This September, my family and I have booked a Preferred Room at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort. :ears: The Preferred room location, means that the rooms are located only in the Alligator Bayou section. I have only stayed in the Mansion section previously at POR, which was so beautiful and fancy and I loved it!

I have never personally wanted to stay in the Alligator Bayou section because the rooms look so rustic with the log cabin type beds. We booked the Preferred room location because my dad is coming with us, and he complained so much last year about the long walks to get coffee at CBR … ok so maybe I complained a lot about the long walks too LOL

Has anyone here stayed in the Preferred Room location at POR before? If so, how did you like it?

Here is a picture that I found online of the Alligator Bayou rooms:

We stayed there once but we had a car so distance to anything was a non issue. We prefer the French Quarter side. Much smaller resort especially without a car. Hopefully all goes well with your trip!

We stayed there last August, in a non-preferred room and loved it! We are staying there again next month (again, a non-preferred room). Something to keep in mind, there is an internal bus that stops at all stops. So if you opted to not do a preferred room, you could wait at a bus stop for an internal bus to get you around to the food court! It seemed like they came through about every 10 minutes or so. There are only 4 bus stops at Riverside, versus 7 at CBR! But this has become our favorite resort! We were in room 8035 near the North Bus stop. It was such a perfect location! It was right at the transition from the Alligator Bayou rooms to the mansions. Our section of the building was brick and looked like a town home row! We loved the theme of the room too! It was a short walk over the bridge the Ol’ Man Island, then over a bridge to the food court. It was seriously a five minute walk for us. Keep in mind that CBR is one of the largest on property and is very spread out! We stayed there in January and felt those walks too!

When we stayed in the mansions years ago, I also think it it was Magnolia section now that I think about it. Is that the building right across the bridge from the Ole Man Island?? And you’re so right, the mansion section was so pretty

I love the French Quarter. You’re so right about the smaller resort being so great!

Here are pics from our room. We did a Garden view room so that we weren’t stuck looking at a parking lot.

Thats great to know about the Internal Busses! That would make all the difference in the world I’m sure. When I stayed at POR years ago, we stayed in the mansions, so I’ve never even really been in the Alligator Bayou section to look at the layout. From the maps online, it looks HUGE though! I’m glad that you liked the theme of the room, and that you had such a great stay! It makes me feel better! :ears:

To put the size in perspective, we have run the trail through PORS over to POFQ and it’s just over a mile for that full loop! Whereas CBR was nearly 1.5 miles around the lake. So the map looks big, but most sections are just the one building deep, besides a few clusters in Alligator Bayou. But that section is really not a huge portion of the resort. There are a few bridges that you can cross over and walk to. So if you wanted to save a little money off the preferred pricing, you can opt for a garden view room and use the internal buses (as long as you don’t mind waiting a little for them). And I’m not positive if the internal bus goes to POFQ as well. I feel like when we stayed there, we saw an internal bus (but there is only one stop in POFQ). We actually liked PORS better than POFQ. Our room felt much better themed and much fresher! Our room at POFQ felt like it was in need of a refurb. But we absolutely loved the grounds over there. My hubby and I fell in love with PORS once we got there. It just had a great calming feel to it! Our friends stay at the Alligator Bayou frequently since they have 3 kids and those rooms are the only ones with the pull down bed option. They absolutely love staying in that section. So I don’t think you will go wrong! Come on and hurry up September (for you)!!!! And the end of April for me!!!!

We love the preferred rooms at POR. We have 3 of them booked for this coming May!! I have requested buildings 14 or 18! I have stayed in 27 and loved that spot too!

I really love the look of both those room types! We’ve only stayed at Port Orleans Riverside but I want to stay at French Quarter sometime! I love NOLA!

POR is my home away from home! I love it there. I’ve stayed in those Bayou rooms a couple of times; they definitely have a rustic theming, but I thought it fit so well with the feel of the resort. Anyway, I love the nearness to the food court area! We were also close to one of the quiet pools, which we enjoyed. Honestly, I may be in the minority, but I’d choose the bayou room again in a heartbeat!
