@Jloosh78 – It’s cool, we won’t banish you for not liking Star Wars! I happened to be neutral to Star Wars until a few years ago! We signed up for the Star Wars Challenge at Disneyland (running the 10k Saturday and the 1/2 marathon on Sunday). My hubby liked Star Wars quite a bit, so the themed race got him excited to run. I had already been running Disney races for a couple of years. Well, before we ran the race, I figured I should finally watch all of the movies! I had only seen the “originals” and hadn’t watched the “new ones”. So I watched them in order and started to get more into Star Wars. Well, then they released Force Awakens, it really blew me away and I was super hooked! My sister has never seen a single Star Wars movie all the way through and has no desire to. But I still love her anyway!
January 6, 2017 at 10:31 am #5797I should mention when it comes to my friends who don’t like Star Wars, they have seen at least Episode IV: A New Hope. Some have seen more than that and say it’s a great series if you’re having trouble falling asleep
To them I say, “Nobody’s perfect.” But as for me and my house, we love Star Wars.
January 6, 2017 at 11:10 am #5803I have a confession, I’ve never seen a single Star Wars movie
*ducks and runs* :p
January 6, 2017 at 11:32 am #5813@Kcboston we can hang out at the bar while the star wars stuff is going on!
January 6, 2017 at 11:37 am #5814@kcboston – Don’t worry, we won’t throw you off the website. I’d encourage you to try watching Episode IV sometime anyway. At least then you can say you’ve seen it even if you weren’t interested in going any further.
January 6, 2017 at 11:39 am #5815Ok – I’ll jump in!
I don’t really think the Maelstrom was that amazing, and I’m really surprised how some people seem sincerely upset that it is gone. Like, really upset. As in someone shot their dog or something. I get the resistance to adding Frozen in its place, but I didn’t think Maelstrom is worth crying over. Ok – that’s my 2 cents!!
{ducks}
January 6, 2017 at 11:43 am #5817Nancy…I agree with you 100%, but I’ve been too afraid to say it until now!
January 6, 2017 at 11:59 am #5826RIght??!!!
January 6, 2017 at 12:06 pm #5828I think it’s just a Knee jerk reaction to change. And the overwhelming addition of the character themed attractions. I agree completely that Maelstrom was not the greatest attraction ever but it was original. Change is scary. Does anyone Remember the out cry from when Mr.Toads wild ride closed? In due time the outage will turn to acceptance.
January 6, 2017 at 12:14 pm #5831I’ll jump in, too. I agree with the turkey leg sentiments. They smell good to me, but I just know that there would be so much gristle and my hands would get all greasy. No thanks!
Another…the Mickey ice cream bars, or any other ice cream on a stick. I like to savor my snacks, and with those I feel like I have to rush through eating it before it melts and runs down the stick onto my hands.
January 6, 2017 at 12:26 pm #5832There were parts of Maelstrom that I really liked, but overall I thought it looked really poorly done…from the sets, to the animatronics, to the static polar bear. The best part about it was the thought of going backwards over the falls. I also always felt embarrassed to duck through the theater at the end as if to say “Love your country, but I really do not care to watch the Norway film again.” You kinda duck your head and walk quickly through the theater while trying not to make eye contact with the Norwegian cast members who are on theater duty.
January 6, 2017 at 12:32 pm #5834@jloosh78 drinks sounds like a solid plan to me!
@rocketEAR99 I do plan on watching them someday, at this point I figured I’d wait until Cammie was old enough and I could watch it with her. See it through her eyes a little, since I didn’t get to see it when I was young.
@nancyg and @cth0511 That was one of my original thoughts when I started the thread I pulled back and just went with the turkey leg, I’m glad you had the guts to put it out there!January 6, 2017 at 12:38 pm #5835I think with Maelstrom it was more about how out of place people think Frozen is in that pavilion as opposed to thinking it was the best ride ever and shouldn’t be touched. At least that’s where I’m coming from. It also had sentimental value to me because many aspects of my time in Norway were featured in that ride. But I appreciate that that’s just me. Not judging! Just trying to explain where some people may have been coming from in their outrage
@jloosh78 Yes I do remember that!January 6, 2017 at 12:43 pm #5836I also always felt embarrassed to duck through the theater at the end as if to say “Love your country, but I really do not care to watch the Norway film again.” You kinda duck your head and walk quickly through the theater while trying not to make eye contact with the Norwegian cast members who are on theater duty.
Nothing but love, but I have fastpasses for Test Track!
January 6, 2017 at 12:50 pm #5837@kcboston – that sounds like a great idea! I know I loved it when I was a kid and got old enough for my parents to let me watch it. I admit I probably would’ve been less impressed if I saw it for the first time today. But now I appreciate what they put together back in 1977.
@ABeach – I know what you mean about ducking your head and scooting through the theater. I felt awkward doing that too.In the nostalgic sense, I do miss Maelstrom since I grew up with it being there. I’m also a proponent of Epcot’s original intended purpose – to be both educational and entertaining. So I’m not a fan of removing the educational parts to make way for things solely based on Disney films and characters. I also thought Frozen was OK, but not the greatest thing ever. I thought Tangled was a far better movie. ALL of that said, I think the new Frozen ride is rather well done and I’ll be glad to enjoy it again and again in my future trips.
