Heather/Dopey Challenge – 1/4/18-1/10/18 – Day 3

So cold! Soooo cold! So…..Cold!
Saturday 1/6/18
Alarm goes off. For the briefest moment I wonder where the heck I am and what is going on! We got ready, dressed in our warmest clothes, we’re talking thermals for Kathy, t-shirt for me, sweatshirts for both, coats, hats/hoods, scarves, gloves, you name it. Full on winter! It, was, COLD! We caught the first buses for the unofficial D-Cot meet before the Half! We found Heather and Ryan and Teri and then @nancyg and @msmurphy together, the hugs that followed were awesome! I was so happy to meet “the sisters”! Then we were able to find @croaker (Sam) and his family! What a great meet up it was! So much fun to see everybody! We got some good pictures and then they made their way to the very cold corrals while we got in line to meet Kathy’s Dopey! We timed it perfectly as they shut the line off just behind us! We were the last to meet him! We walked over to the monorail station and hopped on to the TTC. While on the monorail we saw the hand bikers and lead runners on the road. We switched to the TTC-MK monorail and road it twice around to warm up! When we stayed on at MK a cast member asked if we were ok, we said we were just warming up. They understood!
We finally got off and found a spot at the train hub right in front of Tony’s. We found out we were right by WDW Radio people. They were very nice to chat with while we waited for our people and told us to go right up to the rope when our people were going to be coming. Waiting for our people on that cold concrete, my knees really started to feel it. We saw that some people had brought pieces of cardboard to stand on, veteran spectators obviously, and genius ideas! We saw Teri and Ryan come through and gave them high fives and then our girl came by! We gave Heather and big hug, got a quick picture and sent her on her merry way! Finally we saw Nancy and Sue come by! We got great hugs and a picture with them too! We then left and took the monorail over to Epcot for the finish. Ryan and Teri got by the finish without us seeing but we got to see Heather finish! We went to see her after she got through the tents and gave her big hugs! Three races down, one to go! We were able to find Nancy and Sue eating their boxes of food after their finish. Everyone did a great job! We all headed back to our resorts, the runners for showers and us for a nap! I have to say here, I love how the buses take the back way out of Epcot to the resorts! Pop is so close to Epcot that way! We were home in no time.After a rest we went on to Magic Kingdom while they recovered a little more. We rode Dumbo with minimal wait and Under the Sea with very little wait. I got a surprise button for me to wear for Heather, an “I’m Celebrating..” button and I put Heather as what I was celebrating! It made a great conversation piece with cast members as they would ask who Heather was and so I would tell them about her running the Dopey! Then we took the train from Fantasyland to Frontierland when Heather texted saying they weren’t going to make it for the Splash FP and to use it. Aww man! I wanted to ride with her especially since Kathy rides it now! Oh well, in the future. She also said they were starving! And frankly so were we! So after we rode Splash we all met up at Pecos Bills, along with Teri and family for some delicious tacos! So good and lots of food! We rode 7DMT with our FP’s and then Jungle Cruise with FP. Sadly Nancy and Sue couldn’t make it to Jungle Cruise to join us. ☹ I was really hoping they could since we listen to the queue music sometimes together on D-Cot. We did get to meet up with them as we exited though! That was nice!
Us, Heather and Ryan, and their niece all hopped to Epcot where we met Heather and Ryan’s chiropractic friends and all of us rode Spaceship Earth together! That was a lot of fun! They were ready to go grab some race fuel dinner with their friends and Kathy and I wanted to stick it out. We really did. But it was at this point that I was so tired I could barely stand. Heather looked at my face and sent me home. She totally took charge and told me I was too tired and that I needed to go to bed! She was right of couse, as per usual. So we went back to Pop and I got a Dole Whip/vanilla swirl and Kathy got a Mickey Bar for dinner. Yep, ice cream for dinner….hey we’re at Disney World! I was in bed very shortly after, I don’t think I even heard Kathy get out of the shower!

Miles: 10.4So stinking cold!!!! When our alarm went off each morning I had the same reaction! I had to figure out what day it was and how far I had to run!!
And this day was much warmer than the 5k and 10k mornings!!!! I don’t think there was any wind! That made all the difference!!! I absolutely loved meeting everyone before the race!!! It was so much fun!!! And really kind of pepped me up. I had a sore throat and drainage during the night and didn’t feel great leading into the half. But once I started running, all of that went away!!!! It was so awesome to see you guys on Main Street!! Best hug!! It gave me the boost to keep on moving!!! That finished day 3 of warm ups in prep for my marathon!!!! I LOVE that you guys rode the monorail a couple times to warm up! So smart!!! And your button just made my heart so happy!! I truly felt honored and special!!! I think that was one of the best tasting lunches ever!! Well, until AFTER the marathon! I was bummed we missed riding Splash with you guys. We just couldn’t get moving fast enough. Kailey really loved spending the afternoon with all of us too! You guys were so done after we finished riding SSE!!! I totally had to tell you to go home and go to bed! But I LOVE your ice cream for dinner again!!!Staying on a Monorail to warm up….although I do love the idea of riding the Monorail, I just don’t think there’s much of a temperature change. I mean, it has been nine months, so it could’ve had operational heaters then, but…..
Oooo, back way out of Epcot sounds cool! Kind of jealous!
That makes me so sad that you couldn’t ride Splash together. Like, it’s a little ridiculous how sad I feel about it.
It seems so funny to think that Florida is always warm and sunny, but it really can get COLD there!! I’m so glad you guys took lots of things to keep you warm, and warming up on the monorail was a great idea!! It’s still just beyond awesome that you were there and got to see Heather and Ryan and all the other D-Cotters run! What an awesome experience for all of you!!
And for the record, I am 100% with you on ice cream for dinner!!
