For those who have seen the work that has been done and is still being done to the Wilderness Lodge, do you believe it’s positive? We stayed there last May and found a very large percentage of the hotel was being converted into time shares. There were also cabins being built on the shore of the lake blocking the view of many rooms. I understand that time shares are profitable for Disney but it appears they have jumped the shark in their pursuit of time share money. We refused to stay at the WL on our trip scheduled for this May. Why did they have to ruin a great hotel?

From a DVC owner perspective, I always saw Wilderness Lodge as a smaller, quainter resort (on the DVC side), and you could typically book a stay without much trouble. That has changed dramatically now. I do like some of the changes, like the new Geyeser Point Bar & Grill, but I’m not a fan of the cabins, which would require a second mortgage to book!!

I love CCV and think they are beautiful.

WL used to be my favorite resort, but the amount of buildings they’ve constructed on property has made the whole “wilderness” aspect a bit of a paradox. Unfortunately it lost a lot of points with me because of this.

I still think it is a beautiful place to escape and feel like your in a place of yesteryears. I also am not a fan of the lake front cabins here or at the poly. However if I was to get them for a free stay I would not say no. I am a DVC member and still think its the best bargin if you go to Disney alot. So to answer your question yes I would stay here again and yes all the new construction is awesome and beautiful except for the million dollar cabins on the water.

I find WL’s theming nice, but really have lacked interest in staying there. The vibe was pretty cold and sterile IME, and did not have the warmth found at the Poly. However, with the changes going on property-wide; I’m finding more and more that the magic is being sapped away, and the resorts turning into “regular hotel’ experiences.

We just stayed at Copper Creek, or whatever the new one is called in May and stayed at the Villas last March. I was SO ready to really dislike all of the changes and curse DVC for horrifying my favorite resort and home away from home. However, if anything, it probably made WL more inviting and enjoyable for us. I still haven’t decided about liking the Copper Creek villas, but they did have advantages as do the Bolder Ridge.

We thought the theming was outstanding. We attended a couple of events at the Reunion Station. We ate at the Geyser restaurant. It was all great.

So while Animal Kingdom Lodge moved up during the construction, WL has still hit the top spot.

I had a similar experience to AKVDale … we fell in love with Wilderness Lodge years ago, and when we bought into DVC, we considered the villas there, but didn’t like them, so bought into AKL instead. Now, 10 years later, we tried CCV & love them, and WL still feels very much like it did when we fell in love with it!
