So, I started doing some research yesterday on possible trips for my oldest DD’s graduation trip. She will be graduating next year, with her associates degree and her high school diploma. So it would be a family of 4, 3 adults and 1 child of 12.
WOW was it a real eye opener on how much any kind of travel costs anymore. A 1 week trip to DL and UN Hollywood? 10 Grand. 1 Week cruise on DCL, 8 grand. 1 week trip to Aulani flying coach, 11 Grand.
I guess that’s the bad part of traveling from one coast to the other. I have a spreadsheet if anyone is interested
April 28, 2017 at 8:12 am #24533I’m just curious, how much of that is airfare?
April 28, 2017 at 8:16 am #24536What are the dates? Timing seems to be everything. Our upcoming trip is costing about 25% more overall vs the original date I wanted in March
April 28, 2017 at 8:17 am #24538I will say desire to go to DL & Aulani is one of the few factors making me seriously consider DVC

One day we’ll be able to pull ourselves away from WDW long enough to enjoy those perks
April 28, 2017 at 8:28 am #24545If ( big big big ‘if ‘ ) we buy in, I’m thinking Grand Californian… kinda push us west

To LAX: I based it off of the Summer’s prices and added 5%: The cheapest was Southwest at the lowest fare: 2900$
To HNL: United cattle car rate and package deal: 10,774$What are the dates? Timing seems to be everything. Our upcoming trip is costing about 25% more overall vs the original date I wanted in March
Same as above. They are not booking that far out yet, but I did a cost +5% and +10% to try and get a feel for the amount needed.

I thought about that as well, but I just cant justify those costs to myself, let alone the boss
April 28, 2017 at 8:29 am #24548Shnikes! That is a lot :o
April 28, 2017 at 8:31 am #24550I’ll believe it. I think when we looked at doing WDW last year for a week (without using our DVC points) it was going to be around $6,000 for 5 days. That didn’t happen :p
April 28, 2017 at 8:31 am #24551Nope Nope Nope!
April 28, 2017 at 8:33 am #24552Ah, summer is the kicker. @10dedfish Do Allegiant Airlines fly from near you to LAX? People talk smack about them because they don’t understand how “budget” airlines work, but we’ve flown with them around 6 times and never had any issues. It’s saved us a ton of money! My husband and I both fly to Orlando for the price we’d pay for 1 person to fly there on United, and that includes a bunch of upcharges.
April 28, 2017 at 8:40 am #24553Whew! Now multiply that by the millions and millions of people who fly and vacation every year, forgetting about just Disney for the moment, and you can see why the travel industry is a multi-billion dollar a year business. Mind blowing figures.

I’m with you… But considering those two locations exclusively, if you figure a cash trip to each, the math starts to work.
I doubt I could sell it to my boss either. Perhaps if I sell all my worldly possessions to pay for the upfront costApril 28, 2017 at 9:55 am #24585This is exactly why I haven’t been to WDW. It’s SO MUCH money for 4 of us. And time off work and possibly missing school (cause I dont know if I want to do FL in the summer).
Also, just FYI-the Grand Cal out here is…..well expensive doesn’t cover it. Rooms “start at” $450 or so. :|
