Hey everyone, I’m looking for ways to save up money for our trip. I currently have a separate savings account I’m putting money into, but was wondering what you guys n gals do to save up money.
It’ll probably be at least two years before we can go again, so we have plenty of time to save up.
June 8, 2018 at 10:30 pm #79329do the meal plan! it’ll save you money in the long run.
June 8, 2018 at 10:31 pm #79330oh and try and go sometime when the meal plan is free! i know its usually free at the end of august and sometime in december before christmas week
June 9, 2018 at 11:38 am #79355I also have a separate account for my Disney trips set up!
Instead of asking for gifts for my birthday or Christmas, I ask for cash. I save it for my next Disney trip and it helps pay for souvenirs and food. I also have a Disney rewards credit card. You can earn points using that as well. Every little bit helps!
June 9, 2018 at 12:06 pm #79361Buy gift cards at Target using a redCard (credit or debit), you will save 5%.

June 11, 2018 at 8:39 am #79653are you trying to save money to get there, or save money while you are there? or both?
June 11, 2018 at 8:46 am #79655Mostly trying to save money to go. We actually do pretty well once we get there. We currently have the Disney Visa, so that helps out with souvenirs in the park.
June 11, 2018 at 9:01 am #79656Using the Disney Visa and then using the rewards points for paying for things helps. A couple other items that may help. Buying gift cards throughout the year like Scott mentioned above, or we have Kroger stores here where we can get 4 times fuel points. We use my AAA Visa card to purchase them which gives us double cash back on all grocery purchases. We use the discounted fuel to help daily expenses and then the cash back towards the trip. Gift cards purchased plus the cash back really helps.
Also, we have a change jar. At the end of the weekend any change from pockets goes into that jar and later gets turned in for bills. Also any change from paychecks goes in there. We use that towards trips. You may be surprised at how quickly that can add up, especially if both you and your wife do that. These are in addition to what you are already doing, which is a great start.June 11, 2018 at 11:53 am #79681One of the things I do is I put any “found money” directly to my vacation fund. If I find money in my coat pocket, or I spend less than I had budgeted on something, then that money goes right to the vacation fund.
You can also do things like Shopkick or Swagbucks, depending on how much time you have. Shopkick is an app that gives you points for walking into certain stores, and additional points for scanning products in stores. It’s not going to pay for a whole trip, but it gives you a little bit for doing things you’d be doing anyway!
June 11, 2018 at 12:13 pm #79687My sister has good luck with the Dave Ramsey way of doing things.
We have a pretty tight budget here – pretty much the only wiggle room to change things is the grocery bill. I do things like buy bulk ground beef at BJ’s and package it up into individual pounds, same with chicken. We already mow our own lawn, clean our own house, I do my own nails, etc. etc. etc.
June 11, 2018 at 12:35 pm #79692Shopkick rocks! I have a $25 GC in my account right now! Also ibotta! They don’t give Disney ones, but you can get walmart or target ones, which you can use to buy WDW gift cards!
June 11, 2018 at 12:57 pm #79701I use Ibotta all the time.
June 11, 2018 at 1:08 pm #79703What is Ibotta? I’ve never heard of it @metalmama @jcbelle827
June 11, 2018 at 4:10 pm #79760My parents purchase Disney gc’s at a discount through their Sam’s Club membership. I don’t know offhand how much the discount is, but if you’ve got a membership there or Costco, it’s worth checking to see what you can get.
