Ok D-cotters, I need your help. Since the buzz on the street is that WDW is slowly becoming Marvel World I need to start watching some of these movies so that I’ll know what’s going on in the rides for future trips.
I did see the original Spiderman, with Toby Maguire I believe?, but I need to know how I should watch the current, or fairly current ones.
Are they all a continuation/branch off of one another? For example, does something like Captain America lead into Thor and I won’t know what’s happening if I don’t watch them in a certain order?
Are there any that are mutually exclusive? Like, could I watch the Guardians movies without seeing the others so I know what’s happening when they open the new ride in Epcot?
I know there are a lot of folks here who watch or have seen all or most of them so any help you all can provide is most appreciated.

I’m pretty sure there’s this whole timeline that places all the movies in chronological order (but I don’t pay attention to it).

It may be helpful to watch them in the order they came out, but Guardians of the Galaxy would be fine on its own since they have a separate story line until Infinity War.

Thanks Stephen! I’ll have to research how they came out.

Jamie, I’m very serious. I’m going to need to know what’s going on as they change over to more Marvel rides and attractions if I want to keep enjoying trips. Thanks for the timeline, that should help with how to watch the movies.

Yeah i think you can watch the movies and skip the TV shows…hopefully that helps and gives you a goal! the timeline is pretty cool cuz they slip in new movies as they come out and sometimes they are further back that you know (notice GotG2 is before Captain America Civil War!)

I need to get the newest Thor.

As other have said, watch them in order that they were released…. make sure to watch the bonus scenes after ALL the credits… some are kind of important and some are just hilarious.

That article is simultaneously awesome and overwhelming!

Some movies connect with others for sure. I feel like Iron Man 3 and Civil War depending a lot on viewers seeing previous films. Others don’t interlink as much. Agents of SHIELD ties in a ton, but if you don’t watch that the movie still makes complete sense, that’s more backstory if you were curious. If you want to be in the know ready for the EPCOT attraction, I say start with Guardians of the Galaxy and watch the sequel. I don’t think that will ruin other movies for you if you watch them later and by not watching other movies, you won’t be at a loss with Guardians because it’s really it’s own thing. Just my opinion :)

Thanks @starbee! That sounds good. I definitely don’t have time for the t.v. shows, nor would I know what network to find them on so I think I’ll start with the Guardians movies like you recommend. I’ve heard they’re really good and contain quite a bit of humor too, so I’d really like to see them.

There’s just too much out there, you’ve got to be picky. I think Guardians is a good place to start  it’s not like the other Marvel movies and it’s hysterical! But to answer your question, Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC, I assume the others do too but I don’t know. It’s also on Netflix.

As someone who is a Marvel fanatic I would say follow that article but you can 100% skip the shows. It’s more side stories that sometimes have to do with the movies but not always and is definitely not a requirement.

And yes, stay ALL THE WAY THROUGH the credits. I mean to the very very end. Some movies have mid credit scenes, some have end credit scenes, some have both and some have more. Always worth it.

Here’s the complete list to date and my comments. I chose to list them outright because if it’s not on this list, it doesn’t tie in to what Disney is doing (for example, the X-Men films are not linked to what Disney is doing right now):

I also agree with starting at Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, but then I’d start at 1 and work your way through from there.

    1. Iron Man (2008)
    2. The Incredible Hulk (2008) The one with Edward Norton (who is later replaced by Mark Ruffalo) NOT the one with Eric Bana, avoid that one at all costs :P
    3. Iron Man 2 (2010)
    4. Thor (2011)
    5. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
    6. The Avengers (2012)
    7. Iron Man 3 (2013)
    8. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
    9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) – If you choose, watch Season 1 of Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D before this one, it brings a lot of depth to what happens in this movie
    10. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
    11. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
    12. Ant-Man (2015)
    13. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
    14. Doctor Strange (2016)
    15. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (2017)
    16. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
    17. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
    18. Black Panther (2018)
    19. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
    20. Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

The day Disney becomes more Marvel than the Fab 5 or REAL Disney attractions will be the day I stop going!
