed”? Love to plan yourself?

    Before OTN, I always used a TA. I would find the best rate for what we wanted and then called a TA to book it for us. It’s win – win! We got the rate we wanted (or better w/ on board credit, etc) and the TA got a kick back for booking! So, I always went through a TA.

    No reason for the suppliers to keep ALL the money lol (Disney have enough of our dollars! LOL) It was nice to help out a small company TA AND still get the good rate and the little extra peace of mind that I had a TAs help if needed. :up:

    So I rarely would have had an opportunity to use a TA because I rented points a lot before we bought into DVC. For me, the planning is a big part of the fun and excitement. Also, I will admit that I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to my trips, I do a lot of tinkering with my daily plans before they are finalized, so I feel like I would drive a TA batty!

    I don’t use a TA because I’m DVC. This year we didn’t buy tickets direct from Disney either.

    Not necessarily just Disney TA – just TAs in general.

    Many people seem to think they “lose control” over the reservation which is not true. The only thing the TA MUST do is take payments or make package/room reservation changes. The planning is completely all yours if you choose to do it yourself! :ears:

    @nascfan
    and @eeyorepoohfan are big planners but they still use a TA! :heart: If not solely for supporting a small business but also for the promo release day LOL.

    Yeah – DVC can’t use TAs and they get discounts on APs as well. :up:

    We’ve never taken a trip long enough to require a TA but if we ever did-I would definitely use one. I need the help because they would know better than I would what is the best value and what the best options are. I’d see the first thing and just go with it. LOL

    My dad ALWAYS used a TA when he’d plan out our vacations. He’d go into AAA with the route mapped out and the list of things he’d want to make sure we did/saw and the TA worked with him to get him the best hotels and packages for the side trips we’d do.

    We have a local Travel Agent here that does other things in addition to Disney trips, but is an official Disney travel agent. I really liked working with her because she would also do our flights, which came in handy on our last trip when our flight out was cancelled, and there were many changes made to the new flight we booked…she kept it all straight for us. However, she is unable to help us out this time with my parent’s trip, so they just called Disney to book everything themselves. For our next trip (which is a surprise for my husband), I booked the flights myself, but will be using a Disney Travel Agent to book the rest of it. I just can’t book yet, because packages aren’t out for 2018.

    So I had never used a TA before meeting @Chelle on here! We seriously don’t do much traveling other than Disney! Chelle books all of our WDW resort stays. We are AP holders, so it’s just a room booking. But she watches out very great deals for us. She’s booked us under a standard sale but will switch our reservation to the AP discount once those are released. It really helps us to save money but she saves me tons of time being on the phone with Disney to change a reservation. I like to be in control and do all of our Fast Passes and any dining we might book. We’ve booked at least 6-8 Disney trips with Chelle already and she will book all of our future trips as well! She takes great pride in what she does and is a wealth of information!

    I think based on quite a few of the responses there seems to be a stigma attached that people lose control when they use a TA. We make all our ADR’s ourselves, book all our FP’s ourselves, do everything ourselves including research the resorts we want to stay at and make requests of buildings, even floors of a building with Chelle. All she does is the grunt work, so to speak. She sits on the phone when discounts come out, saving us hours of time and gets us the lowest price possible. If we should have trouble getting a hard to find reservation, she has come through for us. She did book ADR’s for us one time when we were at WDW when our 180 day window opened and that was a godsend. We are very much Disney veterans and I still won’t book without her. I understand people not wanting to use a TA that charges extra, there is that cost factor with some others. I know DVC can’t, and that’s understandable also. But all in all, if the TA accepts the commission from Disney or wherever as their payment I see no reason why not to use one if you can.

    My wife and I have never used a TA before and decided to look in to using one with our upcoming trip. We both worked at WDW so have always felt more comfortable doing things ourselves. So before I contacted the TA I priced the whole trip myself (staying on property, travel, and tickets) then reached out with the same information. The quote they provided backs was maybe $20 less than what I priced it at. I figured I would rather do it all myself and spend the extra $20 to know everything is taken care of.

    Awesome! Love to hear this! Make Disney give some of all those dollars to a small business!! :heart:

    I will never live that one trip down!!! People, seriously, don’t use Priceline!!! I had to call them and Disney directly a few times to get my one reservation squared away! They somehow only put it down as just me and my hubby was missing off of the reservation. They finally got that squared away and a few weeks later I checked my WDW app and it showed me with two rooms for two people each! Another call had to be made! I couldn’t get my FP’s booked until that was all worked out either! I promise to never use anyone but you Chelle! I pinky swear!!!!!!!!!!
