It’s back, and yes — James Earl Jones is Mufasa.

I just can’t. I don’t see the point in this movie at all. How is CGI any different from the original animated version?

This doesn’t appeal to me at all. It feels too realistic, not fanciful and “Disney” to me.  I’m getting real sick of these remakes too…

This is gonna be great! Not just any remake it’s actually a classic Disney film that’s trying to tie into the next gen, based on Disney-nature production. Much like the True Life Adventure series of The African Lion. The king has returned.

I have such mixed feelings on this one. This was my daughters absolute favorite growing up, and she would watch 3 times in a row if you let her. She is not happy at all with the remake. I have to say, her argument is pretty good.

This is a nice charitable thing they’re doing, during the first week the film is out.

So we watched the Robin Roberts special on this last night. I was truly fascinated by the first part where they talked about the creation of the animated Lion King, how hardly anybody thought it was going to be successful, many didn’t want to take it on, and the full scale changes it went through from development and storyboards to production. I wish they would do shows like that for many of the movies including Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Pocahontas, and so many others! I would be all in to watch those kinds of behind the scene shows! Just fascinating stuff to learn!

beyonce dropped a new album inspired by the lion king! i’m normally not a beyonce fan, but this album slaps  the album is supposed to be a “love letter to Africa,” and there’s interludes between almost every song with dialogue from the new movie.

    UGH
Finally saw Toy Story 4 last week.
    Hated it.
Had high hopes for Lion King, which we saw last night.
    Hated it.
The entire movie just fell flat. LOVED the opening scene, and thought THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
    Yeah, no.

I have no intention of going to see it, but I’m curious, why was it so bad?

Although the animation was strikingly real, it made it impossible for the characters to emote any real expression. It’s much easier to draw, and except, expressional changes on a “cartoon” animal than one that is digitally produced for realism. You’re not going to see anguish or elation on an African lion in the wild, and you’re not going to see it in this movie either. It definitely effected the feel of the movie. And the Lion King is a movie with A LOT of feel!
And the acting just couldn’t hold a candle to the first one. It wasn’t that it was terrible, but it just fell flat throughout the movie. The one-liners in this movie between Timon and Pumba were meh. And Scar just didn’t have as strong of a menacing presence. I mean, who can beat the voice acting and singing of Jeremy Irons from the first movie?! I’ll tell ya who, NO ONE!!!!
The cast in the first Lion King is impossible to beat. I don’t think they were trying to beat it in this version. The movie was a little different this time around, but it wasn’t strong enough to stand separate from the first. I just couldn’t wait for it to be over.
The next day I watched the original movie to purge the new one outta my head
    :P
I wouldn’t even pay to rent it. Wait till it’s on cable.
