Wednesday we woke up super early (6:30am) to go get breakfast at the Palmetto Bay Sunrise Cafe :)

After we got there, we realized we could’ve brought Maverick with us, but he’d have been bored and tormented since he wouldn’t be allowed to do anything but sit there and watch us eat ;) Christy and Mom both ordered the special, Blueberry and Cream Cheese stuffed French Toast. Dad got a typical eggs and pancake breakfast with sausage. I ordered the Banana Rum Pancakes. These were 2, whole plate sized pancakes and based on the name, you’ve probably already figured out that they tasted terrible [read as heavenly] ;) Christ still raves about the blueberry and cream cheese stuffed french toast! It was a fantastic breakfast and if I had that place closer to home, I’d probably go there every week for breakfast. Many locals seem to do just that before work (and if the locals love it, it must be good!)

When we got back to the condo, I took a nap (still not a morning person, even with a good breakfast). Early in the afternoon we were about to venture down to the beach and just as we exited the condo, thunderstorms began to roll through, so we stayed in. It cleared up around 5:00 and since Mom had volunteered to make dinner, Christy and I went for a bike ride.

Most folks rent bikes at Hilton Head, standard 1-speed cruisers because the price is quite reasonable, $30/bike/week in some cases. We brought our own down – Mountain bikes. Now of course HHI is quite flat with TONS of bike paths and you can bike on the hard-packed sand of the beach too! So really Mountain bikes are kind of over-kill, but it’s all we own, and for some reason, other cyclists seemed to be jealous :surprised:

Christy and I decided we would bike along the main highway toward the north end of the island and then bike the beach back. This turned out to be too ambitious. When we were ready to cross to the beach, we realized we couldn’t due to having private golf club resorts being between us and the sand that went on for a couple of miles in either direction. So we biked further north until we could cross. Also a mistake. When we got to the sand, we biked a bit with the wind at our backs which was nice until we encountered a rather wide and deep constantly flowing stream cutting through the sand to the ocean. So we had to get off and carry our bikes across the “torrent” and get back on. Tired, we finished the journey home on the sand. The whole excursion took an hour and a half. Our butts were not used to sitting on bike seat for that long and were so sore!

We came home hot and sweaty, but to a nice spaghetti dinner. Needless to say we relaxed the rest of the evening. We took Maverick down to the beach again to play and swim, and finished out the day with the Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies.

Breakfast sounds well worth getting up for! Sorry about the thunderstorms but nice that you got to take a bike ride. You earned that spaghetti dinner! :surprised:

Biking in HHI is great, but next time we’ll probably be less ambitious and invest in more comfortable bike seats ;)

I love your start to the morning!! That breakfast sounds heavenly!!!!! Glad you got your nap in again! Way to get that bike ride in even if it was more ambitious than you had planned! I’m sure the scenery made it more tolerable! I’m sure people were jealous of your mountain bikes because you had suspension!! Yea for Maverick getting more beach time!! A good movie to end your day!
